My Sonic 3 is full of complete saves. I deleted one and cleared the game.
Then I lock on to S&K there are a bunch more of complete saves.
Now I want to play S&K but my not-100% save from 3 hasn’t carried over. There’s one empty slot. I had to start a new game from scratch (i.e. playing through Sonic 3 again) that is saving fine. How does the save system in S&K3 work? How do I carry over my cleared Sonic 3 save to start directly on S&K?
S3&K uses its own independent save slots in the S3 cart. How exactly do the interactions work between two sides I'm not totally sure about, I only know completed S3 saves get carried on to S3&K side while S3 side is untouched.
S3 saves carry to S3&K, but if I recall correctly the S3&K saves will be corrupted (deleted) if you run S3 subsequently.
Nothing happens to S3&K saves when you do S3 alone.
Really? I tried once and all my s3&k saves were gone.
Never tried again, because i didn't want to risk..so maybe it was an isolated accident?
My saves don’t carry. My Sonic 3 saves are completely independent of my S&K saves. How do you carry them over?
The Sonic 3 save files are separate from the S3&K save files. When I plug Sonic 3 into my Mega Drive, it shows my old save files from that game, and when I plug S3&K into my Mega Drive it shows my old save files from that game. Both are stored separately, but don't ask me how it's done.
The Sonic 3 cartridge has 8KB for save memory but only 1KB ever gets used (I guess 8KB is the cheapest they could find that met the requirements). There's just way too much memory, no surprise S3 and S3K can store saves separately.
I think I remember reading that the Sonic 3 saves only carry over when you don't have any S3&K saves yet, but I wouldn't swear to it.

Because I wanted to listen to the Sonic 3 music when I played it.
are there that many differences? I mean, you can always everdrive Sonic 3 Complete which lets you choose between a myriad of those differences IIRC
IIRC, this is correct. First time you lock-on S3 to S&K it copies the save data from the S3 slots to the S&K slots.Quote:
