I think the build quality of the pictured unit looks pretty good for a clone/pirate/what-have-you.
And is it just me, or is the server really laggy today?

That's awesome. I've never seen a pirated Genesis/Megadrive before. I wouldn't mind picking that up (or any other clones).Quote:

There are quite a few Mega Drive-clones.
woah thats pretty cool, maybe they should of done something like that in the first place ;) but yeah on youtube there is a video about the scorpion,, the abillity to play import games just by flicking the switch,, the scorpion is very accuarte aswell :D
That Scorpion is 1:1 100% compatible and superior to real MD !!! I had one clone that had same chips that Scorpion has - its video was better, audio cleaner and all parts were pin compatible to original (but unfortunately it fried becasue of thunder :( ).
I had a Russian clone called Magistr Drive (now it lives with Epicenter), and that thing had poor audio, poor video, poor compatibility... www.newgame.ru - that place is the answer to all your pirate needs (if you have reseller in your country).
I remember the Scorpion from a TV show. I found it on YouTube.
Sega Megadrive Clone - The Scorpion
Notice the lack of power down as he rips the cart out and jams it into the other. Im so glad Andy Crane got the sack from childrens TV! Motormouth for swearing while taking a ride in a Gyroscope! :bull:
Is that piece of machinery (Scorpion) still in production?
I highly doubt it is...
The Scorpion was in production when the Mega Drive was still supported; like 12 years ago or so. So I bet it is not in production anymore.
Motormouth was awesome, with it's life-sized version of the Mouse Trap board game. :D Andy Crane was also a bit awesome, but was no Pat Sharpe.Quote:

Its 24bit as in it has a 16bit cpu and a 8 bit cpu, one for the megadrive and one for the famicom side of it.
Thats the same kind of dodgy maths that makes the Atari Jaguar 64bit
I had a Scorpion, really nice well built piece of kit, I remember all the indies and Electronics Botique around where I live in the UK stocked them.
Never ever seem to see them now, even on eBay but I knew loads of people who had them back in the day.
Where did they come from?
not only does it play Megadrive and Famicom games but they managed to squeeze in elements form the old Arcade Power Stick.
That looks pretty cool.
I've seen the Scorpion before:
YouTube video of it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rg-E2jXVx5k
I remember a few magazines banning them from being listed in the classified ads for fear of action from SEGA.
Ah, those were the days :D
I'd rather have a Genesis/MegaDrive than a Scorpion. At least I can get RGB out of the real deals without modding.
My clone that had same chips as Scorpion didn't need any modding to get RGB.. all connectors were same, but the quality of signals was higher, seriously !!!
The Scorpion's RF out quality was far above and beyond that of a stock Mega Drive.
Not just RF, composite is too... RGB is same
The Scorpion couldn't take the 32X or the Mega CD. That proves it is inferior to the original.
My clone with same chips as scorpion had would have supported both... all signals were 100% functional... even the SMS mode worked without a problem. But due to power failure I have a dead machine :( :( :(
Just because it had the same chips as the Scorpion doesn't mean that it was exactly the same as the Scorpion. The Scorpion didn't have RGB out, and if it did the pin configuration was all wrong because the 32X could not work with it. I'll take the real deal over some bootleg trash.
I'd take the real deal too, but 7 years ago I had nothing else (and no possibility for anyting else)... my clone had very good RGB out on a same connector just like my early MD1s without TMSS have. But all my systems will go through a connector pinout mod, since I use same cable on all my systems.
Whoa, been a while since I've posted.
Anyway. I always liked to play around with Famiclones, but I never tried any of the Genesis Clones. I have the Neo Fami (Yobo FC Game Console) and Generation Nex and I've played with a Polystation.
Would be an interesting article if anyone would be willing to collect and compare these things. I heard something about an SNES and Genesis combo machine. What I wouldn't have done for that when I was a kid.
