I know you don't mean PS as in Playstation, do you?
P.S. consider this thread derailed.

I think gameplay wise, you should take as a reference guardian heroes on the saturn and code of princess (3ds) which is its unofficial sequel.
I guess I've never played an RPG-brawler but I do have faith in WM to make another great game. (Or maybe this is not technically WM; not sure.)
Anyways if it has RPG elements then I want to be able to beat up guys & steal their motorcycles, scooters, cars, etc.
Also I want to be able to beat up some guys and steal their girlfriends.
Maybe go in stores like restaurants & break everything, & take their cash register & food.
How about going in a strip club and beating everyone and taking food, beer, cash, plus finding new girlfriends with the strippers. Maybe u can power up with every new girlfriend u get!
Hey how about some guns, baseball bats, golf clubs, and other extra weapons besides the classic knife & pipe.
^Ha thanks; Just trying to imagine WTF to do in an RPG brawler, since I've never played the genre.
Disturbing? I don't know; The brawler genre itself is more disturbing then my extra ideas. lol (And from the brawlers I've played, they are not meant to be taken too seriously anyways.)
Also I want some visual over-stimulation, like Streets of Rage 2. You know, neon signs, lots of colors, & eye candy. Some blood-effects might be nice (subtle like in Shinobi III, not ridiculous like Mortal Kombat).
New weapons ideas: throwing beer bottles (full and also empty ones); Holding a broken bottle and slashing guys with it;
throwing exploding Malatov cocktails.
Maybe a couple rocks and bricks to pick up and throw sometimes.
Hey let's have some nice environmental damage; Let's smash windows on buildings, & smash cars up.
And not a lot of guns. Just a couple. For example, that cop in Final Fight CD, always seemed like u should be able to take his gun. Maybe just a pistol and also some kind of rapid-fire gun. They could even be special attacks -- whip out a machine gun and spray down the whole screen.
I like the environmental interactivity. I always wanted to throw an enemy onto a car hood and damage the car like in the bonus round in Final Fight. I also wouldn't mind being able to throw them threw the windshield into the car, and use the car doors as context sensitive weapons (think the drowning scene in Lethal Weapon 2).
Oh, and it would be a lot easier to take the fighting seriously if you sometimes had to run for strategic reasons. So there could be chase scenes, where you have to knock boxes and things on the ground behind you, these should probably be pure side scrolling platforming like segments. The goal of the chase strategically should be to single out an opponent, thin the herd, or just get them to have to file into a narrow corridor so they have to take you on one or two at a time.
Maybe it could be a one time scene where you fall into a nest where a knife gang lives, so everybody has knifes and you are unarmed. Otherwise having eight to twelve enemies on screen for any other segments and just fighting them all wouldn't make sense. If you had to run in the same scenario for some special scene and then just fight the same thugs any other time it'd break the verisimilitude.
The fighting mechanics is what I really want to discuss. It needs to be at a minimum as complex as Streets of Rage Remix, but I would prefer a Virtua Fighter quality move sets, counters and combos and that the enemy AI have the same. Shenmue's move upgrade system would be absolutely awesome, where the moves evolve and become more refined the more you use them. Maybe you could pick up moves from enemies too and then have to practice them on thugs to get better at them. . ... ... .. *DROOL*

I'm tired of RPGs being released and re-released. Thumbs up for finally coming up with an action title. Even though it has some RPG elements, that's okay.
I can't wait to hear more info on this game. As soon as I get the money I'm defiantly going to pre-order.
The deed has been done. I donated the rest of the money needed for the investor special. Now to do the hardest part: waiting.
Added a few new artworks in the first post.
I have now become an investor.
First game screen from Project Y released! Yes, this screen is actually in the game. It's near the beginning. You saw it here first, folks.
Looking forward to this. I skipped out on Pier Solar but brawlers are right up my alley.
Just made my 501 gem investment, can't wait!!!
Cool. I imagine after I see screens is when I'll take the plunge and pre-order with magical gems. As far as the game comparing to Streets of Rage, etc, yeah those comparisons will be unavoidable. I just hope they don't try to "out Streets of Rage Streets of Rage" but just make this game as good as possible as a stand-alone game. So while I imagine many might waste time saying it's inferior to Streets of Rage or Final Fight or Rival Turf as an excuse not to buy it, we are at least getting another beat em up and I highly doubt it's gonna be weak like, say, Growl.
CE's notes for 16-bit era bmups:
1. keep sprite sizes down to increase the playfield (maybe use 320x480i?) and shove more enemies on screen (bk3 sends enemies out of screen to give the impression of more enemies on screen at once)
2. use few basic enemies with different weapons to provide more variety with less work (ala TMNT)
3. borrow existing source material (ie. extract from Open Beats of Rage PAK files, or SORR) and rework/redraw what you need
4. prolong deadlines, 2013 isn't exactly a realistic goal. Maybe 12/2013, but I cannot imagine you getting this done earlier.
5. don't forget Axel and Blaze clones for players to identify with
I think players can identify with new original characters, clones aren't needed. It will just come off as a lazy rip-off.
I think you should just take everyone's money and run for the hills.
Make sure there are herms and gay guys you can beat up. Those are what make or break a fighting game for me. We don't want our girlfriends getting kidnapped by guys that are going to "do stuff" with them.
Thank you Joe, glad to hear your opinion, well hehe! just like your show, you always have an opinion. Go Sega! except you wont be able to steal me a copy of a game haha!
I agree, we will do our best to create an original game, after all the goal is to make another great game for our loved console the Sega Genesis. On that, he he he I do somewhat like Growl :P
Also thank you for everyone else's comments as well.
:)
Easter eggs, the game MUST have easter eggs! I love little stuff like this.
I liked the Swine Flu joke in Pier Solar, hopefully there's something similar to that in this beat em up. :)
All I can hope for is that the writing be at least as good as that of Pier Solar.
Well Zebbe's there so it will have some humor for sure (he's the one who put most of it in Pier Solar). But I don't think people play beat 'em ups for the story. By the way, will there be a novelization of this game? :)
I'm glad you like that joke Guntz, I wrote it during the crazy times of the swine flu :P. Something similar in Project Y should be possible, as there will be drugs in this game, however the overall humour level of Pier Solar will be harder to reach, since it is darker and will be less to interact with this time around.
A novelization? Why not! Who contacts the Road Avenger writer for us? :)
So, are they still doing like an investor edition or special edition or whatever of this game then?
Yeah, what makes you think we will not? Check this page: http://www.magicalgamefactory.com/en...ty_2/specials/
I was following the GEMS crap earlier but to be honest I wasn't even sure how it was going to turn out and didn't really want to mess around with it much. It actually looks like it will be made now so like Joe said I'm interested in pre-ordering/investoring a copy if there is progress being made.
