In all honesty, the Sega CD makes perfect sense and that thing completely justified itself with some pretty amazing games.
When you have a full-fledged 32-bit system a year away from full release, why would you want to over-extend your advertising and manufacturing resources by attempting to support yet another expensive add-on?
Sega should have ceased support of all it's 16 bit add-on's and the Genesis as soon as the Saturn hit the shelves. Games like Vectorman, Ristar and Comix Zone probably would have done very well on the Saturn...
