It's not over-rated, because it did things that no other movies before it had done. ILM's special effects were groundbreaking and leaps & bounds ahead of anything before it, including that horrible puppet for Jaws. John Williams musical score was a masterpiece, as was his soundtrack for the OG Super Man. The story itself borrowed heavily from spiritual people like the monks, combined with the Samurai. The movie was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won 6. An over-rated movie does not get many accolades.

Movie viewing in the 70s was a whole lot different than it is now. There wasn't 3 or 4 chains owning (I did network conversion/pos work for Regal when they took over Hollywood and UA Theaters) everything around the country. My town had an independent theater and an independent drive in. The demand for the movie was so great, that the larger theaters could rotate it around their different theaters all year long. We didn't have to wait for Close Encounters, or The Wrath of Khan, but we had to wait well over a year to see Star Wars. The only kids that got to see it earlier, had their parents drive them 120 miles to Spokane Washington, to see it at the bigger theaters.

I picked up GNG from Half-Price Books for $50 without the manual. I got a really nice reproduction manual from Etsy for $20. A complete GNG usually goes for around $90 on ebay.

I'm not trying to insult you but are you aware of the difference between an opinion and fact? In other words, people thought the movie was "insert adjective here" which is subjective. Whether good or bad, it is still opinion. Over the years a great deal of crap has been nominated for and won many Academy Awards while other films didn't win as many as it deserved. While I wouldn't term Star Wars as crap, I think science fiction became much better on the big screen in 1980 and up (just look at the quality of Empire). John Williams can score anything and make it sound good but the movie still is what it is. Didn't Lucas do the '97 limited re-release to essentially fix it up?

Even out here it stayed fairly linear until the late 90's. General Cinemas was the theater showing the big releases but a smaller (Eric Theaters) competitor also showed new releases from New Line Cinemas, Dimension Films, Universal, etc.., The writing was on the wall once Cinemark was coming to town and with Regal down the road that was it. Hence why our local GCC pretty much shut down in the late 90's.

There isn't any denial of the hype surrounding the film. All one needed to do was look at the toys and other memorabilia and how the demand stayed fairly constant with Jedi even into the mid 80's. The 1984 and 1985 television movies didn't help though.

Finding a copy of a certain game with a good conditioned manual is getting ridiculous. What is even more ridiculous is how poorly owners treat the inserts.....when we still received inserts.

My point was that calling it over-rated probably has more to do with you not being there during its heyday, so its influence on you is totally different, considering how far movies (especially Sci-Fi) had evolved from then and how much the VCR/cable had changed the way people viewed movies being in a theater. Movie theaters may just up and die, with streaming being what it is today. We'll never see movies staying long in the theaters, ever again.

I'm not a big fan of the Beatles, per say, but I can understand why they were so revered in the 60s. I'll just say it's not my cup of tea, but I'd never call them over-rated. They had a massive influence on music, especially on a world-wide level, before the likes of MTV made people like Michael Jackson a global influence.

When I say over-rated, I'm not talking its effect on society. Christ almighty, I experienced the toys, trading cards, etc.., though I was always partial to what was available with Empire and beyond. The overall quality is what I look at. Part of me, a big part actually, wants to say the story was so cliche and done before in some format and I don't literally mean jedi's and space combat against the dark side. The story is familiar and it was set up in a traditional manner.

Maybe we should speak of the Beatles since it is awfully quiet here. Shockingly, I'd also use the term over-rated in which to describe the band but again, in terms of quality.

One of the biggest reasons why pictures once had a residency in the theaters compared with today is because the options of seeing those films elsewhere was well, not available or readily available. Now I doubt it happened but could you imagine if a film with great magnitude was available on HBO the day it came into the theater in say March 1981? It happens today.

I saw news somewhere that these contraptions were briefly in stock on walmart.com a week or so ago, and I decided to pull the trigger. Mostly, I've wanted to play the new Flight Simulator, and I was worried that my pc/gpu wouldn't be able to do it justice, and these new xboxes are only 450 or 500 (I forget exactly how much it was), so it seemed like the way to go. My PC works great for everything I need, I just don't bother with the latest AAA computer games on it.
Anyway, while I downloaded the 100gb FS game already, I'm holding off on playing it until my flight stick comes in the mail. I ordered the Thrustmaster Hati or something like that. Looked pretty good for the price (under 100), and has good reviews.

The new KoF is tons of fun by the way. I'm a sucker for fighters and anything SNK, so take that for what it's worth, but I think the game is great, and I've been playing a ton of it. It only works with the Series X, not the regular XB1 though, even though there's a PS4 version, so that's kind of weird.

Been a while since I posted an update on the wares. Recently, I was rounding out some titles missing from my Wii U collection and just about totally wrapped the physical library up. Then as of late, I've gotten back into this original Wii collecting phase, searching out the more odd and obscure.

Hawaii Shakedown is the last physical game released on the Wii U, and I only recently found out it was released in 2019. Transformers Dark Spark is an act/adv shooter, got it because it's a Wii U retail game that looks playable, Wheel of Fortune because it was $10 and worth about 5 times that currently, Force Awakens because the Lego games are all worthwhile regardless of franchise. Oh, and who doesn't want to be a turnip and avoid paying taxes?

Boom Blox Bash party is physics based puzzles series on the Wii, Rampage is classic building smashing with waggle, Castlevania Judgement is 1 on 1 fighter... yeah, why not? Mario & Sonic 2012, I still need the first two in the series of fun little sports mini-game compilations, and Mario Power Tennis with motion.

Here we have some interesting pickups. Until just recently, I'd never even heard of Yamaha Supercross as a fan and collector of all motocross themed games this was a curious find. Budget game for sure, but it does in fact have a fully fleshed out motocross driving system, so some attention to detail was paid. Deca Sports is a sports mini-game compilation by Hudson, it has motocross in it... go figure.

Wild West Shootout looks like a cheesy budget game, and it is, but it's a competent light-gun game and I'm looking to build up my Wii light-gun game collection. Nitro Bike is motocross with rockets on your bike, it's goofy but looks like an okay arcade racer. Monkey Ball Step & Roll, because one entry per year used to be the norm from SEGA, now it's like they've forgotten how to make new ones. Cocoto Kart is a surprisingly competent kart racer with good frame rate and controls for a third party Wii game. Pacific Liberator, old school arcade style fly around and blow shit up game. Geon Cube is arcade style game sort of like a PacMan, except you can use attacks and get power-ups. Recently discover Namco Museum Remix, always thought this was just the standard compilation, until I realize it's actual remake/re-imaginings of the arcade classics, Pac N Roll and Rally are on this too. Lastly, Hyper Fighters is an on-rails shoot-em-up, with cool music and solid enough shooting.

I personally bought the Mega Mix version of that Wii Namco compilation, mainly for Gaplus, Super Pac-Man, and Dig Dug II on a bigger screen than a PSP. I almost got Remix, till I realized Mega Mix had a bit more, though I tend to ignore the more modern takes on the older games included on the compilation, and I tend to dislike having to use the Nunchuk controller just to move Pac-Man to the game center, and to each arcade game inside of it. The old games do let you use the Classic Controller, but some games tend to control like ass with it, like Super Pac-Man, and Gaplus. Of course the only other way to get both of these games is on the PS1, the US Namco Museum Volume 2, but that costs far too much to buy, and the Japanese version lacks Super Pac-Man..

So in diving deeper into the library of Wii budget tier games, I've found another slew of titles that I'll swear are all very playable. A lot of puzzle games, shooting galleries, racing games, and monster truck themed games.

- Link's Crossbow Training is basically a tech demo for the Wii Zapper accessory which I would recommend actually using, if you want to play any shooting games on the Wii.
- Battle of the Bands it's a fine enough rhythm game with an emphasis on launching "attacks" against the opposing band when you do well.
- Rubik's World is a collection of brain teaser mini-games based on the Rubik's Cube. Some are pretty cool, others are a bit silly.
- Rooms the Main Building is a late Hudson Soft title that is a brain teasing puzzler, move pieces around and use different items to navigate through each puzzle / "room".
- Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is a collection of Olympic based sports mini-games and some bonus "dream events" which are various arcade style mini-games.
- Camaro Wild Ride a budget racer that plays like an N64 era sim-cade racing game, kind of awkward and janky but has a certain appeal. Chill soundtrack.
- Charger vs Challenger is a surprisingly good budget racer, that plays like an N64 arcade racer, with tight controls, a bit of customization and depth and decent soundtrack. Has an OG Cruis'n / Top Gear Rally feel to it.
- Speed is what you get when you cross Burnout with Virtua Racing. Really fast and frenetic, with spectacular over the top crashing. It's actually pretty good.
- Jeep Thrills reminded me a lot of Beetle Adventure Racing, but with Jeeps. Has a similar play feel, as well. A little janky, but challenging in a good way.
- Vertigo is like Monkey Ball or Marble Mania, you are a sphere navigating a series of narrow ledges. It's fun, good controls.

- Pirate Blast is a kid friendly shooting gallery. For everything it lacks in violence and edge, it makes up for in being a solid enough shooting gallery.
- Attack of the Movies 3D an on rails shooting gallery made from a cheesy compilation of movie spoofs. It's fine.
- Roogoo Twisted Towers is a brain teaser type puzzler, fit the pegs through the correct hole. Sounds simple, but can be addicting.
- Groovin' Blocks was a WiiWare game that got a retail release, it's a falling block puzzle game with a rhythm aspect.
- Rock Blast is basically inverted Bust-a-Move, but with some extra abilities you can use aside from just matching three.
- Monster 4x4 World Circuit is a truly underrated gem on the Wii. It plays almost like a kart racer with power ups, weapons, stunt combos for speed boosts. Really good one.
- Bigfoot King of Crush a really quite solid arcade racer, that features street racing with destructible environments. By the same dev as "Urban Assault", and quite similar.
- Monster 4x4 Stunt Racer a sequel to World Circuit, with more emphasis on vertical and wall riding, fun goofy arcade racing.
- Monster Trux Arenas a budget racer that's surprisingly decent with a more sim-cade approach to the driving physics and career mode.
- Monster Truck Mayhem another budget racer with some destructible environments, the driving seems a bit floaty and awkward but still controls pretty well. Cool soundtrack.
- Monster Jam Urban Assault a solidly made arcade racer, racing the streets with tons of destructibility.

Velocity 2X I wanted to pick this one up for years. It reminds me of a cross between Metroid and Sonic. Looks really good.
Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 with all the monster truck fever I've gotten out of the Wii library, this is probably the most fleshed out title in the sub-genre to date. Open world driving, events, collectibles, etc. By the studios behind MX vs ATV.

Here's the last few months of gaming stuff I've picked up. Off hand, I think everything was found locally except for the MVS Real Bout which I bought from a buddy on N-G. Just grabbed the Gamecube this week. My oldest moved out last year and took the Wii with her. Thing is, while I didn't own any Wii games, I did have a few GC games that I played on it, so it was cool to come across one for a fair price in the wild. I want to grab a few more games for it as well. And while I still see the consoles at shops on occasion, the prices are usually ridiculous, so this was a no brainer. As far as the games pictured, I've been playing PS1 the most as of late. I'm loving Rival Schools, a very unique Capcom fighter with tons of character. And I've also been playing Star Wars Dark Forces which plays like old school Doom, but in the SW universe, so it's right up my alley.

So I haven't bought a snes game in years. Pretty much retired from it after the outrages prices got out of hand for boxed games in around 2016 (still have my collection though) but something happen today. I called a retro game store asking if they had any CIB genesis games, they tell me they have Bloodlines, guy says its in pristine condition, head over there, dude did not mention the very noticeable sun fading in the front of the case, pass on it, decide to look around, I see boxed snes games, many of them missing manuals and inserts inside or straight up damage. Then I see 1 game that catches my attention, LEGEND. Ask if I can see inside of it. Dude not only did this one have everything it originally came with inside but it was in amazing condition. They were selling it for $200 but with my current store credit that I got from trading in stuff I found in goodwills for dirt cheap + the psp 1000 i brought in + the military discount. I only paid $33 for this.

I'm still kinda shock, NEVER did I expect to pick this up. Even when I was still collecting for snes back then, I could never find this game cib on ebay. This is only long overdue to add to the collection but better late then never, Good day!

The boxed Master System II cost $120 CAD (~$92 USD) from Kijiji. The console looks like new but it might not work.

When connected to my CRT it displays nothing and no sound. And there are no LEDs on the SMS II to show if it has power.
Looks like this was originally sold in Germany. Which I think is PAL territory and maybe that's why it won't work on my NTSC TV.


NHL '94 for the Sega CD cost $40 CAD (~$30 USD) with shipping from Kijiji. NHL '94 is the only Hockey game I played on the Genesis so I thought 'why not' have it for the Sega CD.


Battleship Gonora (aka Bio-Ship Paladin ) for the Japanese Mega Drive from a fellow retro gamer for $100 USD.


I spent $300 USD for Super Mario Bros, Zelda Link to the Past, Axelay and NES Ninja Gaiden III. None had their cartridge; just box and manuals.

Picked up a loose Players Choice Link to the Past cart for $40 CAD (~$30 USD) and I traded No Escape CIB (Genesis) for a loose cart for Axelay.

This is spring through first half of summer 2022 haul. A lot of racing games, shooters, a few RPGs, some odds and ends. Some PS3 staples I've neglected to grab for years; I'm just now getting around to the Ratchet and Clank series for the first time ever. Some more obscure Wii titles. I don't have a PS5 yet, but I'm actively looking for one and figured I might as well start building the physical library, as it's looking more and more like it will be my console of choice this gen.

I never realized Airforce Delta was such a rip-off of Ace Combat... but holy crap, even the sound effects and everything are lifted straight from it.
