Pretty much this. The idea that people think this is a great thing are woefully uninformed. They're asking full retail pricing to play these games and yet one day when the service goes "poof", all that money you spent is gone. If this really is the full future of gaming, then count me out after this generation.
Yes whenever you hear "game streaming is the inevitable future", you gotta recognize that as dogma. Its not true. We can stay with physical media, theres no technical reason why the industry has to switch to game streaming. Companies are trying to shove it down our throats because its insanely good DRM.
Yes unfortunately I can only think of cynical reasons behind Stadia... Ideas like making profits without the traditional cost of manufacturing consoles.
Or a lack of permanent ownership of games, so everyone night need to subscribe, just to play the games that they "own." And so on.
I also can't imagine what benefits, to gamers, that anyone would really expect? Compared to all the modern consoles that everyone already owns? Like what could Stadia possibly do better than the current generation of home consoles? Hell every console is already hi-res 3D graphics. I don't know what else could really be added to even the home consoles.
That's actually a good question: What more could possibly be improved on the current gen consoles?
Do u guys think the current consoles will continue on, without replacement by a newer model, at some point?
Stadia promises 10 Teraflop performance but PS5 and Scarlett already sound better than that. That's before we get back into people's internet speeds and lag. PS5 will be sporting a Zen 2 CPU and looking to have a Navi 20 GPU. That's nuts!
Stadia. You pay $10 a month to have the service not the games themselves. You need to pay a full $60 on top of that for each game to have access to them. Then if you want to play Ubisoft games it's another $15 a month on top of it. Yes, a service within a service. lol what a joke.
It's hard to believe Google is charging that much considering they built their business on offering ad-supported services for free. Can you imagine if they had tried that with YouTube in the early days?
To Ecco's point I agree we are going to get to the point where most people aren't going to care about system specs. I think it will be like audio where you have some people who just have to buy the latest gear and everyone else who uses what they have until it breaks or some new standard comes along that isn't compatible with the older hardware. I don't see the console makers complaining either since they make all their money on software and accessories anyway.
I have just pre ordered one for Christmas.
Main point for me was to have a casual gaming session without the need to have a console ( i have a very minimal setup 75" TV and sonos bar/sub on wall )
I have been playing nvidia shield TV's version of this service , despite the limited library its seem ok.. I hope google will do it better.
Actually I was really asking you guys, what improvements are even possible on future consoles, now that everything is currently hi-res, but yeah I guess the companies can always push the resolution slightly higher, and do lame improvements like that lol.
I wonder if the current gen consoles have basically maxed-out the tech aspect, though.
The thing everyone is all hyped up on is Ray Tracing. It makes the lighting look much better and real reflections rather than faking it. To me that's nice and all but I think...and? Sure games have been faking it all these years with reflections and real-time lighting. Like I remember seeing Yuri's reflection in the castle floors in Tales of Vesperia a 360 era game. Luigi's Mansion 3 seems to have great lighting despite the hardware. So sure lighting will be better but that's just not a huge game-changing thing to me as a player. I'm sure I will think "that nice-looking" but then forget it as I play the game. Nice for devs.
I agree most AAA games have a samey feel to them but there is so much out there not some "cinematic" game or FPS. PS4 and Switch are so loaded with great niche games from Japan or smaller western studios. Then we have a lot of creativity from indies. Sure there is a lot of 8-bit platformers but also stuff with a unique look like Abzu, Sayonara Wild Hearts, Cuphead and much much more. I talk about Nex Machina a lot because it's legit an old school arcade game with a modern touch and it's truly great. Ruiner is another. Astebreed is one of the best games I ever played. Then we are getting a sequel to old shooters like Raiden, Aleste, Cotton, R-Type and more. Games from other series. Assault Suit Leynos remake. Sonic Mania. Wonderboy. Guilty Gear. Metal Max Devil May Cry 5. Better examples if I look at a list but still point it there is a lot.
Not always old school game tributes either. Some are just interesting on their own. Astral Chain. Brothers a Tales of Two Sons. Persona 5. Earth's Dawn. Astebreed. Matterfall. Ruiner. Daemon X Machina. Fist of the North Star Lost Paradise. Hell, any of the Yakuza games (esp Y0) Nier Automata. BOTW. RiME. Tokyo Xanadu. Ys. Xenoblade. Child of Light. Octopath Traveler. The Wonderful 101.
I could go on and on. The point is there is a lot of creative stuff that maybe doesn't use the best technical graphics and some are the higher end but they excel as being unique games in the sea of the same shit but also remain great games. You know what else. You are right stadia has pretty much none of this. Maybe just maybe one or two of these end up on Stadia but overall it just offers the same AAA shit you can get elsewhere. Nothing that unique or interesting on it.
They aren’t even close to maxing out anything. They can’t even do PC quality 4K@ 60fps without drastically cutting down AF, AA and texture quality. I have a $500 graphics card in my PC and it would definitely struggle with 4K above 60 fps without serious cuts to the image quality.
Don't know which one you are talking about. There is over a hundred things listed. Either way could have been when Google kept things in beta for years then when they take it out of beta is considered official. Even tho Gmail came out in 2004 it was considered beta until 2010.
