We've been getting a good amount of snow here lately, and on a day where we got particularly more than other days, I thought it would be a good time to go thrifting. I was hoping the Goodwill Bargain Bin wouldn't be swamped with resellers considering the weather, and it turned out I was right. It was kind of crazy that the four people who have literally been there every single time I have (regardless of whether it was 10 a.m. or 7 p.m.) the last six years were not there. It was actually kind of dead. I ended up finding these at the bin (not the cat - he was already mine):

I expressed some concern over the PS3 not working while checking out, and the cashier ended up giving it to me for $4.05. Jump Force was $0.15. I never really had any interest in that game, but I figured it was an actual game that could be enjoyable for a low price. Disc is in good shape too. I opened up the PS3 not really knowing what to expect, and everything looked really clean - there was hardly even any dust in it. I powered it up, and it worked just fine. Even had a copy of Soul Calibur IV in it. I've been wanting another PS3 because I don't really trust them and am not sure when mine will crap out.
Next, I decided to go next door to the main store and found this:
https://u.cubeupload.com/BubsyFan1/IMG3477.jpg
It was $7 and marked as an electronic device, which means I had a week to return it if it didn't work. It ended up working just fine though!
That's it. Probably won't find anything decent for the rest of the year.
Windexs the crap out of that controller! It looks like it was laying in a pile of dirt!
I decided to drop by a Game X-Change in Texarkana, while I was up there doing work today. I picked up all of this while I was there. The Crimson Skies game is for a friend.

Some of this is Birthday stuff. The rug is part of the haul. Zone of the Enders hat. The PS4 game is Megaton Musashi which is a mecha action game.

Everything looks great, except Battle Monsters. Who convinced you to buy that Leynos?
Didn't even know what it was really but Japanese Saturn game and was practically free so why not.
I recently came across an incredibly clean GBC and rigged it up with a backlit screen this week. No real modding, just a screen swap. We've got a vacation coming up next month, and I like having a little handheld that fits in my pocket instead of something big like the switch. The lack of a backlight made it so hard to see with the GBC though, much worse than my GB Pocket. So I looked into the screen thing, and I'm pleased with how it turned out.

Of the other stuff I've picked up this month, the custom rotary jag controller takes Tempest 2K to the next level. Seriously, it plays so much better with the rotary dial. I found one of those old wooden cassette cases from the 90s, and it fits my Jag games perfectly. It fits Genesis carts too, for the record, but not 32x. Hexen's complete and the price was right. I'm partial to those mid-90s fps games, and never played this one before.
The other controller is a wireless pad for the PS2. It's by Retro Fighters or Brawlers, and I picked up a similar one for the 64 last year, and loved it, so when I saw they came out with one for PS2, I ordered it right away. I keep my ps2 hooked up on my main tv downstairs, and have one of those long extension wires for the controller, and the baby is always chewing on it. Ha! So I've wanted a wireless pad for a while, but there aren't many out there, and most are kind of janky. This one is really nice though.

Dave Halverson (at Gamefan) gushed about the fighting game, so I picked up the North American version. He must have been on drugs that day, because it was anything but a good game. It’s all digitized fighters with very few frames of animation. The game was just choppy as hell.
HAHA! I just played it. Yeah, it's not good but it made me laugh. That era of games with digitized sprites. Sonic and Mortal Kombat gave us a bunch of shitty clones of those games. I dunno I kinda like having it as Eternal Champions. That time period of chasing Mortal Kombat and maybe only Killer Instinct did it right.
Battle Monsters is awesome for all the wrong reasons. Gunmetal and Chrome Hounds, sweet. XG3 and Kenitica, also sweet. Zen-like racing at it's finest. Makes me wonder why I've never tried any of the modern Wipeout or Redout games.

Got myself another new toy recently. One of these modern consoles; a newfangled Panasonic "C3PO" or something to that effect. Apparently it's "REAL" and not just a simulation like most video games. So in a lot of ways, I feel like a jackass having bought a PS5 when there's THIS thing. But seriously, Crash n Burn and Blade Force both exceeded my expectations. Haven't tried Stellar 7 yet, but it looks cool.

Spec Ops the Line is a deceptively good shooter/adventure that I overlooked probably a million times as a generic military shooter, until a friend of mine kept raving about how good it actually was. Crash Time is a generic/budget Burnout 3 clone, or perhaps more of a modernized Runabout? Blood Stone was Bizarre Creations last game unfortunately, great studio RIP. Battlefield Hardline is not a Battlefield game, it's a cop-drama FPS. With NFS Rivals I can finally say that I have all of the games now, I forgot about this one. Hour of Victory IS a generic shooter. It was Midway's attempt to cash in on a trend; it's not Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, or Battlefield it's just... Hour of Victory, and that's kind of what piqued my interest. Gameplay reminded me of some no-frills old school FPS action, so why not. To me Midway always put out solid games, RIP once again.
I always wanted a 3DO, just never jumped at the chances I had to get one. The games were uber cheap about a decade ago.
I kind of wish that I hadn’t traded in Battle Monsters (traded it in to pay for the DC at launch). It’s so bad, that it’s good, just for the laugh at what you’re seeing. It’s sort of like all of those cheesy monsters you see going against Godzilla in the black and white films.
Likely be the last one of these bigger hauls for a while. Likely just see a couple of games from me for some time. I almost bought Darius Gaiden on Saturn but for the same price I got the collection Switch with several games including Gaiden.

Step by literal step, someone explain how you get pictures to appear in your posts. For some reason it is a crap shoot for me just on this website. I've built computers but a damned website won't allow me to post pics!
Upload your pic to an image hosting site like imgur https://imgur.com/
Copy your image link then on S16 when posting click the image icon next to the film strip. Select from URL. Paste the link but uncheck the little box. Attachments are broken don't the site. Make sure the picture is in PNG or JPEG format. You can also just use this Quote this post and you will see in the text.

JCU, while the forum does allow attachments, they do not work very well. I haven't even attempted to use them in many years. Most of us use a 3rd party photo hosting site (such as postimg, imgbb, imgur, etc). Then, you can post the direct link from your photo into the window icon in the reply bar. Or you can use the html code: [ img ] direct link here [ /img ] but without any of the spaces.
Edit: Ha! When I opened the thread, I only looked at the first page, and didn't realize leynos already took care of it. Derp.
Thank you. A hosting site is the key! That explains it.
I once used a service called photobucket, until the site just started running too slow to use. Then to make things worse, they started watermarking photos for members, that didn't pay for a subscription.
The easiest way to do it, is to attach it in the advanced section of the post options. Then do a preview of your post. You'll see how your post will look, which will include the attachments. I just click on the attachment, right click on the image and copy the attachment address. You just have to make sure that your pictures are under 250k, or they'll be shrunk down to about 85K.
Exhibit A.

I've got an eclectic mix going on here. Some more 3DO gems that caught my fancy, Monster Manner is a very early FPS, but it's like one of those cheesy carnival haunted house rides. I like it. Quarantine is kind of an early Carmageddon, Slayer is a first person dungeon crawl with randomly generated levels. Also working on rounding out my Jaguar collection again. I swear there is no console more difficult to collect these days than Jaguar, other than probably Neo Geo AES, but it's not too far behind.
If you ever feel like game collecting has gotten too expensive, spend a few weeks chasing Jaguar stuff, then go back to seeking anything else and it will all seem quite reasonable again. Ultra Vortek is a MK clone, Fight For Life is a VF clone. People tend to bash the games, but I dig em. A handful of recent PS5 releases, I'm really eager to try Wanted Dead. Project Cars is probably the best racing sim out there, and it's not a huge tedious grind like so many others in the niche. Really obscure action RPG on PS1. A fourth gen "3D" racer, Off Road Baja. Interesting game, I used to play the original top-down game a lot back in the day.
You have a functioning Jag CD drive?
I picked up a 1TB NVME drive for my PS5. I was hoping to get the 2TB drive for about $70 more, but it sold out fairly quick. It was only $99, but MicroCenter likes to keep the launch price tags on their stuff, to make you feel like you got a great deal. It was a pretty good deal though.

I managed to snap up the last copy of Capcom Fighting Collection, from a local Best Buy. It was on sale for $30.
https://www.sega-16.com/forum/attach...0&d=1677453989
Some of the PS5 games I got during the holiday discount sales at Target, while others I got in January. I didn't pay more than $40 for any of those PS5 games and my wife gave me the Atari 50th Anniversary Collection for Christmas.

Sure do, and hoping to pick up a handful more games for it.
Is GT7 one of those games where you have to be constantly connected to the Internet to play? I've been reluctant, as I've heard some things. Like, there's no real "campaign" mode to the game outside of online?
Damn, made a mistaken pickup yesterday. I grabbed "Andretti Racing" on the Saturn, thinking it was the game F1 Challenge also for the Saturn. I don't really think this one is very good, but F1 Challenge I've been looking out to find for some time.
Capcom Fighting Collection? I have it on Switch but can't get into it.
I love it!
Josie has all those SEGA/DC cameos. Found a MUSHA figure. ASL model and finally bought the Japanese edition of the Mega Drive game and works just fine on the MegaRetron.

I too was rather disappointed with F1 Challenge. Compared to something like Super Monaco GP, it has all the depth of a kiddie pool. But that said, I was expecting a proper F1 game like the one on Playstation, not an arcade racer, so the disappointment was due to my own expectations. It's a decent enough arcade racer I suppose, but I can think of a bunch of better ones on the Saturn.
That's just the thing, I'm not seeking an F1 sim. At least not for any retro console. I enjoy games like SEGA's Virtua Racing, the Jag's World Tour Racing, etc. Just yesterday, I grabbed a copy of F1 Pole Position on the N64 because it's the only arcade game on the platform... kind of like F1 Challenge on the Saturn.
You can pretty much drive your car through an opponent. The hit detection is abysmal.
Eh, it got the CGR seal of approval. That's got to count for something.
Sometimes his Seal of Approval isn't for game quality. It might be his version of Green Dog!
https://i.ibb.co/pPbqF1v/IMG-4317-1.jpg
Another eclectic mix. PlayStation just has so much variety, I'd never even heard of this Gunfighter before I spotted it. You'll never stop disovering new games on the platform. 18 Wheeler was a game I wanted back in the day, but never had. Ooze, another off of the ole wish-list. Forgotten Worlds, how could I not have it? Wing Commander, I never really played any of them before. F1 Pole Position, an arcade F1 racer... and New Dawn because Far Cry is cool.
I'm not familiar with a lot of the old publications in regards to video game books. Does anyone know some good, older books from back in the day similar to Jaguar Gamer's Guide that sort of focus more on SEGA, Nintendo or PlayStation platforms? Like for tips, tricks and strategy types. I honestly prefer the old-school method of obtaining hints, rather than just watching someone play through it on YouTube. I really dig this Jag guide.
https://i.ibb.co/cQs39nV/IMG-4333.jpg
Quite a few PlayStation pickups. A couple of obscure racing games GT Sports Car and Mobil 1 Rally, both of the Medal of Honor games... the ones that kind of kick-started the whole genre of war shooters. Colony Wars III because lengthy space shooters. Tyco RC, yet another RC game of many on the system. Renegade Racers, obscure kart racing game. Syndicate Wars, never realized there was a sequel to Syndicate. Assault Rigs, a really cool tank shooting game, Psygnosis ftw. A trio of stone cold classic shooters for the Genesis Turrican, Zero Tolerance, Universal Soldier and one for SNES I'd honestly never heard of until now, Soldiers of Fortune?
Scars Above is a cool looking 3rdPS that recently released. Shat on by the critics, but I think it looks good. Demon Throttle is like a classic NES scrolling shooter, that really emulates that retro shooter feel very nicely. Then I've got some more Jag stuff. Kasumi is a corny MK clone, Power Drive Rally a decent overhead racing game, Syndicate the PC classic tactical shooter, Towers II, the only RPG on the console, first person dungeon crawler style and BattleMorph, the reason to own a Jag CD and a vast improvement over CyberMoprh. I also picked up a copy of Robo Squash because it was inexpensive and I don't own a single Lynx game. Until now. Contemplated actually getting one of those things, but I just don't like handhelds. I wanna play the games on a TV.
How To Win at Nintendo 64: is not worth the paper it's printer on, I'll probably throw it in the furnace. Very amateur, terrible formatting. He copied the classic Jeff Rovin title How To Win at Nintendo, but instead of offering any useful info on beating said games, each game is a one paragraph synopsis, followed by idiot level bigger tips, then some secrets and cheat codes. There's NO strategies or guides to beating anything. It even says on the introduction page, "there are no guides here, as I don't believe in them". Well then, your crappy book is a scam, because it's called "How To Win". I don't want a list of cheat codes you copied off of the Internet, you turd. Cheap and shitty cash grab, avoid!
Nintendo 64 Survival Guide: this book is okay... not super great. It's formatted well enough, as a guide. At least most of the games (which aren't many) that are featured, have genuine strategies and even some full walk-though material. A few of the games, they copped out on and didn't offer but a couple pages of basic info, but most of them give a pretty in-depth look. If you really like N64 launch titles, maybe give it a look?
The Big PlayStation Book (2001): a little disappointed with this one too. It's a huge book, formatting is well done, lots of screenshots, etc. Of the 250 games featured, maybe 25% of them actually have any significant strategy or walk-through content. Many are just one page rewrites of the basic instruction manual content, which is utterly pointless. This is Prima, why the hell do they do this? If you're not going to offer any insight into progressing through the game, why put it in the book? I dunno, I can't really recommend it.
Famicom:
Metro Cross
Yume Penguin Monogatari (Not as cheap as I would've liked, but waited 15 years to finally get this)
SNES/SFC:
Hat Trick Hero 2
Art of Fighting 2
Genesis/MD:
Kyukai Douchuuki (Yay, Namco baseball!)
PS1:
Pac-Man World
Soul Edge
Game Boy:
Pac-Man Color Edition
Ms. Pac-Man Color Edition
Twinbee Da
Could've gotten at least 2 more games, but Yume Penguin Mongatari is one of those Famicom Konami games that isn't the most expensive, but also isn't cheap like it was 15 years ago. Seems like it has sort of settled in price, between $45 for a loose cart up to around $70, to well over 100 boxed, or higher. I went the cart route, $44.
The robot fighter was alright and most likely a title I could venture into if I give it some time but I'm apprehensive about the overwhelming majority. With many of these niche games on Switch (Nintendo for the most part), I tend on buying them because if you snooze, you lose and down the line we see what happens with prices. For laughs I priced Metroid Pinball and Hunters and I can't believe the prices let alone if you include the rumble pack.
I finally found a physical copy of Metroid Prime Remaster for the Switch. A friend also hooked my up with Demon Attack and Time Crisis 4. My copy of Contra Anniversary Collection finally arrived from Limited Run.
The colors for the cover from The Contra Collection look a bit off. Like if someone used a color copier and it adjusted the colors.
https://www.sega-16.com/forum/attach...3&d=1679273480
Demon Attack. That game is one of a few personifying the 2600 for me. Imagic might get some heat but it was worth owning.
