As long as there is at least one fighter who feels like a technical martial artist I will even be able to stomach anime art style.

Exactly how I picture Project Y by some of the more recent discussions. =P
edit: obviously not guys, I'm joking. Come on, I am not that kind of idiot.
Okay, I gotta agree with this. It's less that I want an exact Axel/Blaze clone but more like some sort of stereotypical hero character the player can identify with.
That's could because people couldn't justify buying Super Street Fighter 2 after buying Street Fighter 2: Special Champion Edition. That would be like you releasing this game as a 40 MEG and later releasing some kind of ultimate edition at the 64 MEG and wondering where all of the buyers are. Not even to mention that Super Street Fighter 2 was a port of the SNES version so all the characters had small sprites compared to Street Fighter 2: Special Champion Edition. Super Street Fighter 2 plays better although most cannot see why since they don't like fighters enough to see the subtle yet very important improvements.
SF2CE is as much of a port of the SNES version as SSF2 is. Both aren't actual ports I think. They just shared some resources like the character sprites and used the same resolution (for many good reasons, including saving valuable space on cartridge).
- but yeah, I agree with your point. SSF2 didn't sell as good as expected because people had already bought SF2CE.
Is there an general idea for a release for this yet?
The target is August of this year last I checked.
HA HA ha ... Sorry : ) No, what we have right now isnt like the China Turbo-16 game at all. It`s just that the charcaters we have right now are in General slightly bigger or bigger compared to the SOR ones.
What if I dare say they are as big if not slightly taller then some characters of Final Fight ARCADE : D
; )
Big sprites is a great thing. But in the 16 bits 90's era they meant slow/bad animated action in many side scrolling brawlers.
I am looking forward to watching a demo video of this project. Because reaching this ambitious goal would mean that
you are doing a better work that Capcom did on the Final Fight CD port. And I am curious and sceptical about this point.
It was Sega who ported Final Fight to Mega-CD, not Capcom.
What else has A-Wave done?

Sorry for this mistake. So my question is : do you think it is possible to do a better work than A-Wave did with Final Fight CD ? Or a technically better game than Bare Knuckles 3 ?
Is there a script or subtittles for the video above please ? Don't understand all the words from the guy with a big moustache. But it seems to be a great challenge for WaterMelon.
Fonzie, in the video above, says that he has all of those full size sprites/characters with full animation moving with very little CPU resource used. In other words, the basic engine for displaying full sized sprites, bigger than the Bare Knuckle games and on par with Final Fight Arcade, is ready and there is plenty of resources left for gameplay, collision detection, AI and whatever else.
Here is an interview with Luis, conceptual artist and character designer of Project Y:

:)
Thanks for the update Zebbe! I am going to save this article for tomorrow morning! I'll enjoy reading it as I sip my coffee and eat by toasted poppy seed bagel. I am so stoked to play this game! Yippy! :)
I just wish that they would fix their site so I can login on my android phone, I want to buy pier solar and the upcoming project y.
I've just added my 500 gems at last.

Why lieing about the size being second biggest game? SSF2 is this big.
It's not a lie if it shares the second place with that game.
Can't wait to see the final product it will be a treat no matter what
Project Y will have better sounding voices (if it has voice) than SSF2. I bet the memory will be used much more wisely because in all honesty I'm kind of blown away that SSF2 needs 40 MEGA POWER. Seems more like a 32 Meg game to me.
There shouldn't be any reason to worry about the voice sample quality. Even back in the day developers knew how to properly time their DAC code better than Capcom did with the Street Fighter games. The rest of the sample quality is probably due to limited cart space and bad compression schemes. None of these problems should be present for Watermelon.
I suspect that Super Street Fighter 2 on Genesis is only 40mbits because they had limited or no compression for the audio samples. So the SNES game could be 32mbit with "ADPCM" compression and the Genesis version needed more space for lower quality samples.
Name 10 games Sega themselves made besides 32 x VF from 1988 to 1996 that had clear voices come out of the Genesis. Golden Axe screams are cringe worthy, EC voices are garbled, and the list goes on.
Edit :
I'm sure Watermelon will do a great job as Pier Solar seemed great overall. Is Project Y going to be on both snes and genesis ? I don't think snes had many (or any ?) posthumous releases. Genesis seems to have a lot more.
Eternal Champion's voices are garbled? I guess TJ&E's voices have some break ups as well and they aren't a proper Sega game anyway, just a garage studio Sega promoted/funded. The Streets of Rage games have some breaks too, but that is Ancient's fault not Sega's, but still they sound fine. Actually, the Golden Axe games aren't as "laryngitis" like to me as the Street Fighter games are, and besides Mortal Kombat and WeaponLord destroyed Capcom's offerings in the sound department at least.
If the SNES were to get a version of Project Y it would run headlong into the same sprite size limitations that other SNES beat-em ups did, and thus be relatively limited in number of characters/objects on screen to the Genesis version. I would guess that WM would just do a Dreamcast and modern download version after the Genesis game.
Some of the voices on EC are crappy yes. Like I said, name 10 games (esp made by Sega themselves) I can tell my friend about to show the Genesis could perform clear voices. He likes SNES and he says 99% of Genesis voices from games sound like hissy crap. Is he correct ?
That's 10 ? But okay let's add that to "genesis clear voice list" list so I can show my friend the games (who likes both but says SNES hands down sound better) so I can let him hear. Let's add EC if you want though.
01) VF 32 x (voices from genesis, clear as hell)
02) Shinobi 3 ?
03) EC ?

Considering the 32X games that use the Genesis exclusively for clear samples your friend is not correct. Ten games made by Sega with "clear" samples off hand:
Space Harrier II
Altered Beast
Revenge of Shinobi
Strider
Crack Down
Eswat
Super Monaco GP
Some of these don't have to deal with proper timing because no FM is playing at the same time. Other than these I'd point to the sports talk games and TJ&E and Streets of Rage series particularly. For non-Sega games I'd look to Rolling Thunder 2, and the aforementioned Mortal Kombat games and WeaponLord for good sample quality with music playing.
Comix Zone, Lion King (It starts...), Alien Soldier, The Earthworm Jims, Altered Beast, the "SEEEEGAAAAAA" voice, Mega Turrican (Presented by: Data East), ESWAT (Mission Completed), Space Harrier (Get Readdy!), Task Force Harrier, Dynamite Headdy, Strider 2 (yeah.... seriously), Mortal Kombat 3, WeaponLord, etc...

I mentioned that with VF 32x.
Well if most of Genesis carts don't sound clear, he is correct that overall the SNES voices crap on Genesis voices then.Quote:
your friend is not correct.
Okay 7. I'll add these too that you mentioned basically.Quote:
Ten games made by Sega with "clear" samples off hand:
Space Harrier II
Altered Beast (Power up is very clear)
Revenge of Shinobi
Strider
Crack Down
Eswat
Super Monaco GP
NFL Sportstalk 94
TJ&E
Streets of Rage series particularly. (Not close to 32 x VF clear but okay I guess)
Rolling Thunder 2
Mortal Kombat
WeaponLord
I'm speaking strictly voices from characters but fair enough.Quote:
for good sample quality with music playing.
01 Space Harrier II
02 Altered Beast ("power up" is clear)
03 Revenge of Shinobi
04 Strider
05 Crack Down
06 Eswat
07 Super Monaco GP
08 NFL Sportstalk 94
09 TJ&E
10 Streets of Rage series particularly. (Not close to 32 x VF clear but it's okay "gwar for punch, screetch cat for girl scream")
11 Rolling Thunder 2
12 Mortal Kombat
13 WeaponLord
14 Shinobi 3
15 Whatever
And non of those are close to VF 32 x (genesis voice) clarity. I might have to agree with him.
And if PCM music counts:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPr4V1c2VqA
I said voices (character voices basically) over 5 times now. It's not a music comparison but a voice comparison. (Yeah I'm sure some Genesis music uses PCM voices over instrumentals but I'm not talking about that).
Add this:

and with FM music at the same time:

Virtua Racing 32X is, according to emulators, running all of its in game sound off of the Genesis. That is very impressive, probably the most impressive thing I have seen from the Genesis sound system.
