After 28 years. Prima Games Guides are no more

They are shuttering.

It's not shocking that the need for them has been near non-existent for the past decade but it was still nice to get one, once in a while. Not even purposefully targeting collectors worked. Shame to see a certain era truly dead.

Most of the guides I bought of their's were poorly written, error filled tosh. Not really sad to see them go.

I’ve always preferred the guides by Brady, but I did like Prima’s hardbound guides for Fallout 4 and Mass Effect Andromeda.

Well, when you can watch youtube guides for games while putting the game itself in the background, on the game console itself, the demise of such a market is all but guaranteed.

In the age of the internet I'm amazed those guidebooks existed for as long as they did. They were very handy and good for a gamer to have back in the day, but utterly superfluous today. No suprise that they've gone the way of the dinosaurs.

Yeah their RPG books were actually quite nice - I really liked their Oblivion guide book.

Was just reading somebody on another site point out that printed guides are also hopelessly outdated now in the era of constant patches and DLC. With internet if somebody makes an updated guide you can easily access it, not so much if you need to ship over some physical book (only for it to get outdated again by the time it arrives). In other words, no matter the quality, a printed guide is just not going to do today.

On the other hand, artbooks and such are becoming more popular… they missed the chance on moving their focus to those instead.

I’ve always looked at them from a collector’s view. You get some cool art work of enemies and gear, along with some cool back stories. Guides started offering a digital guide (probably because of game updates) with the purchase of the physical copy.

I’ve always bought my guides used, or on clearance.

This is Brady's guide for Diablo III. They always have really nice artwork and page layouts.
