Project N has revealed it's name. It's Orpheus. Why no name from Project Y?
I think they asked for suggestions around the voting time and a number of people wanted the name to stay project y. Don't know if that's the case, but I thought that was going to be the end of it.
hmm I am not for sure what to think about the name
Is it still possible to potentially back Project N? I've been scanning the Project Site up and down, but I cannot find an option to buy GEMS anywhere...
(I've backed Project Y last May btw, can't wait for it to see the light of day).
The graphics look amazing but I can't help but think "Bare Knuckle hack". I hope there is enough to differentiate the game. I would love to see a game like this made for the Mega-CD, just as BK 2&3 should have been... *grumble grumble*
We have composed a lot of music already, over 30 tracks for sure... Actually closer to 50 if you include smaller themes like Stage Clear, Game Over, High score Etc.
Some songs may be cut for the final release, quality over quantity. If I believe some music doesn't fit a certain stage and can't be used elsewhere. Then it won't be used.
Of course I don't want any stages to repeat music either. If that means I need to compose more music then so be it.
It is very impressive and It is comforting that you (and Watermelon's crew) want a soundtrack which fits well from start to end even for transition/interlude screens.
So are you already working on a BETA version of Project Y to be able to choose the tracks stage by stage ?
Screenshots look awesome, nothing wrong with wearing your influences on your sleeve.
Will this be Megadrive exclusive?
Ok I'm gonna ask the question everyone wants to know but is afraid to ask... Did you stop Jredd from adding silly voice clips to the music?
Hahaha. Both myself and Trevin like to use samples from time to time although I only tend to use samples from classic Sega games like Jet Set Radio while Trevin has been known to sample his own voice which I know he did a lot of in Vector Nova.
For Project Y, at present there are very few voice samples in the music. Fonzie, I hear, did want vocal samples used but from my point of view. With so many music tracks to produce, rather than reusing voice samples which would grow tiresome. I wanted to use most of my sample memory for drum samples. A good variety of drums helps in the creation of the many different styles of music. Rather than just one snare or one kick etc. We have a fair few to choose from.
So rest assured the music won't be all FM drums with crazy voice clips over the top. I'll leave that part to the gameplay experience, where the fighters grunts and screams will have more of an impact. :-)
For myself music is integral to the gameplay. I'm one of those people who really gets into a groove when gaming and if the soundtrack is good then I'll be whupping bad guys and bopping my head.
As for the BETA, that's something I've not asked about to be honest. My main focus is to create music and now that most of the soundtrack is done. I need to optimise everything to make sure I make the most of every FM and PSG channel among other things. I then need prepare a potential final folder to hand in. Even though Tulio has all my songs already, many of these at the moment have inconsistent volume levels across different songs.
We started composing right at the beginning of development. I was given a list of in game areas and lots of concept art and early stage screens. This gave me a very good insight to how I wanted the game to sound.
Of course even then I had no actual gameplay to test some of the music on so I resorted to a test. I wanted to see how the music sounded in an actual game environment, so I used the music as a custom soundtrack on many different fighting games.
Funnily enough despite my intentions to make music sound different. One of the best fitting tracks was a rock song called Bone Crusher, played on Stage 1 of Streets Of Rage Remake. I recorded a video of this and sent it to Tulio as I was so impressed at the way the gameplay and sound worked so well together.
For those worried that Project Y will be a carbon copy of Streets Of Rage though, don't be. This soundtrack has had many different influences. We have music with little nods to the 80's and 90's. There is Hip-Hop, Jazz and of course Rock. Plus we have a couple of tracks influenced by the more modern sounding Dubstep scene which was a very fun challenge considering the restrictions of the YM2612.
so is it yet too late for investors to get another investor copy? please let me know before i grovel about
