Games that everyone seems to love but you hate

What games get astoundingly high reviews, have huge fanbases, and everyone seems to love, yet you hate to death?

For me it's


Final Fantasy, hugely overrated weeaboo crap that makes my face hurt.

Half-Life 1, a simple, generic FPS with platforming - that sucked, the sequel is great though.

Mortal Kombat, possibly the worst game franchise I can think of thats still going.

Double Dragon.

God of War, it requires no skill at all, Ninja Gaiden did everything God of War did, but 50x better. It's only saving grace are the QTE moments, but those are done to death now.

World of Warcraft.

Assassin's Creed, Jade's game, lawl.

This is like opening a can of worms. Hmm I'll only name non genesis games. I would have to say Final Fantasy 3 and 7. I can't say I hate them but I honestly don't think they are anything special. Its a bit more obscure but I had similar feelings playing Dragon Warrior 3. It was not terrible but the story was almost non existent and this is in a Rpg. I had no reason to play it.

Halo is the first thing that springs to mind. A bog standard FPS that only got hyped up because there was nothing else decent on the Xbox.

I agree with the Mortal Kombat statement - that game is tosh, sluggish, ugly and soul destroying. Go and play Street Fighter 2.

Super Mario 64 was/is utter, utter, utter, tedious tosh. I wasted 15 minutes of my life on this crap and question the cognitive abilities of anybody who claims this steaming turd of a game is enjoyable. Wave Racer was also tosh.

Half Life 2 - Look at our amazing physics engine! now enjoy picking things up and moving them somewhere else to progress, because moving things about is fun in real life, so doing it realistically in a game MUST be super fun.

Halo - Boring weapons, those stupid little enemies than are more irritating than Jar Jar Binks playing bagpipes.

Super Mario Bros - Apparantly a classic, I say its an outdated relic. It was totally supersceded a few months after its release by Alex Kidd.

Metal Gear - actually make that any stealth game, hiding, sneaking around slowly, and waiting for people to turn around are not things I particularly want in a game.

This thread is going to make my head explode. Legend of Zelda? Half-Life 2? Super Mario Bros.? Super Mario 64?!? :shock:

Honestly though, I still think Prince of Persia: Sands of Time was given some kind of ultra-secret pass on criticism. The combat was god-awful. Enter a room, fight four bad guys using the same "rinse and repeat" combos, respawn, fight again, respawn, move on. I hated it.

Ary, nobody loves Duke Nukem 3D for the MD. People buy it because it is a cult classic and a collector's gem.

I find man excellent games are just overrated like Halo for example. It was very addicting but it is just another Fps but I spent at least a year of my life playing ever Sunday against all my friends (purgatory to some here)so there must be something to it. The story was interesting until they threw in the stupid flood. The openness of the first levels was nice instead of the typical stuck in a bunch of rooms combat most fps have, but later that is what it turns into. Non the less I can't stop playing it.

I'm really not into FPS games.
Other titles I consider overrated:

- R-Type
- Final Fight
- King of Fighters (and all SNK fighting games)
- Tekken

Dead Rising. I wanted zombie mashing, and all I got was dreadful control schemes, escort missions and an insane (as in 'not fun' insane) storyline. One day I'll pick it up and grind through it, but right now I've got Call of Duty 4 and Gears of War to keep my thumbs active.

Street Fighter 2

Yeah, I said it.

Those remade Mario games on the GBA. After playing the remake Mario 2 for 5 minutes I wanted to reach into the game and punch Mario in the mouth. He needs to shut the fuck up.

I think many of these titles were great when brand new like Final Fight but years later are just another game

Yea Super Mario Bros. for me aswell. The soundtrack is cool but playing it just makes me wanna beat my head against my tv. Also Gunstar Heroes although Im sure if I found a copy for cheap and played it on my genny id warm up to it.

Your going to borrow mine and play it till your eyes fall out.

for the life of me I could never embrace let alone get into any of those Parodius or Twin Deluxe games. And I've given many a-many shots over the years... thinking this time I'd see what everyone else was raving so much about. Psst. Gimme a straight-laced shooter like Layer Section or Souky any day!

aha i just call it a ugly game.Why buy the game if you can download the scan from the internet and put into a MD case,then it costs less then a euro and you have a nise DN3d to look at?.It doesn't seem very rare and i think itt'll never become rare because like everyone on this site gets his copy if wanted to pay for.Anyways if you like it you like it.BTW want to buy KOF 2000 or sengoku 3 100 euro each, theire cult classic ;).

Please don't flame me but Phantasy Star never floated my boat, it's probably one of the most boring RPG's I have ever played.

Super Mario 3 was the apex of the Mario line of games. SMB wishes it could be that great and SMW is a mere copycat of it.

The new mario bros on the ds. It was supposed to be awesome old school goodness, I thought it was better than all the 3-d marios, but no where near mario 1 or 3 or lost levels or world. Sonics better anyway! I still think final fight is great. All these games being made today fuggin blow!

The crux of the Mario problem is that whenever Nintendo make a new side scrolling Mario its always essentially the same as 3 with fancy ribbons in it's neatly made hair

Phantasy Star II; 99% of this site´s users like it, but I despise it from the bottom of my heart.

Alien Soldier: Absolutely overrated imho, mediocre gameplay and the hardware is obviously underpowered for it.

Mortal Kombat: Just a bunch of extremely shitty games, the 128-Bit-versions are alright though.

Half-Life²: It got so much praise and is one of the highest rated games ever in German magazines, but I almost fell asleep and quit after 3 hours of boredom.

Shin Megami Tensei: I just hate the whole series, but "true" RPG-fans have to love it I´ve been told.

well here's a great example of how overrated alien soldier is,i tried to play it as many times as i could,to actually like it but all the levels are the same theyre all not so intresting.The bosses just keep coming,the faked transparancys they used on the water looks like shit ''what you can't do you rather wouldn't''.
the semi 3d effect,s are nifty as hell and the ending is absolute the worst thing ever,you get nothing except a look at a earthball.Graphically if you seen ranger x you wont be wowing with this effort.

I like Alien Soldier but it is just to damn hard it makes my head hurt. Im not really into memorizing every little pattern. I think Contra fals into this catagory as well. When I ran through it with a game genie I got the the feeling that it was made so hard to make up fo the lack of levels in it.

aww contra hard corps hard? its one of the most chalenging games out there but it,s defnitly doable and one of the more playable games,dynamite headdy is more difficult then hard corps,alien soldier isn,t that hard also and i just dont like the game,it looks cool but many levels are inside and they dont as impressive as gunstar or Batman and robin and the only cool thing i like is the fame bird thing.After a struggle trought this game because its hard and the boss fights become boring because they are to long,You get the most unitresting end.i didnt care for the story line because its in the begining and t the end and thats it,just per minute in screen boss fights.

I never found it doable and I got way further in Dynamite Headdy. Maybe I just suck at games.

I'll concede it probably takes a while to recycle it, you know the projects starting and stopping frequently so Nintendo can replace the programmers who are now in a peristent vegetative state from working on something so horrendously gay :P :P

Any of the 3D vs. fighter games (from Virtua Fighter to Tekken and onwards). I can't seem to get into it like how I got into SF or KoF...not that I'm any good at them.

Have you tried Soul Caliber on Dreamcast? its one of the only 3D fighting games I've really gotten into.
