Not today no, but in 10 years time 4K/60 fps will be easy. What will be the next step after that? You could render in 8k, but unless you have an IMAX at home there is no practical benefit. I'm sure console makers will still come up with new features but in terms of visual quality we are headed for a point of diminishing returns.Quote:

But like I said, this is just me. I've been sitting out of the last few generations of gaming for the most part.
I haven't been gaming much at all lately, but exploring a couple music albums that I just found, which are tributes to Ecco the Dolphin.
In my small bit of actual gaming... I'm still the most excited about 16-bit hand-drawn artwork / pixel-drawn artwork. I just played thru Road Runner: Desert Demolition, which looks & sounds great, with loops apparently based on Sonic 2. I also just played a nice hack of Sonic 2 (called "Sonic Boom.")
But I see ads all the time, for modern games, and I'm amazed how bored I always am. Like Game of Thrones ads, the Battleship games, Tank games, Warcraft games... and the Stadia ads for unremarkable looking shooters.
yawn.
I know I sound like a grouchy old man, but nothing seems to have any artistic value, anymore.
That said, I agree that u named a few games that I know about, which are great, like Cuphead, etc.
.........but yeah I can't imagine how different hi-res consoles can possibly improve in their resolution / graphics in meaningful ways, sorry.
(I guess now I should start looking for a retirement home lol.)

Btw I hope my posts don’t sound wrong. I wasn’t being obnoxious when I was asking what modern games people are playing... especially that ppl were mentioning their powerful home set-up... it’s natural to wonder what exactly it’s used for.
I’ve barely played any 3D games at all, so it’s kind of unimaginable to me, to compare different degrees of hi-resolution...
Especially that all these modern games look so boring in their ads...
Actually now that I’m thinking about it, one modern series that I could imagine actually benefitting from incremental increases in hi-res, is the God of War series: great gameplay & graphics, and the mythological creatures could always use higher res, & more powerful graphics, I guess lol.
You know what's funny is that my current go to PC game is from 2009. It's Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion. It's a space strategy game, where you build a fleet, take over planets and fight for control over a star system wih diplomacy and battles. I've also been playing around with the remasters of the original Star Craft, and I'm currently trying to finish up the Brood War expansion.Quote:

That's it. People who want the cutting edge experience will go with expensive gaming PCs. For consoles I think we are going to hit a point where graphics are "good enough" for most and just offering more power isn't going to be the main selling point.Quote:

Nice choices. The space sims look awesome, and I can appreciate advanced graphics for simulating space! I've also played through Starflight on Genesis, so I should be able to get into that...
Forza graphics do look amazing...
Far Cry 5 looks like it has ugly colors splashed around, lol. Pink flowers etc. I'm sure the gameplay is fun though.
Metro looks like it's rocking photo-realism... which is impressive (though it doesn't make me want to play it, lol).

That's why I don't think it will work. The people willing to spend lots of money on gaming and a fast Internet connection already have hardware. If Google aimed a little lower, offer something that's ad supported and the games don't depend on a constant lag-free connection that would be more interesting.Quote:
