A liberal arts Bachelors degree is better than any Associates degree and will allow you to make it "up the latter" further down the road. It will also teach necessary skills for communication and reading, and writing, to appear intelligent and well educated to almost anybody. If IT is your goal though, you could finish up a two year degree in general studies with an emphasis in whatever field you prefer and combine it with certifications and you will be able to apply to jobs and actually qualify.
The catch with IT is you had better be willing to be mobile rather than settle down in any given area.
