Did you have a Plasma? Those sets had excellent colors and were very close to that of a CRT.

I was seriously thinking about getting this Samsung QLED for $600 from MicroCenter, but I told myself that I would regret not waiting another week and getting the OLED.

You really can't explain to someone about how cool a 120Hz display is for gaming. I highly recommend to anyone looking to get a 4K TV, to look into getting a 120 Hz model with Freesync. Dirt 5 supports 4K 120Hz on the PS5 and Series X and so do another 20 or so titles. You spend an extra $150 for a television that is more future proof than an old 60 Hz display.

Here's an example of the black levels of OLED. The stupid phone camera puts a little bit of bloom around the left side, but I assure you, it is pitch black.

It doesn't matter which you get, you'll going to see a massive jump. I think that's also why many people seem to look to rubbish this gen, when they're viewing content on a bogstandard TV or watching it on YouTube and I don't mean that in a condescending way either
4K was a huge jump in itself but top quality HDR/Dolby Vision and VRR are game changers. But sadly you need the tech to see and appreciate the difference.

Playing Daytona USA in HDR makes it look so bloody awesome for example

1080P to 4K is not the jump from 720P to 1080P. It feels minimal in comparison. It's nice but 720P to 1080P is a bigger jump. HDR is the real jump not the resolution.

Nah, you still have to use a lot of AA to cover up the jagged edges of the images at 1080p to make it look good. Once you hit 1440p on a desktop monitor, you can keep AA down to a minimum, because of the pixel density. 4K doesn't need AA at all, because the pixel density is much greater than 1440p and 1080p.

I needed a faster HDMI cable to get 4K/120Hz.

It is brilliant and why I've banged on about it for the last year. It's a massive jump on what the consoles of last gen could offer The PS5 doesn't support Freeesync and it makes a huge difference, which is why I don't like some of the DF coverage when counting frames and deep down DF know it. What is also massive is HDR and Dolby Vision. The jump is so huge it's like going from crappy RF to Scart. I also love how MS had added HDR support to BC games.

The CX is a awesome TV for gaming and movies

So many in this batch that I'm dying to play. Kena looks amazing, Death Stranding intrigues the hell out of me I wanna do some on-foot pack-peddle across the mountain ranges! Slime Rancher and Ark I've wanted to play for years. Demon Turf is a new "retro-ish" platformer. The world in Eternal Cylinder looks beautiful...

Scarlet Nexus is great. It is kinda tropey but the combat is great and gets better through the game. Even tho it's an RPG it kinda reminds me a little of Astral Chain from Platinum.

Star Ocean looked cool with it's action combat and somewhat realistic setting, I like how the dialog is real time and less cut scene, thought I should grab it. I'm starved for good single player mode FPS games for 8th gen, found Deathwing to be a compelling option, as well as Homefront... that game kind of floated by without much fanfare. But I didn't pay any mind to the last gen until about 2018/2019, so a lot of this stuff is totally new to me. Looks really good, I think. Was unsure about The Order, until I saw some gameplay the other day. Second Son was a no brainer. Another WRC, 4 more in the series to go... they really start to get more in depth as the series progressed under Kylotonn's development. Also, Crimes and Punishment. I've really gotten a craving for these mystery based adventures as of late. Several on my hit list right now.

I finally started messing around with the smart TV apps. It turns out that I don't need a 4K Roku at all. I was able to sign into Disney+ and watch The Book of Boba Fett in 4K with Dolby Vision, and I have my other services like Hulu and Youtube built right in as well.

Yeah, apparently some people think that a Roku is a must because all smart TV platforms other than that are inherently shit? Not in my experience. I actually quite like Web OS on my LG, and Tizen is not bad either. Can't speak for the Android based ones, but if I think if you've bought a smart TV in the past several years, you really don't need a Roku. What do they have, that others don't?

Roku is 100x's better than a firestick though. Web OS works well on my LG as well.

I kept getting HDMI handshake issues with the 2 (1080p) Roku units we have. I can understand why the one in the living room was having that issue, since the HDMI was connecting through a 5.1 receiver and back to the television, but the 40" display in the bedroom was only about 4 years old. It shouldn't have had any of those issues at all. I got rid of the cheap HDMI cable (replaced it with a high speed HDMI) that came with the bedroom Roku, which is now connected to our old 52" Samsung that got moved into there; it hasn't had any issues since.

Some more adventure / mystery puzzle solving titles that looked really intriguing. Titan Fall 2 for the acclaim that it's single player campaign gets. GS was having a buy 2 get 20%, so I grabbed Horizon 4 and Rally 2.0. Gotta love the SKU conversions there, they're becoming more commonplace since sales have fallen at their stores, evidently. Often times you get "pre-owned" games with unbroken factory seals. So they're essentially new copies, setting me back roughly $13 each in this instance.

Dirt Rally 2 is ace, but so hard. Titanfall single player mode is just fantastic. Its a shame EA gets so much hate, they can produce very good games.

It's not a shame EA get's hate. It's a shame EA can be so shitty. Yes TF2 Single player is amazing but EA sent it to die.

Anyway. All BK games sealed because $6 for all 3 I had to. So dumb yet hilarious. Another EDF game but this one takes a more serious tone which is funny given its EDF.

Because Afrika on PS3 is no longer an affordable title, we have Jambo Safari presented by none other than SEGA. Took me a while to discover that Lost in Blue even had a Wii version, can finally cross it off the list. It's a neat survival series forgotten by Konami. Stopped following X-G after the N64 days, but this one looks good. Ah, the good ole days of arcade racing.

Witcher 3 because it's Witcher 3. Rift Breaker is an interesting survival / tower defense / hack n slash hybrid. Sherlock and Invisible Hours, more mystery and puzzling solving, and then a game where you play as nature and a game where you slaughter nature. I'm thinking Away is more of a walking sim (possibly some combat), while Open Country is more of a man vs. nature themed survival game.

You guys are responsible for this Wii U kick that I'm on... well, not solely but Nintendo's announcement. Yeah I bought Hello Kitty, what of it? Ya gotta have it if you're a Wii U die hard. Jurassic World is the title that really opened my eyes to these Lego games, I've slept on them entirely up until this point. Procured that Tekken Tag Wii U as well. Betallion Wars II because why not? I've never played a single game in the series, but anything Nintendo will put their name on, I'll take a gamble with it. Lastly, Xbox One games for $6 a piece? In 2022!? I was contemplating forking over the full $20 just for Victor Vran alone, but ran across these incredible deals. What is this, 2009? I wish this was 2009.

yeah, the the FPS on PS5 isn't 60; none of the series did on console for the most part. it's not earth defense force levels of jank, but this series goes back over a decade now, so we kinda know what we're in for performance wise

i don't even know what "last gen gameplay" means, other than the most interesting overworld in an open world since...breath of the wild, i guess? no one's pretending shit. ive platted demons, dark 1 & bloodborne and this one's still really exceptional by most any metrics, but go off i guess

Yeah, I spent £55 quid on a game to troll:daze:. It's quite embarrassing that in 2022 FromSoftware can't hit a stable frame rate or fix its frame pacing issues even on a PC never mind next gen consoles.. I wouldn't say too much if the game was pushing next gen visuals, but the game looks worse, than Dark Souls 3 to me. It's clear like with Fallout 77, that From is asking too much from its engine with the move to a more open world game for the Dark Souls gameplay. The world might be massive, but so much of its empty windless, with PS2 like tree's in the distant background, poor LOD draw and grass that doesn't interact with the player's movements, poor water effects too.

I used to love Fromsoftware, their games and tech was amazing. but they seem to just be stuck in a corner making the same game they made decades ago and now where their tech can't keep up; Assassin's Creed Valhalla map is also massive and yet that game is visually so much more impressive and runs better, Far Cry 6 just scales up to the next gen so much better. . I will say that Fromsoftware amazing art direction is again in evidence here I just love the art used on the characters, they have such a cool look, very much like SNK art was always exceptional in their games.

Nor would I buy either, because they are shit and even SE and SEGA acknowledge their failure. Actually bought Armored Core games within the last couple of years and Metal Wolf Chaos. Since ER was released I've been having daily talks with my game dev friend. It's fun to deep dive into the game's narrative, world-building, and mechanics. It's not like there is another Souls game this generation that makes giant gameplay leaps. ER makes a bunch of smaller changes. When you say last-gen gameplay...it makes no sense. The only thing I can think of is many bosses and enemies have similar mechanics and tactics as previous Souls games. The Tree avatar bosses are very similar to the Asylum Demon. An early Jail fight boss is not that dissimilar to Artorias from DS1. The parry system seems to stem from DS1 as well. There are some small changes. It's not bad at all tho. Zelda games or Halo or any long-running series will have repeat familiarity. The thing is like any long-running successful good series. Small to large changes make familiar seem fresh. Maybe it feels too familiar to you but willing to bet most would disagree and feel it feels like a fresh approach to a familiar formula.

Actually, my buddy worked at R* North for years then went and made an indie game Treachery in Beatdown city, and then he worked on some licensed MLB games and now does freelance stuff. But ok TA. TA I don't hate From Soft. I'm just not a fan of the combat in their Souls games. It's not bad, just not what I go for but I appreciate the hell out of the lore and art, music, and such.
