Got this busted Sega in a lot from eBay. When I looked into the cartridge slot, I was disgusted to find that it was a VA1, but then I noticed some wires visible so I was curious. I opened it up, and... WTF is this mess!

There's an odd connector epoxy'd to the case right on the sega CD expansion slot. Wasn't able to remove it without breaking the case plastic. (Fortunately I've got spare Model 2 bottom chassis', but still...)

Yeah, I ripped all those flying wires out and resoldered that lifted pin. Strangely enough the console works fine after I resoldered some pins on the controller port.
All this said, I'm pretty sure the eBay seller wasn't responsible for this, just to clarify, so this isn't aimed at the seller. I'm willing to wager the seller simply got a number of consoles from other folks and resold them as untested/for parts.

Looks like a region mod, done really badly. Pin lifting when not necessary....

Yeah, definitely a region mod. Not even my very first attempt at that mod was that terrible. Why on earth would you lift that pin when you can just use a via? Makes me sad.
