Hate the secrecy. If I'd not put hundreds of pounds into investing and was instead just awaiting a time to purchase then I'd feel differently.

I don't mind the game being delayed. In fact, I would hope Watermelon would prioritize the game being fully completed and polished to the nth degree over being released earlier.
I do mind Fonzie waiting until the last damn second to announce any such delays. It's unprofessional. He's a big boy, and grown-ass men don't put off unpleasant news until the last possible moment.

my thoughtsQuote:
I'm probably in the minority here, but I like the way WM do their business.
But other than that I like the secrecy - since the dawn of the internet all the excitement, anticipation and surprise has been sucked out of gaming; we all know everything there is to know about a game months before its release. Fair play to WM for making Paprium retro in every sense.
I don't understand why everyone is so angry. If you hate the way they work so much why did you order the game? Be patient, maybe it will be delayed, maybe it won't be. Who cares?
I've "invested" when it was first announced years ago, and I'm not going anywhere. It is a niche product and as far as I know they are the only company that produces full blown releases for retro-consoles. Some hiccups are to be expected, there is no infrastructure for such a project. It isn't a Steam game with protocols in place. They literally have to manufacture a game (with custom tech, which means they can't just use premade PCBs and just burn a rom), mold the carts and the shells etc. If they've done it once they can do it again.
Sure, if they miss the target date by year with no explanation I'd be angry too, but come on, don't discourage projects like this.
TL;DR - Don't pre-order a game if you can't handle the wait. Be adults.
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Black_Tiger again.
They're about 3 years off the target date to my calculation

And Project X is about 5 years off the target date based on this emailQuote:
We still have issues getting our pixel art & sprites done, that's monopolizing everyone's attention for many months now! We are now thinking about a Q1 2014 release, which is long past the initial deadline, however, you, will be rewarded for your support and patience as we keep adding coolness to our investor's editions.

The last month, something extremely big and exciting happened here at WaterMelon HQ. Next year, Project X may be released! Keep an extra pair of pants ready!
Project Y is also making great progress. Tools and development hardware is being made, and the concepts YOU have submitted at the boards have been compiled. A concept artist is at hard work and we have a plot.
I always find it amazing that anyone can defend WM. It costs them so little to have the bare minimal amount of transparency, and it would drive such an insane amount of support and attention. It only serves the game... If people truly want to see WM succeed, they should encourage business practices that will drive the kind of attention necessary for that.
What is interesting is to to see, over time, how this is souring everyone. WM is doing themselves not favors.
What's project X, can anyone give the skinny?
I didn't say it wasn't annoying, but we all knew what we were getting into. If I remember correctly it was the same way with Pier Solar (reprints at least). The most common complaint now is "I knew it will be like this with WM." There was nothing stopping us from waiting till after the release to buy the game, but we wanted the early editions. I dunno, this isn't a competitive market. You either settle for WM to make your new-retro-games or you don't get them at all. Many people didn't really like Pier Solar, myself included, but I can't deny it had a quality you couldn't get with homebrew games. I can only speak for myself but I prefer the wait to an unfinished product, it isn't like you could download a patch later, they only have one chance at this.
I don't know what their day to day is, and how much work is being done if any, but I agreed to trust them blindly when I've invested in a game that was only a project's name at the time.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that releases of such games is too few and far between for us to now the amount of work and issues involved, there is a reason almost no one does it. Sure, you get some Dreamcast games once in a while, but even I know does are way less complicated to make and manufacture.
Coffee Crisis was not very impressive at all. I think that the Papi Commando release was pretty well handled, and that was WM publishing, so at least we know they can get the product out when it's ready to go. That and Sasha's game released without a hitch (unless the fiasco with Sasha Darko was more complex than I understood...)
So hopefully, things are still on track. That being said, this is not looking good being so close to release date.
Coffee Crisis wasn't in the same weight class (no disrespect, I quite like it), and Tanglewood, while promising, isn't out yet.
