Those BDUs gotten you any dates yet?
I'm not quite in the operational Air Force. I'm still in Tech School. Two more months!
What I'm wearing is ABU's, not BDU's. The Air Force is phasing out the BDU's.... I don't like the BDU's, hell I don't have any, and wasn't issued any. Why buy them when they are getting phased out in 2011? Plus you have to wear black boots that need to be shined, well, ok, you can wear the sage green ABU boots with them, but it looks like ass. And you have to iron and starch ABU's... why call it a Battle Dress Uniform when it has to be starched and ironed? The Desert Combat Uniform is being replaced with the ABU as well.
You can currently wear tan or green boots with the ABU's. But in 2011, the green boots will be the only ones allowed. In tech school, we can't really wear the green boots, unless everyone has them, and they do not. I want the green boots, but the clothing store at Lackland is always selling fast, and $110 is a lot of money if I can't really wear them much.
No dates, the Air Force has a real strict policy about wearing ABU's off base, it's not as strict as the Marines (the only time you can wear it off base is while operating a POV) but rather strict. The military is REAL lax, IMO with uniforms off base. I used to live near a US Army base and I'd see soliders making long ass trips all over the place, buying booze in uniform and not wearing cover off duty. I wanted to wear the ABU's on the plane on the way home from tech school, but they are not authorized on commerical air craft. :(
The ABU's have a few bugs - some uniforms not matching well, ie two different color grades, and production issues, but they fit good and are suprisingly comfty.
Regardless, you look a lot tougher there than the MySpace picture in the tuxedo!

Camouflage in the office seems a tad pointless. Do they expect enemies to attack them there?
Also please confirm or deny: It is an unwritten policy within the military that you cannot smile when your photo is being taken.
Expect the enemy to attack you anywhere at anytime. Flightline, Burger King, or out shopping for deodorant and anti-itch creme. Office personnel wear camo so that when commies or terrorists bust down the door they can safely hide in any nearby office plants.
Deny: It is official policy that all personnel are to never smile when wearing camo and having your picture taken.
Not just camo, but full dress as well. All pictures of military personnel I see have a facial expression like they are unhappy or possibly angry. And families display pictures like these!
It applies to all military dress.
In the Air Force we have Blues... I hate that damned Flight Cap, but I want the Service (bus driver) cap, but you need a full service dress to wear it. If you could wear it in any combination, I'd be happy.
Lotsa people smiled in their BMT yearbooks, I sorta smiled, but I was in blues.
I'm actually not that tough haha, just got some definition...
