When it works it's fantastic, case in point Batman & Robin.

This is what I think too. A delay from any small dev company is excusable if updates are published, this has bdcome the major issue. Tanglewood etc gets no flak because of the updates so investors are understandably happy. We'd be happy with a delay 'cause we'd be informed of it.
I can't argue on technical issues as to whether this game is overly ambitious, but I don't think it's a bad thing if it is; why not go the whole hog and aim high? That's a cool endeavour no? Being kept in the dark is the uncool thing here, as said above.
I find Growl port a bit more impressive in performance than SoR1, SoR1 is just 30 fps + slowdowns at times
I'm such a big fan of the SOR series that I jumped on this Paprium bandwagon without hesitation. I hope it wasn't the wrong decision. I'm fine with waiting, and I want to support this type of revival of older systems. Communication is key though. Silence spouts speculation. Just my two cents.
However, this is my first time delving into pre-paying for a development game. This thread has me concerned that I will lose the money I put into the pre-order, but is this something I should really be concerned about?
Hard to say. I've only dealt with WM one other time and that was when I pre-ordered Pier Solar for the Genesis many years back. I can't recall the exact amount of time, but I believe I pre-ordered it like 2 or 3 years before I actually received it. Could have been longer. I do know I was working at one job with a company...got laid off....took 7 months to find work again...and then not too long around Christmas a year or two after that...Pier Solar appeared in my mailbox.
The point is that I had essentially forgotten about pre-ordering the game, and wasn't keeping up with the progress on it at the time. But it did eventually show up and I've a feeling it might be the same way with Paprium. In a nutshell I'm not defending how WM does business, but I did get Pier Solar eventually and I'm assuming I will eventually see Paprium show up in my mailbox as well.
. . . Whenever they ask for that delivery address. . .
This is the part I hate about this. There is so much drama during the buildup, the purchase/delivery process should at least be enjoyable. I don't know how WM expects to keep customers/fans if their dev process is so mind-bogglingly frustrating. I want this game, but I can't really stand WM as a company. It just kinda makes the experience less enjoyable.
If you feel that way you should really wait until the game is released, then buy it. If pre-orders go out of stock i'm sure they'll reprint the game, otherwise they are throwing away money.
I'm not saying Watermelon will take your money and scam you, but if they did they wouldn't be the first company to take peoples money and either not deliver a game, or deliver a shitty, broken game.
Based on their past history, your money should be safe, but you are in for a wait. Chances are in your favor that you will receive a polished looking and professionally packaged product. As for the game itself, that is a different story. On a technical level, Pier Solar was great, but as a game, it was flawed.
I'm curious how you feel Pier Solar was flawed? I've only played just a little bit of the game to test it when I first got it. I know that on my model 1 Sega CD the damn music tracks skip all over the place but play fine in my CDX and I remember them playing fine on my X'eye when I had that. I think I've heard of other bugs or something in the game itself but again haven't played it enough to know or find them. So yeah, I'm curious to know so that perhaps when I do start to play it again, with FM only since my model 1 CD doesn't like it, I know what to avoid or expect?
I actually meant more in terms of the games design as well as the pacing of the story. I haven't actually played my cartridge copy since I had beaten the PSN version by the time that I received it. I'm sure there have to be some members here who have experienced it with the Sega CD who may have insight on any technical issues.
From what I have read, WM cleaned up some of the issues regarding Pier Solar on the PSN release. I've only played the Genesis version, which was flawed. The leveling system is messed up, the town layouts are REALLY bad, and the encounter rate is brutal. Its one of the prettiest RPGs on the system, and the chip music is pretty sweet too. But it is not fun to play.
