I agree with the point being made about Axel's age. If you're going to age him you need to age everybody or it makes no sense.
Admittedly I haven't been paying much attention to this game, but did they ever say how much older are they? And growing a beard doesn't take many years…
Also let's not even get started on Blaze. She's supposed to be Asian and I know a bunch of Asian women who are in their 40s and could easily pass for their 30s or even 20s >.> (I know make up probably has a lot to do with it but I swear, they seem to be aging even slower these days)
Just saying, it's more plausible than it looks like :v
It's supposed to be set 10 years later, if I recall correctly.
That'd put the SOR1 characters in their late 30s at most in SOR4, right? So yeah, they shouldn't have aged much, they're going to be showing their age more by how they act than by actually looking old.
I'm not that pissed about the character being a Jax ripoff, considering how much SOR was influenced by other fighting games as well as manga. The UI was straight up copied from Final Fight, the characters started out with Street Fighter moves at first, you even have a Fist of the North Star boss in there too (Heart aka Big Ben). But I'm mildly annoyed that instead of bringing back Max, the most well known and favoured character in the entire series, they add this nobody. If they added Zan - which was what I expected from seeing the robot arm silhouette - then I'd say it was okay, because he was cool to play as.
Seems like they are going to milk the DLC money hard by adding a bunch of nobodies and then adding back the fan favourites later on. They already have 3 potential DLC characters, possibly more if they add Vicity or even Shiva.
On another note, do we have weapon based blitz or super attacks like in SOR3?
In another video it looks like that dashing isn't a continuous run, but instead a short dash forward depending on character (or maybe that was Adam only?). I like that. Always thought that that was the best way to make it balanced, so it doesn't turn the game into dash-jumpkick-turn around-repeat, which SOR3 sometimes devolved to.
If they jumped from their 20s to their 30s, then the design changes are plausible for Axel and Blaze. But Adam looks the same.
I read somewhere that the weapon specials were in, but I don't think they've ever been shown. I love Blaze's knife blitz, so I hope that's the case.
I think Adam's daughter still has a normal run, but that was the first time I've seen any other character do anything like a dash. I'd rather have the run for some/most/all characters, but a dash is definitely better than nothing, which is what we had before, so I'm good with that. It struck me as pretty lame to see a SOR sequel in the modern age where you're forced to slowly walk everywhere like the first two games for no apparent reason.
That part makes sense but if it's 10 years later I don't know if the outfits work. Why does Axel have a shirt tied around his waist? I would get rid of that, that's not how guys in their 30s dress, look at how SNK aged Terry Bogard for Garou: Mark of the Wolves, that's what I'd expect to see. Also Blaze is still wearing almost the same outfit as a decade ago? Women don't do that! Keep her in red since that's her color but her style should be something new.
Other than that I like the art style and won't complain at all if the final version looks like this, but if I wanted to show characters looking older I wouldn't have done it this way.
I have never given a single fuck about characters' backgrounds or stories in Beat em ups or fighting games. Arcade games like that it always seemed trivial. Beard or no beard. Tits with a dick or Axels great great great-granddaughter from the far future as a time traveler. Whatever, as long as it plays well and has a good OST.
Whut? That should've been Max!

Looks like a i-pad flash animation game. Still one can hope it plays better than it looks. Thankfully it will be on Gamepass.
When was the last time Apple supported flash? Maybe you mean vector graphics but even then, no. The other Wonderboy game Monster boy def had a vector graphics look to it but was a darn good game. Both were.
I'm surprised Warner Brother's hasn't sued them yet, there's gotta be a copyright somewhere that states that WB has copyrighted the whole "muscly black guy with 2 robotic arms which he uses to fight people with." gimmick.
I'm not even kidding, happened all the time in professional wrestling, wrestlers with too close a persona to their WWE created gimmick. hey yo
A black guy with robot arms is in a ton of games. Even as recent as Overwatch. Getting it in FF7..again. It's just a staple at this point. It's an anime trope and a video game trope.
Physical up for pre-order on LRG
Standard and CE for PS4 and Switch

I went for the CE for PS4.
I’m so glad this is a pre-order window instead of a limited number of units.
Everyone who wants one should be able to get one.
I wish that they would let folks know what the differences (if any) are between the versions before putting them up for sale. I tweeted at Lizardcube earlier today but so far they haven't responded.
Differences between the physical version packages?
Or are you concerned about the game itself?
I already liked it, but now it seems better than Streets Of Rage 3, classic characters, a good new story, original soundtrack, highlight for the song "Funky HQ" by the main composer Olivier Deriviere, my interest grew a few weeks after i saw a video of Streets Of Rage 3 with Olivier's music, of course it seems a little out of place, but incredibly fun.
I understand that a lot will be asked for all the pixel art, but now we are fine, we have the original pixel characters unlockable, which will increase the gameplay factor, excellent music, and a new story.
Of course and renewed gameplay.
The guys at the end played a great game, I hope they do the same with Golden Axe or another Sega classic.

Outstanding!
Art Style is still crap given that they just pasted the old sprites there without retouching the rest. Cool sprites but cheapo move at the same time.
Played it at the EGX in London last October; that was the PC version and it seemed far from complete in terms of gameplay at the time.
AI was buggy and very, very dull.
Ah yes, using old assets instead of improving the new assets. Perfect solution to everyone's concerns about the game looking sloppy. Of course you're not allowed to call this what it is.
So now they just add everything SOR Remake style, instead of properly reworking the characters we want to see? That's just cheap.
The sound effects still suck too, can't believe they are not putting more effort into fixing that. Even for the retro characters, they are randomly mixing effects, so I'm guessing this is a mockup because I'm hoping they wouldn't be so incompetent, especially after all those videos how they played the two games with the same controller to make sure the timings were right.

2 days until release.
The sound effects won't get fixed until then, won't they?
