If you're talking about Paprium then you'll most likely have time to save for it 20x over before it's released.

Just did that, thanks for the recommendation. Hopefully someone gets back to me though supposedly communication is lacking on their side.
I heard about the lengthy development time. You could be right, I may end up saving that much before the game gets released.
I put my money down on it a long time ago, but as long as it's delivered I can wait. Any time this year I'd be happy but any longer and I might start thinking about that money.
If Paprium comes out this year with Tanglewood and XenoCrisis being right nearby as well, I doubt it will get as much press/praise considering the other projects look very very good as well. The bar is (rightly so) being raised for the WM team to produce something that really is unique and worth a buyer's interest/funds.
The closest it has in competition on its genre though is Coffee Crisis, so I kind of doubt that... Will probably happen like Pier Solar which was also delayed for years and then when it was released it was still praised all over.
That's kind of a topic though, so far there isn't much homebrew that steps over each other. There are several genres which are still underrepresented or outright absent in homebrew (at least decent homebrew) e.g. racing. There are still a lot of gaps to cover before we can speak about actual competition.
'Competition' is a taboo subject in a community so small, I (and I know other devs) have been exceptionally careful not to tread on each others' toes and make sure the genres of games being made are spread out - both to keep it friendly, and to make sure a wide range of titles make it to the system. I guess if (when?) a whole host of other devs jump aboard we can start making more games in these genres.
Everybody wants to make the next Streets of Rage, but we haven't, because WM are giving it a go and we want them to succeed. Coffee Crisis was the closest thing to WM's project but it still carefully kept its distance.
It's in everybody's best interests that PAPRIUM hits headlines, and makes WM enough cash to keep making more games, 'cause it will attract more developers to make Mega Drive titles.
Indeed. We do have other things in development, but even the beat 'em up is more on the humor line.
Well, I didn't mean it in an all out bloodbath, I just think it's nice that with so many projects coming out/in work that means people are really going to be giving it their 'A' game to make something they are proud of and is unique. The buyers in turn may be more critical with their dollars and not just buy everything (though I normally purchase homebrews to support if I can).
I think the community is too small to have high competition. On a side note from Paprium I'm chuffed to announce that Luis from WM is now working with me to produce some games :)
The idea of Paprium even being mentioned among other games that are in production but have so much more to show, in a much shorter time frame, is funny. I want Paprium to be successful, but not because I care about WM. I hope the game does well so that Luis and the guys that worked on Paprium have something they are happy about that gets into a lot of players hands, and for other devs to take the Megadrive into consideration as a viable platform, but I really don't care if I never see WM make a game again. This whole experience has been a total grind. I don't really like giving WM my money.
Hey folks, just wanted to let you know that tomorrow, January 20th at 9PM GMT / 4PM EST I'll be streaming some Genesis games with Luis Martins, the art director behind Paprium. You'll be free to post your questions and comments about the game on a real live chat. https://gaming.youtube.com/c/st1ka/live
That would be cool to watch, I'm working - grrrr.
