Why not sonic 2D?

Let's face it, well if you have not already sonic has stunk for too long! I have not enjoyed a sonic game since Sonic Adventure. Even that one was hampered with bad controls and crappy camera angles! Why the hell can't they go back to a side scrolling 2D interface? Could you imagine the backgrounds they could pull off? The speed? The motion caption? The list goes on and on. Dose anybody agree the franchise needs to find its roots? If so would going 2D be the way to go? Lots of questions but worth pondering:notworthy:

I was wondering about this very same thing last week.
Even for those who believe 2D is dead, a new 2D Sonic could not be as financially lackluster as the last ones that came out - I mean it from the point of view of the developer.
So many crappy stuff came out these last few years... Why not give it a try on the good'old style that we all love?

I just can't see how it could hurt. Think about it.... How many programmers would it take? Not many, plus we read all these articles about how old school gaming is making a comeback. There's a market,and if you don't agree then why is Xbox live and Wii bringing these old games out again via download? Not to mention all the emulator stuff.

I agree that an uber-2D Sonic game would be awesome and I would love to see Sonic return to his roots.

Okay so that's 3 for new Sonic in 2D, and 1 Sonic Rush fan.

(or the sequel), Sonic Rivals (or the sequel), or any of the downloadable XBLA and mobile phone games, the new DS RPG counts I suppose...

I'm suprised more people don't have an opinon.

It'll probably happen eventually, albeit as an XBLA download or something. I thought the first two GBA games were great, and Sonic Rush aint half bad either. Will it be any good? Probably not, they'll try to hard to re-invent the formula like they always do, but I hope it happens nonetheless.

I have an opinion, but this particular topic has been beaten to death. It pops up at least twice a year on every board I visit.

(and that is quite often given how far the franchise has fallen)

it would be nice to see a 2D Sonic game, that would feel like some MD version, since the GBA and NDS versions are not what they should be....

She was never cross-eyed.

However, she never ever had legs anywhere near as nice as what Stacy Keibler has.

Yeah, what we need is a traditional Sonic platformer in the style of Sonic Rivals, but not racing. You know, 3D graphics, 2D gameplay. :sonic:

Really? I liked Sonic Heroes more than Sonic Adventure.

My favorite Sonic game is Sonic Adventure 2. City Escape, anyone? Though I must say Sonic 3 and Knuckles is on my top 5 list.

I love SA2, and City Escape is my fav too. S3&K is number 1 in my TOP5 Sonic games, SA2 is 2nd.

I thought Sonic Rush was pretty cool. Not a mind-blowing experience or anything, but good fun. I would have preferred no other characters besides Sonic, though. Or failing that, just don't add a character!

Of course I see with the sequel they've decided to ad another character and muck it up with pseudo-RPG elements. *Sighs*

I'm one of the few people that has really enjoyed all of the new 3d sonic games (except for riders), but i love the advance trilogy and rush just as much!

I liked Sonic Riders. I didn't like Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, though. WAY too short and easy...

I think Sonic "fans" over react big time over the new Sonic games.

"What?!? I can choose to play as a diferent character than Sonic?!?!? This sucks! Sega really needs to go back to there 2D roots."

Ummm, didn't you have ability to play as other characters is Sonic 3 and Knuckles?

"Yeah, but those were good characters! Just good old Sonic ,Tails and Knuckles! None of these gay Shadow, Blaze amd Cream wanabes"

Yet, you complained about having to play as those very three characters in Sonic Adventure 2...

"Er, um, SHUT UP! I ALOT more knowlagible then you! I've made pallete hacks, level hacks, hell I even made Knuckles playable in Sonic 1! So don't you tell me what to do before I get mu SonED map and blah, blah, blah..."

Right, yep, that shure is a TRUE fan. Uh huh, true fans say the games they play suck all the time...boy those fans impress me with hacking abilities...not...

Most Sonic fans can't stop complaining about the voice overs and the amount of characters. Sonic Adventure was originally just going to be Sonic, Knuckles and Eggman but people complained so they gave some of the levels to Tails, Shadow and Rouge - then enter Sonic Heroes in which Sonic Team say "12 characters, that'll shut them up!" And thats when people started complaining there were too many...
