I wish I could buy the gems of people who want refund now
My only comment is I don't think that blog's case about the screenshots being mockups necessarily holds up. When I first saw a lot of the game's shots it was pretty obvious there were filters put over them to give it this glared look, almost as if being put up against neon lighting. I always took it to just be a stylistic choice to make the screenshots fit in with the whole neo-cyberpunk aura of the game. A PR choice to appeal to people, basically. While I can't definitely say they aren't mockups, I don't see any proof that they are, either.
I really don't think the project is fake like the blog wants to tell you. Not that that validates the current situation regardless.
Yes, as stated by someone else already, I grabbed those straight from the trailer. I intentionally tried to get shots that hadn't been capped yet.
This blog is really amusing to read LOL... The guy who wrote it obviously knows nothing about image format or how they work. PNG is a lossless format, therefore you can blow it up without distortion. JPG on the other hand is compressed, so when you blow it up you get distortion. The only difference between the Tanglewood shots and Paprium is that the Tanglewood ones were capped straight from an emulator and released in their original PNG format (because ROM builds of the game have been released, I capped screen shots myself for my interview with Matt). Paprium's shots were released as JPGs and therefore aren't lossless. For all we know they were originally PNG's but were saved as JPG's for the press release to save space. It's a really silly comparison and shows how much that guy is grasping at straws.
Yeah, honestly the more I look at that blog the more cringy it feels. Someone clearly enjoyed all the bashing going on in here and jumped on the bandwagon to have a little fun. What's funny is I'm sure the amount of new info to post is going to dwindle to nothing. At most just a couple posts summarizing people's posts here and taking quotes from those with personal experience working with Fonzie, not getting paid, etc.. I mean, if we want to talk about screenshots that MGF have shown in the past that clearly have filters for effect, check out the Project N shots.

Clearly just trying to hark back to the screenshots taken off of a TV that we saw in print magazines in the early 90's. Not really much in the way of proof that there is no game.
But anyway, I decided to read more through this topic more and it hurts to see how many people I knew that were wronged. I tried giving the benefit of the doubt before, which ended up with me being accused of being an apologist by Barone :p But I rarely show my face here much anymore and when I do, it's usually to just respond to things that got everyone talking. So take that for what you will.
Since everyone's sharing their Fonzie stories I may as well give mine, but it's nothing exciting or juicy haha. I was originally in charge of the JP translation, which ultimately met an untimely death due to over-ambition on both sides. I was pretty naive with my own schedule and capabilities. My own personal interactions with Fonzie weren't anything bad, though. But the comments about him being too overly ambitious aren't far off, what with Pier Solar and the attempt to accommodate for all languages. He wasn't even familiar with Japanese but was responsible for the font, which resulted in a font set that I kept giving advice for, but ultimately there's still a few characters in the final product that still don't look right at all, especially the Hiragana e (え). That was pretty much a nightmare to try dealing with since we only corresponded over email and I was the only one that knew Japanese intimately enough to be able to tell how some characters just didn't look right. I also helped translate a letter for a certain well-known composer of the era to do the game's ending track, which as I recall the request was that it be a tune that makes people cry as they relish in the nostalgia of playing their old Genesis again or something like that. I personally felt that may have come off a little too strong for a very first email which resulted in him never getting back, but who knows :v
Some guy's wife from the Digital Press forums was hired on once the translation was scrapped and I couldn't commit due to real life getting in the way, but for some reason he still wanted the menu's and items to be in Japanese, I guess just to not completely alienate JP players that want a little help getting through the game. With his preference for trying to treat things as if we're in the 90's era, I'm surprised he tried to still help them since us English speakers surely never got that sort of accommodation from any devs back in the day >_>. But I can't really fault his intentions. The work of the Digital Press guy's wife though was, to be frank, a total joke. He showed me a draft of what she had done and she clearly didn't know English well enough since there was lots of nonsense translations, so I offered to help again anyway. Truth be told it's been so long I can't even remember how much JP is in the final product at this point! Maybe someone can enlighten me. But there never should have been a Japanese edition to begin with IMO, since there were no native speakers fluent in English on hand to give quality control, so it was all a risk. I can only hope the other translations fared better since they were, as far as I recall, also handed off to amateurs as myself.
For my time Fonzie was kind enough to still send me a free copy of the game, which I still do this day have never played :D But I certainly appreciated that he felt I was owed anything. So I guess that may be why I've felt the need to defend him just a bit whenever things got too rough in here. I considered investing in Paprium back when it first started and throughout, but all these delays held me back and it's looking like it makes no difference now. Well, I did originally sign up at the beginning and got I think 50 free gems or something? But I have zero clue what those are worth and if it entitles me to anything.
Sorry for the wall of text, just reminiscing a bit. I felt pretty special printing out the NDA back then before getting the game's script and eventually also doing beta testing. It was a fun experience being involved, as I'm sure it was for many others who now aren't exactly on good terms with him. It's just a shame he hasn't kept up appearances for the company since many people's trust seems to be gone at this point.
About the translation, Bramsworth, are you actually talking about Paprium or Pier Solar?
Because I preordered the japanese version, but I gave for granted only the package would have japanese language.
I don't mind really, i can manage beatemup japanese.
He is talking Pier Solar. We originally promised English, German, French, Spanish, Portugese and Japanese.
When we failed to get Bramsworth's translation proofread we settled on just Japanese menus.

Listened to the whole audio yesterday and made my mind again : I'm sure it's gonna be released at some point and be pretty dope.
I want to say that's funny, but it's really sad and I feel like I know where you are coming from. I have a boss at work who picks people out of a crowd and makes you enemy number one until she gets her way and you are fired. For whatever reason, I made it onto her shit list a couple of times. I feel like myself and one other person are the only 2 in the last year and a half that actually didn't get fired and ended up on her good side some how. I guess when you are screwed over by lack of resources and thrown to the wolves and still product the best numbers between all of hte shifts she couldn't really do anything about it.
I see tokay mentioned on the MGF forums that he's putting something out on Thursday if Fonzie doesn't appear. What involvement did you have with the game anyway, tokay?
I'll be really surprised if hints at possible leaks of some sort don't finally bring Fonzie out. Else who knows, maybe something really did happen to him in China and no one knows how bad it is...
I did very little things for WM. I helped them like I help whenever/whomever I can. I signed a NDA but really have nothing to reveal.
What I mentioned here and on MGF, is that I will take action from Thursday onwards. I will share output with you may there'd be any in due time.
[edit] And I insist I am not threatening anyone. Fonzie could be dead that no one would know!
That's a good shout actually.
I love how every excuse possible is mentioned prior holding him accountable.
Sometimes I have the feeling we're talking about a child and not an adult.
It's not like he was forced to go to China or anything. All this mess is a consequence of his own decisions.
And the issue didn't begin now. Again, we're approaching 6 years of development. There was plenty of time for him to have all sorts of troubles and still release something.
I do not see any attempt to release him from his responsibility in the last pages of this thread.
What are you referring to exactly?
Could you tell us what the statut of your refund request is?
I remember you initiated one around two weeks ago.
Hi!, I just wanted to let you know that I got a full refund from WM. That kind of makes me sad, since that means I may never get to play Paprium (since I bet copies will be hard and very expensive to get) but it is what it is. It also makes me sad because in the time it took them to make the refund, they could have written some notes about how the game is doing and this could have been avoided :(
