Has anyone gotten this to work on Linux? I want to know what you can expect when trying to run this on a Linux OS. The software, mostly. I don't have the device but it's the most affordable Genesis ROM dumper I can think of at the moment.

I hooked mine up to see if it was recognized, but never needed to dump or burn anything so far. Besides krikzz's c# app, there's a Go one at https://github.com/grantek/fkmd
It's not a particularly complex thing, emulates a serial port, so writing custom software would be a breeze.
I don't have the hardware, but I just downloaded the software and tried it. It ran and opened up fine, but I can't really test it without owning the hardware that goes with it.
This is on Fedora 29 with wine-4.5 (Staging).
If it didn't work for you, then a virtual machine almost certainly would. I use a Windows 7 VM to deal with certain things like my GPS or other hardware that requires specific manufactuer's software. You just have to pass through the USB device to the VM.
