Yeah, I'm pretty sure Final Fight was Akiman... Bengus was on Final Fight 3... And Tetuso Hara was indeed on Muscle Buster. (my mentor designed that game.)

Yes, in the 80's and 90's, we only were able to watch screenshots (and sometimes with bad quality).
But development time for Project Y is reaching almost 3 years. So we had not enough official information about the content/packaging.
Maybe Fonzie is making a big news announcement with a lot features about the game and the work in progress...
And we know that the game won't be released this 2014 year (but a miracle could happen ^^).
I have the feeling that Project N was making Project Y delayed, strange...
The screenshot to development time ratio is completely unbalanced with project Y. Back when you were a kid you didn't get 4 screenshots over 3 years.
Fonz likes to work off the 90s model of game press. So my advice would be dig out your old sega mags, pick one game and do a summary of its progress from preview to review, screenshot totals, etc. See how it stacks up compared to project Y :D
Might require some effort but it's the easiest way to see if his model is presently flawed :) may I suggest SoR2 as the game for this process.
Guys I can understand when people complain about the lack of information / updates about the project , but some posts are offensive immaturity ...
totally unnecessary lol
Has there been any new info about this game? I find it interesting that a lack of updates to this thread essentially killed any and all existence of this game for me. Unless I saw stuff here I'd never hear anything about this game.
The winners of the art contest was announced a few weeks ago, and Fonzie mentioned starting proofreading soon. I believe it was for the manual. That's about all that has happened.
The Christmas upcoming and the guys do nothing, new images, music, videos, absolutelly anything in regards to SEGA 16 watermelon fans ...
Hello everyone! I'm new here, but have been following this thread for a long time, just never posted.
Well, Fonzie said there'll be a Christmas update. I don't think it's the trailer, but here's hoping great news are coming! After all, it's the end of this year and since Watermelon couldn't release the game yet, an important update should take place, at least.
It certainly would be nice to get any update at all. On the plus side, Cinemaware emailed me and told me preorders for It Came From the Dessert are going up in January, so at least someone's getting my money.
Hi all or to those interested.
Here is sample#2 for the game cover art! ; )

looks awesome!!
I think there should be something to show within the next few months. no joke, it seems like a window that would work based solely on how quiet the team has been. I imagine they're just busy building the game which I'm hoping will be at a point in development that's safe for showing in the next couple months.
This is pure speculation at this point. Luckily there's great stuff going on in the Genesis homebrew scene, like Pyron's color edits, It Came from the Desert, that shmup from Spain, Etc. Project Y will be in good company.
I wonder what Watermelon has learned from the marketing of Project Y.
Hi Luis:
Overall, I think that the image looks great. If you will allow me to dabble in a bit of contructive criticism, I will provide some feedback: If there is one minor thing that I would change, it would be the line/wrinkle just above the temple area. In reality, when one grimaces you won't find the muscle associated with the eyebrow react in this way. I've made a minor edit to the image to illustrate the change I would make. Other than that, the image looks great! Good use of shadow to define the face! Nice job! :D

So, that's the cover we've seen so far:

I was thinking someone would put the images together at some point.
looking good, I hope to see more in regards to the gameplay soon.
XGoldenboyX is really a fan of Yoshiaki Kawajiri's works.
Are you both saying that Luis' artwork is similar to Yoshiaki Kawajiri's? I don't quite see the similarity bewteen the two artists. In my humble opinion Kawajiri's style is much more dark, fluid, and gritty. In my opinion, Luis' artwork is quite different. You can check out his artwork for yourself via the following link:

Certainly influenced by it :) cyber city especially!
Hi,
Happy to see that people enjoy what they see here.
Hopefully I will have the ok to share with you the hole cover art.
It is true that im capable of simulating dif styles but what you see in my works is an evolution and diferent sources and artist influences in my works. And it is true as of late and artworks dating back to Chrono Trigger and the guy in red background holding a sword, ive been very inspired by Yoshiaki Kawajiri's anime and art.
So PJY does have some traits to this manga style.
And i really love 80's and 90's darker linework and anime style.
Todays anime in general is very fluffy, girly and lollypop collors big eyes..
Its ok but not my cup of tea.
:)
Hi Luis:
I had a feeling you would make an appearance after I posted your portfolio. Alot of artists often mimic the style of famous artists. In my opinion, your character design slightly ressembles some of the characters found in Yoshiaki Kawajiri's works. I'm sure you will agree tht Kawajiri uses alot more definition and detail in his work whereas your style is slightly minimalistic by comparison. It's not a bad thing per se. But your style is definitely different.
Agreed!
I try not to mimic, but instead learn linework's that I enjoy and inspire to my work. Also the line work details are more minimalistic due to my other anime influences, clean lines that define shape. My shading and lighting is what I actually use most to give volume ; )
thanks for the interest!
Looking forward to some sort of update soon, I'm itching to play this game.
If I'm lucky I forget about it for a few days :)
You think we'll see this before mid-year?
I'm not related to WM, so I guess Project Y won't be released before fall. Besides working on Projects Y & N, Fonzie is also taking care of the manufacturing of the cartridges and boxes for the projects plus PS Reprint and the PSHD discs for the Dreamcast. Both projects are still to be under open betatesting for the ones that applied for it, but first it needs to go through internal betatesting, and there's no clue whether they are already in this stage or not. So, due to the fact that one person is doing a lot of crucial work, it might yet take a while before we can get our hands on Project Y.
That is a bummer. Although I totally understand the nature of dev and their need to fulfill obligations for PS customers, it would be great to at least see some footage of the game... The absence of a solid release date is not really as alarming as the complete lack of tangible proof of the games existance as anything other than a collection of illustrations, screenshots, and tech demos.
Does Fonzie even need the rest of Watermelon? He should just give the rest of those leeches the boot.
Goldenboy I'm really am eager to see the full cover art! Looks great so far.
And I had a look through your portfolio that is linked in this thread and I see you did artwork for the comic Warlands! I have a bunch of them from many years ago. I totally got into it because of the artwork.

You rocked it :)
I am so excited for this game. I hope it moves and sounds as good as it looks.
I can confirm the music will blow you away! Definitely a Genesis does what nintendon't moment ;)
