and it just reminded me of why I don't bother with current gen games anymore and have all my retro consoles connected to my HDTV. There's just no appeal in them to me anymore. I might perhaps pick up a Wii U or Switch someday primarily for the new Zelda game, but the Xbox One and PS4 I can do without. Plus my PC can easily handle the games from those two consoles anyway but I don't even play the ones I have installed on my PC from steam.
Anyone else have this "stuck in retro gaming" problem?
The problem is publishers being driven to run in pure profit mode by shareholders, and being driven in the opposite direction by certain activist cults. This results in games that aren't fun, so much as they are pretty (ymmv), and have traded depth for a series of labels and checkboxes. Most modern games are garbage compared to classic games because they aren't made to be fun to play, or even some magnum opus to keep the development team gainfully employed for as long as possible. The general degradation of video games is just a mirror of the degradation of every other aspect of civilization.
When I read comments and threads like this, I very much doubt one has even tried, much less owned the current consoles. That is not a personal attack, but when actually owns and takes to time to play and own a current console I very much doubt ones views will be that gaming is terrible.
Your loss. Way too many amazing games from the 7th and 8th gens to miss out on. To each his own? I suppose.

I'm with SciFi on this one. To each their own, there's a lot of great stuff to be played. I gotta get back to playing Red Dead Redemption just to get ready for the sequel when it comes out in October.
I own practically everything but the Xbone and the Switch. This includes multiple 3DOs, a Virtual Boy, TG16, Neo Geo AES, Atari 5200, and more. Had an Xbone for a while, but there was nothing to justify its purchase. I still have a PS4 that collects dust next to my collection of games. Nioh, Yakuza Zero, Yakuza Kiwami, Dark Souls 3, Dragon Quest Builders, DewM 2016, and I can't remember what else because I stopped playing it. With that pointless qualification out of the way, I reaffirm that most recent games are shit, and the few exceptions prove the rule.Quote:

The only aspect of modern console gaming (7th gen and beyond) that I think fucking sucks is the constant online updates that are required. When I turn my console on I want to load the game and play - not wait for some stupid fucking update! So I've recently just been cancelling the updates when I play on my 360 - solves the problem real quick.
Other than that I think the 360 rocks, I've been playing the fuck out of it lately, just about to polish off Halo 3 ODST. HALO FTW!
Not sure I'd call a console from 2005 modern anymore.
The 360 still had a bunch of great games, even if most of them are on PC. Prototype and Lost Planet come to mind. You won't play anything like those in retro consoles.
Day thought It takes a console some 1 to 2 years to get in its stride (Non-Nintendo) just to put into contrast Day One on the Mega Drive launch you had Super Thunder Blade and Space Harrier II, the Saturn it was just VF and crap. I'm not one for lists because that looks like fanboy stuff, but I will just say that you have missed out on some utter gems like theseQuote:

Those are just some small picks .. This gen has been quite incredible after a slow start. BTW wouldn't waste your time with the Switch and stick with a 3DS. And if you like Madden the one is the best since the 32bit days IMO. Tribon have really used the Frostbite engine to power a great looking 'and playing' Madden game
I definitely agree on Lost Planet. I've been playing LP:Extreme Condition -Colonies Edition and its a fun game. The controls are slightly different compared to other 3rd person games like GOW and ME but it hasn't prevented me from enjoying the game.Quote:

I was replying to the OP's general dissatisfaction of the Xbox 360 and with with "current gen/modern" in general and stating that I dislike the constant updates which have been prevalent since the introduction of the 360, but that there are a lot of good games on the system.
