About time. Kinda thought this would never happen as MS seems to hate the idea of physical games more than anyone the last decade. Glad to see them embrace this model.

Now this is what I call a goddamn controversy!
Okay LRG, I've never liked your products or business model very much, but I'll bite. How about... Halo Infinite? Yeah, put the whole damn game on the disc! Forza 5 as well. Basically, you might need to become the publishing arm of first-party studious at Microsoft, they've kinda forgotten how to transfer the data onto the disc.
What if it's Psychonauts 2? PS4 got a physical but Xbox didn't. Like that makes sense lol.
I wonder how this is going to work. I'd prefer them to release OG Xbox games to play on the OG Xbox, but there really aren't that many that are truly limited or hard to find.
One of my biggest gripes regarding all LRG type of operations, is the game choice. It's like they choose these very obscure, niche indie games to produce copies of. Who asked for most of them? Did anyone? Or is it all about how cheaply they can obtain permission to do so. I just don't like their choice of product. One glance at their storefront and it's all anime, Saturday morning cartoons (they even put out a game called Saturday Morning RPG I think), an occasional re-release of an old retro title, etc. I see a few racing games, which is cool.
But most of the type of games I come across then get disappointed that they're digital only, are of the caliber LRG and their cohorts will never touch. Like I came across an interesting game today that was listed on Best Buy's website, FPS, looks cool, DIGITAL DOWNLOAD ONLY. It's call Disintegration. LRG would never in a million years print something like this, I guess because it actually looks like a game that appeals to beyond just the niche market they're targeting, and maybe it actually costs something to get the permission? I'd like to have a physical version of this game, and a lot of other games like this, but who can you rely on to actually produce them?
How about they bring out Outrun 2 and Outrun 2006 for the OG. Those have become quite expensive, as of late. Also Conker Live and Reloaded.
They were bringing out classics like Metal Storm for the NES years ago and they are bringing back the KOTOR games. It just seems that it’s easier for them to bring current games that were on the digital front, to a physical format.
Wait, I did not pay attention to modern gaming, Halo of all things is not getting a physical release? Really?
Moving away to all-digital model makes sense, printing those discs costs soooo much money.
And if you remember they wanted to push the digital only crap with the first XBone already, and the controversy from that is part of why the PS4 rocketed away in sales with the Xbone simply not selling (that and because the PS4 was more powerful).
Apparently what comes on this disc is not capable of launching the game, you have to download quite a bit more to install it... and this is the CAMPAIGN. Either the game wasn't truly finished in time, or it's a strategy to sour people on buying physical versus GamePass. Then you have Forza Horizon 5... the entire campaign is NOT on the disc. As you progress, it downloads more. Just more fuckin' stupidity. Why even release a physical copy?
Warm. One reason is those smaller games have fewer updates. LRG likes to print the game when all updates can be put on the Disc/Cart. Plus yeah people like those indie games as they were a huge hit with Vita physical games and are now big with Switch/PS4 collectors. Most are not for me personally tho. I liked seeing Ruiner or Astebreed as more my style indie game. Not fake NES looking platformer number 8 million. I also like when they did the Genesis shooters. I eagerly await the Neo Geo Pocket Collection as comes with a big book about the system. I wish they did more Dreamcast like Play Asia does.
A BR disc only holds about 50GB of data. They sell it to make you feel warm and fuzzy about owning a physical copy, when in reality, it's just a pretty drink coaster. It's bad enough that they stopped giving us game manuals.
Here's my favorite drink coaster. I got the game from a used book store. I couldn't install it, because Juiced games went out of business shortly after releasing the game. Their servers went down with them.

To be honest, other than all of these Limited Run and similar type releases for the collector crowd, I'm not sure why the main console companies even bother with physical discs anymore. Most people nowadays just want to play the games, and prefer digital. Even with a physical disc, it just acts as a pass key or some such as the whole game has to be downloaded onto the system anyway. It's kind of pointless when you think about it.
I've got Juiced 2 on the 360, so I should be good. It's an offline game, as far as I know. I've no interest in going online with it. The problem is that now, the damn games are ALWAYS online because half the game is somehow being rendered from the server itself and not your console. Meaning no server, no game. Period. Even if it has a single player mode. If there's any reason to bitch about modern games, it's this one.
I don't think it's being rendered from the server, but I can say that I've encountered some strange glitches while playing Forza Horizon 5 on PC. I do have a feeling that those issues are happening when the server encounters bandwidth issues. I shouldn't be seeing stuttering and massive frame-rate drops with a PC using an i9-9900K and a 2080 Super. They are beyond capable of running the game @1440p/144hz.
