Games with the best side missions?
Side missions seem to be hard for developers to do. So most the time it's hey go kill a thing. Go fetch me a thing. Escort someone in a tedious mission. Then some games get it right. Sometimes as fun if not more fun than the main goal. Sometimes it feels seamless. What are some of those games?
I won't list off a million games at first.
Tales of Vesperia.
While the flaw of this game is finding the side mission when you do they are fun and kinda feel like at times like it adds to the main goal and helps develop a character. I was honestly surprised. The sword dancer mission was fun.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
This one apes off Witcher 3 from what I am told. Seems like they did a great job. As mentioned it feels like genuine character development. You can even fall in love with a character for the rest of the game if you wish. Some have some good humor. It never felt like I was going way out of my way to do it. I sometimes forgot I was doing a side mission and treated them as the main goal.
Yakuza. The series.
Maybe the best series ever to have side missions. As we know Yakuza is a serious game series...erm at least when it comes to the main story. A lot of crime drama. Then we have the side missions. Kiryu has to help a man lose virginity. He might have to deliver a pizza to a girl looking for a Visa, not a Pizza. He may run into an entire Yakuza family who loves to dress as babies in diapers. This series has so many of them and always insanely silly but the only other series I know of that balanced out the silly with the seriousness so well is Metal Gear series. Yakuza series is the one serious when I anticipate a release I want to do the side missions more than anything. Yes I want to do the fake spiderman meme but with Kiryu. Yes, I want to help a child get porno. Yes, I want to wear a silly mascot costume to beat up hooligans!
