No, SoR1 should have used it though.

Three players?! Just had my mind blown!
The problem is, most enthusiasts here would probably be struggling to find two other people interested in playing the game with them regularly enough to make it worthwhile trying to implement a three player mode. That's my situation anyway.
Also, the game's massive sprites would surely be prohibitive in trying to do that (despite rumours it might push double the sprites of SOR3 or whatever, I'll believe that when I see it). If the game had been designed around SOR1 size sprites then that might be a different story.
I'm no Saturn fan(I'm sure the console and games are good, but duck fiscs), but Guardian Heroes is 6 player(as is the Fire Pro Wrestling game, and let's not forget the 10 player Bomberman, and 2 12 player homebrews http://www.racketboy.com/retro/satur...mes-best-multi) so I seriously doubt it's much of an issue for the Saturn.
If gameplay/difficulty is affected (less enemies on screen), I am not really interested in a 3 player mode. Incorporating these kind of features could ruin the enjoyment of the game.
..WM said 3 players at the same time for pjy?
Nah ... Just giving my thoughts on such an idea.
I prefer a strong & solid gameplay with "only" a 2Player mode than a bad gameplay with a 3Player mode.

If you read the last XGoldenboyX message here, we can conclude that Project Y is in an (intensive) internal BETA phase,
not yet in a External Beta Test phase. But more the game will be polished & improved before External Beta, easier it will be for the next steps.
