Well I recall that this thread was about peoples opinion on their favorite guitarists and not telling them about who they should or shouldn't like. I guess I must have miss read.
Uh, I was only replying to your response...Quote:

I don't understand how me expressing a negative opinion of Metallica -- a rather mild, vague expression at that -- constitutes a put down. Unless you have some personal involvement with Metallica, I honestly don't understand what your issue is.Quote:

Honesty i don't give a shit. I just think it lame to tell someone a band they like is lame after they just said they like them thats all.

Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) is a damn good guitarrist...
Jazz guitar players such as Charlie Christian, Django Reinhardt and Wes Montgomery get very little recognition for some of the greatest players ever to grace the instrument.
Even thought there have been some really great guitar players mentioned in this thread as I thought it would be... it's mostly just rock and metal players. But anyhoo here are some of my favourite players (no order).
Hank Marvin
Django Reinhardt
Robert Johnson
Steve Vai
Wes Montgomery
Jari Mäenpää
I have more I love but maybe I'll list those later.
I'd like to amend my previous list and add Brian May from Queen and Mike Einziger from Incubus. Brian May is the reason I play guitar in the first place, and after re-listening to "Light Grenades" I remembered just how rad Mike Einziger can be.
My favorite guitarists all write most of the music for some of my favorite bands and I appreciate their solo "styles". Even though I mainly only like the earlier work of a couple of them.
