I know this system was niche and expensive in its heydey, but despite being sold for so long, where exactly did you have to go to find one for purchase, or the games? Especially regarding the last ones like SVC Chaos and KoF '01, where did you buy or order them? I don't exactly remember seeing them in stores as a kid in the 90's except used sellers where they cost a fortune.
I remember seeing one at Kay B Toys and other such places bitd. On the top shelves right next to the insanely priced items at the time like the Sega CDX. I remember only seeing one of each. Like even the 3DO. Too pricey. I went right for a model 2 Genesis with Sonic 2 for $119.99. Nov 17 1994.
I remember seeing the Neo Geo AES and CD at Walden Software in the mall around 94-95 for about a year then I never saw any again locally after that.
Given the sheer price of the machine, and the propensity for bootleg cartridges, it's probably worth coughing up the costs for the NeoSD rather than paying out the nose for... well, almost any of the classic titles. :daze:
EDIT: Changed the emote, clarified with the era of titles - New Neo Geos games are stuff you should absolutely pay for and not pirate!

Both Software Etc and Babbages sold them when they were new. It was behind the register of course. Man that was an interesting time, Genesis, TG-16, Lynx, rumors the SNES. I always remember the guy at Software Etc telling me they had a contest to see who could sell the most Neo-Geos in a month and I recall him saying the winning store managed to sell 2. I still wonder wonder who bought that stuff back then.
Only ever saw the AES in imports shops inthe UK and the Neo Geo CD was mail order only, I never saw it in a retal shop in the UK. I got both my Neo CD units via my import shop that I've been using since the days of Dream Machines: Its now called http://videogameimports.com/
I still remember one kid at school bragging about having a Neo Geo AES. He had a birthday party at his house once, and I was so looking forward to seeing the Neo Geo. There wasn't one. His brother said he was lying. So disappointed.
Hah! We've all had such a pathological liar in our class when we where young. we just didn't know what pathological liars were though. I also had a friend in elementary school lying through his teeth all the time and me actually believing him most of the time as the concept of lying like that didn't hit on me until much later.Quote:

My family mail ordered half of our Intellivision games and the catalog we ordered our last game from was already carrying NES games.
I think Software Etc sold them at some point. I know they for sure sold Neo Geo pockets. Local place called Game Peddler even sold a WonderSwan back in the 90s.
The Nintendo Switch, by the way, does seem to be getting some quite good emulated copies of the games on the eShop. And thankfully, not at $200 a game either. :)Quote:

yeah bought quite a few on the thing abd the best part they are al discounted because of the reward points. Not Neo Geo but also have the 40th Ann collection later this year.
