Knuckles Chaotix

I'm not a fan of this game. When I first got my 32X and a copy, I remember been in ore over the graphics and catchy music. Playing the game however, over time, shattered what I thought was a good game at first - I started to hate the bleeding thing. The level layouts, the random level selection, the horrid gameplay ring mechanic, the bosses, the numerous glitches. This game didn't ooze the quality I expected from a Sonic game (from back then!). It felt, half finished, like it had been rushed to market. And given the history of the 32X, I'm sure that's exactly what happened.

All those Genesis color hacks got me thinking, what would you guys change in Knuckles Chaotix to improve what it already has?

I wouldn't change that palette.

Would only put way more enemies and make the game more challenging. Maybe another mini-boss or two. Otherwise, nothing.

Geez... Talk about some nasty looking uninspired backgrounds and poorly designed tiles. And the color palettes are bloody awful.
This game really doesn't belong to the same spot of the classic Sonic series by any stretch of imagination.

I find the game's graphics and music the least of its problems. The gameplay is just terrible.

I don't get this game. I should watch some YouTube videos and give it another try, I do think it looks great.

I think this is one of those cases where people really want to and force themselves to like it, since it's the only Sonic game on the 32X and it's still exclusive to this day. Most people probably hype it up in their minds because it's likely the only one they've never really played. I know that's what happened with me. Honestly, I can still have some fun with it but I can't ignore all of its many flaws.

Yeah, I really don't think people would like this game nearly as much or at all if it wasn't related to Sonic and the Sega 32X. I feel a similar scenario happened with Pulseman, being that it's from Game Freak. The game was hyped up to be this amazing, top-tier Genesis side-scroller, but I found it above average and nothing more. Pulseman is definitely the better game between the two in my opinion, but it's a comparable case with being overly praised.

Let me put it this way: neither games are worthy of scoring a 9/10, if you ask me.

Seriously, that's pretty damn insulting, and it's sadly not the first time I've seen someone say such a thing about other people liking a game. I enjoyed Chaotix as a kid, have still enjoyed it in recent years, and I can guarantee that I'm not "forcing" myself to like it one bit. Maybe that did happen to you, but don't go projecting your experience onto everyone else who likes the game. I'll admit that Chaotix isn't for everyone, even Sonic fans at large, but I'll also admit that I have legit enjoyed games that many others disparage; I'm also a big fan of Unlimited SaGa, for example.

Even if I wasn't a fan of Chaotix, though, to see someone say what you did would annoy me all the same, because that's just downright horrible to say. Maybe there are people who are like that, but to just generalize the fans at large is dumb, almost coming off like the silly "Stop liking what I don't like!" phrase you sometimes see online.

Forcing is perhaps not the correct word he used, but we as humans definitely perceive things differently based on branding and imaging. There is nothing wrong with liking a game and I've said this before. We all have preferences and what not and enjoy things for the different values that we see in them. Totally normal and I have that with many games, but there is a difference between liking a game, and then not recognizing and admitting to all its (blatant) flaws. If Knuckles' Chaotix wasn't related to Sonic and the 32X, I very much doubt it would have been as well-received as it is. I hope you don't think that is offending, because it's not meant to be.

I agree with the review, mostly. I really hate the game because of the awful controls and shitty level layout. I like the palettes, some graphics and the bonus stages (except the second last one, which bugged me like crazy). The music is OK. After I finally beat all special stages, I rushed through the game to see the good ending and then shelfed it for good.
