No matter how much numerous was a family who bought a CDi or how many friends it had to show off, Neo Geo MVS whole purpose (well and any other arcade board for that matter) was that on the same board dozens, hundreds even thousands different persons would have played on it.
Back in the '90s Neo Geo MVS (and other arcade boards) weren't even confined to specific arcade avenues, they were in bars, laundries, restaurant chains geared toward kids, cinemas.
They were everywhere it was probable there were a good number of people that wanted to kill some time for a few coins.
To give some perspective on how much 1 million units is big for a single arcade board, Sega Model 2 sold about 130K boards by 1996 and by early 1998 the combined unit sold for Sega Model 2 + Sega Model 3 was about 200K.
But this is beside the point I made that is Neo Geo popularity and legacy should be gauged by its arcade business side, not the niche consoles (which were supposed to be niche that is they targeted the very few who really wanted to pay big bucks to play faithful arcade games at home in the early '90s).
Another point is that popularity isn't the only factor to determine if a company should give a go for a retro console.
The cost associated with the hardware to emulate the games and the easiness of emulate the games are important factors.
Also the return from the investment for which an investment can be considered worthy to be pursued vary between a small and cheap company like AtGames and big companies like Nintendo, Sony and Sega.
The last news about Sega taking care for the Mega Drive Mini signals that Sega think Mega Drive could guaranteed a good return.
Sega has yet to show any confidence on Saturn legacy though.
If Mega Drive Mini is a big success, it is more likely that Sega will continue to release Mega Drive Minis and then maybe trying a Master System Mini with the same exact hardware than to try a Saturn Mini IMO.
I wasn't asking for a principle.
I thought Black Tiger knew somewhat around what those retro consoles had sold and I was curious to know myself.
