PC gaming is a hassle and don't know how people prefer it.

Don't patronize. I described legit issues. It's not me problem FFS. Many of those games are legit fucked. I didn't cause games to say invalid graphics card when it's valid. I didn't make Binary Domain have fucked controls. First person stuff is fine on a keyboard but not a TPS. PC isn't a master race. Most stuff runs fine but when there is problems it's a pain in the ass.Hey how is that Evil Within Port on PC when it launched and Arkum City when it launched? Must be the users issue and not the game huh?

I'm a console gamer first and foremost, but I also love strategy games and RTS titles which are few and far between on consoles, usually because of the complexity of said genre's in-game controls/options not lending themselves well to a simple game controller. So when I want to play some classic Age of Empires II or Civ V, I simply fire up my laptop.

I think I've already replied to this, but anyways. My current board supports DTS UltraPC II aand DTS connect. I don't know how any of that translates to gaming, but I do no that it's using a Realtek codec to accomplish this. It's not even real sound hardware, and that's why I use the sound card instead.

I also have 2 older 1TB WD black caviar drives in a Raid 1 setup as well with most of the other games and video editing..etc residing on those. Just had to replace both of those recently when one of them started to fail. Luckily I caught it before complete failure so I was able to keep all my data.

Anyway, PC gaming I felt was more interesting and more of a true hobby in the DOS era when we did have to tinker with them more often. Now...using my computer at home or playing a game on it isn't quite as interesting. That is why I was so excited when I found DosBOX and finally got me an MT-32 and my sound canvas modules. Took me a bit back to that era making it all work and playing some old school Sierra adventures...

Just curious, what motherboard is that?

I ask, because I've heard people saying that they couldn't get their 4790K past 4.4Ghz. I often wondered if it has to do with the poor quality of their motherboard and its ability to deliver clean voltage. I've seen motherboard reviews where one board just couldn't deliver stable overclocks while another could push the CPU to the limits. I've used Asus on my 2500K (P8-Z68 Pro) and with my 4790K (Z87-WS) and got wonderful overclocks with low voltages on both chips. I've had 2 different i7-4790k CPUs (I lost the 1st one by pairing high voltage RAM), and even though my second i7 was one that someone RMA'd back to Intel. I was able to get both 4790K CPUs to 4.7Ghz with less than 1.32 volts. I do have one core that hits 79c under full load, even though I'm using a Corsair H110 water cooler.


I'm seriously thinking about putting a 2600k in my 2500k rig. It's still a good CPU and can be found for under $130 on ebay. Maybe you can find a good deal on a 3770k.

I was playing Fallout 3: GOTY (on the couch) on PC. I got a physical copy for like $5 from a Half-Price-Books. The game ran with Windows LIVE and was working fine for a really long time, and then Windows 10 happened. I had nearly completed everything in the game, when MS decided to do an update that pushed your LIVE account off of the PC and replaced it with the windows store. My game saves got wiped and the only way to play the game is to get rid of the Windows store and install LIVE again. The same thing happened with Arkam Asylum and Halo.

No. I had a shit HP Pavillion with a 2Ghz Celeron. I could run Halo on it though.

500 Gigs is nothing, more so for anyone who's a serious PC gamer. Even on the PS4 and XBox One a 1 TB Harddrive fills up so quickly these days and PC games always tend to have a bigger install demands. So I just use my SSD for Windows and that alone can take up a Huge chuck.

^ I dunno, I'm one of those odd ducks that can get by on 120GB for general purpose use.
I use a 320GB drive as a spool for video recordings though. (Mechanical drives are okay for spooling video, and may help SSDs last longer when used heavily for that purpose.)

You sure missed the point. I was pointing out that my secondary rig has small 500GB HDDs that will have quicker seeks times than a 1TB HDD. They are still really slow compared to an SSD. My main rig has a 1TB HDD that I don't use for gaming, because the load times are atrocious. I use the 2.25TB storage space of several SSDs, that are divided between different groups like Blizzard, Origin, Uplay and Steam. C, F, G and H are all SSDs.

Next gen better have 3TB minimum HDD. Gears 4 on PC is 130GB download. As we know that's not even the biggest. Knowing me I will need twice that since I will own like 60+ games for whatever console or consoles I buy.

Consoles are pretty much DRMed PCs anymore. I totally get why one wouldn't want to waste the evening trying to get a game to work with PCs. I guess, I'm just used to it. It's not about "Master Race". It's the affordability and having a huge library of games (on steam, please don't ever go away). I'm really against paying for a monthly fee for online play too.

The funny thing is a lot of newer games I like, don't require a super computer, so I don't really see the point of getting a new console to play, Minecraft, rocket league, shovel night, pinball arcade, cuphead and whatever else. One cool thing is when I do upgrade a lot of my games will upgrade too.

PCs have been a pain in the ass for far too long. Just because I know how to rangle Windows into doing what I want doesn't mean I want to. Windows hasn't changed for more than 10 years now. 10 is running on the old Vista core with a few band-aids here and there, as well as a bunch of no entry signs. I would be very happy with a modern OS that's efficient, stable, and isn't burdened with 20 years of application support...

In the mid 2000s Apple was really on a roll for making usable computers, and Microsoft copied wholesale (remember Windows 98 Find?), but now that's all gone to hell too.

If you love problems so much why not switch to Linux, or if you want never-ending problems, x86 UNIX Solaris with OpenWindows. OpenWindows in particular was an unbelievable mess of the most bizarre design choices.

I use Windows 10, because I want to have access to DX12. I kind of regret that I updated the living room PC to Windows 10. Windows 7 did everything I needed and the updates were pretty much transparent.

Idk, man. Nowadays it seems like console gaming has become just as much of a pain as PC. It seems like every time I turn on the xbox there's an update that needs to load. If I want to play a new game, I have to wait for it to download a bunch of stuff even when I have the disc. And then if I havent played a game in more than a week, if I want to play it, it's practically a guarantee that there will be another update to download before I can start it. Don't see how this is any easier than dealing with PC.

The PS2 era was the last good console generation in my opinion. The graphics and gameplay haven't evolved much since that generation, and back then we didn't have to deal with all the crap we do now. I suppose today is a golden age for all that online internet gaming that everyone seems to love though.

Couldn't agree more. Remember when you could just switch a games console on and straightaway play a fucking game? The constant updates, patches and downloads that I'm bombarded with whenever I power up my PS4 is a joke.
