Bad superhero movies & TV shows

Somehow my interest in uperheroes was recently enflamed anew, and thanks to the power of the www I found out about film-adaptions of comicbooks I never knew they existed.

So...
Has anybody seen the mysterious JLA-live action-pilot? Or the never released low-budget Fantastic Four-movie from the early nineties?
How are they, and can I download them somewhere?:p

And the second part...
Which do you think were the best and worst Superhero-live-action-films/series and the best/worst Superhero cartoons?

Bad adaptions make me think of Batman & Robin, Supergirl, Superman III & IV, the 70´s Spider-Man series and Dolph Lundgren as Punisher.
Good ones: Spider-Man 1 & 2, Superman 1 & 2, Superman Returns, Tim Burton´s Batman movies, Batman Begins

As for cartoons I must say Batman: the animated series from 1992 stands pretty much alone on the top, maybe the Fleischer-Supermans are close.

The whole load of Marvel-cartoons to this day are crap for me.

I liked Superman III a lot, well more accuratley the whole part of the film where Superman turns evil, then goes to scrap yard where the two sides of his personality battle each other. The conflict is all in his mind, but its shown visually. That is one of the best scenes in any film. It is a shame that the rest of the film doesn't live up to that - like Superman suffocating in a balloon near the end, when we have seen him flying around in space plenty of times.


The Batman animated series as you said is brilliant. The problem most cartoons have is they treat children like idiots, that series had just as much care and thought put into it as the Burton films, it could be enjoyed by both kids and adults.

speaking of the crappy dolph lundgren punisher movie, the new punisher is probably just as crappy, maybe even crappier.

The next Punisher looks noticably different.

The only one I think was actually fun was that one where Spider-Man had as special friends Iceman and Firestar.
One particular episode which stood out was the one where they would go to the x-mansion and help the X-Men.

I love the animated DCU "Timmverse." As great as Batman:TAS is though, I have to say that JLU is better written across the board. Batman had a ton of gems, but there were some "just okay" or so-so episodes in there as well such as "I've Got Batman In My Basement" and "The Underdwellers." I myself don't care for comics, but I love the character of Batman and fell in love with the show after "Heart of Ice." From there I followed Bruce Timm/Paul Dini to Superman and eventually the Justice League shows. The first season of JLU is absolutely brilliant, and I would have loved to see that kind of epic story arc in Batman: TAS.

There was an X-men cartoon that ran on Saturday afternoon that was good.

Hmh. I never watched the JLA-stuff; After the Superman animated series I thought the concept could never work without the dark atmosphere; and the JLA is traditionally so bright and shiny I never even bothered with it.

About X-Men: I know the successfull series that ran in the 90´s, but I hated it. Everything seemed so rushed, like they had trouble putting all that stuff into a 20-minute episode. Not to mention the lame animation...same goes for the 90´s Spider-Man.

Batman: The Animated Series stands as THE BEST comic adaptation, film or otherwise. Other good examples are (in order) Batman Begins, Spider-man 2, Spider-man 1, Batman, Xmen 2. I realize I left out ALL of the Superman movies. Wasn't on accident.

Worst adaptation: Batman and Robin. Go back and watch it. It'll make you want to poke your eyes out.

Superman is a boring character in general, and initially I didn't care for it much. The first season is decent but not so interesting. Superman's cast is pretty poor in my opinion, and it wasn't until the later episodes as the show ended its run when the writers brought in Dark Seid and the New Gods elements when the show started to really shine. I'd still recommend watching it, since a few plot points from the JL and JLU are derived from Superman.

JL is pretty weak in season one as well, but it finds its footing soon enough. JL and JLU turn Superman into a pretty good character based on his hatred of Dark Seid and humanity's growing resentment of him and the superheroes which protect them. Undoubtedly the palette is brighter than Batman, but unless that's the sole reason you enjoyed that show and not for the great characters and writing, then you'd probably really enjoy the other DCAU shows, most notably JLU. Just because the shows aren't bathed in black doesn't mean that they aren't dark. :) ( Triple negative bonus score! :p )

Indeed, by calling JLA "bright" I was not referring only to the used colours; I meant that the look of the Superman series was very cold and unatmospheric in general to me, but I never bothered watching after season 1. The only highlight I experienced in Superman TAS was the episodes with the main man Lobo, that dirty bastich! Harharhar!

I think I'm one of the few people who hated the movie Batman Returns. It was ass, and Danny DeVito's character annoyed the hell out of me. I wanted to set the theater on fire every time he came onscreen and started slobbering.

At least they did not put some nonsensual love-story in Batman Returns...the only woman he is interested in in that movie was Catwoman, and that comes from the comics. Usually Hollywood has the tendency to add a stupid love-story, last seen in Batman Begins, although it does not match the character.

I hope someday The Dark Knight Returns will be turned into a movie, with Adam West as Batman.

I actually loved The Punisher movie with Dolph Lundgren. I happily own it on DVD <3
