Favorite SRPG battles

If you like SRPGs, what are some of your favorite battles?

A few of mine:

Shining Force CD - the awesome museum battle.

Shining Force II - the chess battle is pretty engaging if you defeat all of the army before eliminating the king.

Warsong - the first battle is a lotta fun if you stick around and defend the castle rather than slinking off like a craven coward (which is what the game wants you to do).

Warsong - the battle where you have to save Baynard while he is trapped in his castle.

Vandal Hearts - the battle where you have to avoid killing the possessed villagers - really a puzzle rather than a battle.

Brigandine - I always enjoy defending at Lidney - with even ragtag forces you can hold off fairly powerful enemies (usually the Esgares Empire) by using water based guerrilla tactics.

Good choices! There is a battle in Shining Force where you have to lead your party across a canyon, while avoiding the range of a laser cannon that has been set up on the other side by the Runefaust army. That is intense! There is a similar battle in Shining Force II where you have to avoid the range of these laser cannons that look like giant flowers. I agree that the battle in Vandal Hearts, where you must avoid killing the possessed villagers, was a real challenge and very intense. It's also very intense and daunting in one of the major battles in Suikoden II, when you face the full might of the truly evil Luca Blight.

I also liked the Khanos City battle and the prison arena battle in Vandal Hearts.

I wish Vandal Hearts II had had a better battle system - in a lot of ways VHII is a better game than the first one - but that battle system torpedoed it.

I can tell you what ISN'T my favourite SRPG battle, the fortress battle in Front Mission (SNES). I hate those damn cannons.

In Crystal Warriors on the Game Gear there is are a couple of awesome battles I just can't recall the locations. One is in a field, the other one goes on and on as you traverse the landscape. That game is beautiful.

Not that I've played a whole hell of a lot of these types of games, but I'd have also said the giant cannon in the original Shining Force.
