Universal Soldier is basically Turrican 2. Except they changed several bosses (for the worse, but they're tolerable), removed the shmup stages, and added in some new levels. Even if you've never played Turrican 2, you can tell which levels are new as they're not as good and somewhat generic. But they're not that bad, either.
Universal Soldier gets a bum rap because of the license and because Turrican fans are a bunch of purists. It's really not a bad game at all IMO.
Is music any good? Also I heard there is a giant Dolph Lundgren Boss! Any truth to that? I might have to get it if thats the case for humor reasons. Turrican heads are crazy purists, your right. Their insane for sure
Yes, there is a Dolph Lundgren boss, which is probably the game's lowest point. It's pretty ridiculous.
The music is okay. Better than in the Genesis port of Turrican, but it doesn't exactly compare favorably to the Amiga Turrican 2. I have heard that they actually took the C64 soundtrack and worked "up", rather than taking the Amiga soundtrack down. I've never played the C64 version so I couldn't tell you if that theory makes sense or not.
Someday I'd like to play the CDTV version of Turrican 2.

CDTV was a CD-ROM based set top box type system by Commodore. Its library was mostly crap, but it's notable for being both a CD-ROM game console and a fully functional ECS Amiga (including Workbench and everything) -- just add keyboard/mouse/floppy. Most CDTV software can be run on an Amiga with CD-ROM drive also, and the CD32 is backwards compatible as well. Unfortunately Commodore failed to capitalize on the "computer crossover" aspect of the system (as well as failing to release an official Amiga CD-ROM drive in a timely fashion) and just marketed it as a multimedia game console (like CDi); it was a massive failure as a result. Anyway, CDTV did have a handful of noteworthy games, and among them is a port of Turrican 2. I've never played it, but supposedly its redbook soundtrack is amazing.
I enjoyed Knuckles' Chaotix and Sonic Spinball, both of which a lot of people hated. I also enjoyed Sewer Shark, a game apparently most people couldn't figure out =/
Sewer Shark is a pretty simple game; I don't know how anyone would be unable to figure it out. I think it gets unfairly bashed. It's really not that bad of a game at all.
I also enjoyed Sonic Spinball, and I wish more pinball games were made in that style. It's pinball without really being pinball.
Sewer Shark actually had decent acting and sets.
Yeah its got the fat guy from total recall :0 . I also like sewer shark. First time I played it I really thought it was The Next Level of gaming. I was impressed with sega cd when it came out " Look at these graphics its like real life!". Took me a minute to realise how bad FMV games are, but sewer is one of the better ones in terms of having some gameplay I feel.
