I don't know what graphics card to get - my current one (HD 6450) I got because it was cheap, but it was only to be a temp upgrade. It can run games like Skyrim and Sonic Generations, but they have run really slow and stutter in places.
Searching around, and it seems I have two choices for my next card: the HD 6670 or the HD 7750. I'd be running them on a 275w PSU, and people have said the 6670 would be pushing it power-wise; yet it's cheaper than the 7750.
I don't really care about price, I'm just after performance.
Tomshardware is where I always compare my graphics cards. I wouldn't go high end without a 650 watt power supply though. What were the rest of your system specs?
Also, I've only got an HD 4850 in my HTPC and I'm hardly getting any stuttering in the Arkham games or Sonic Generations. Sonic Generations in particular is mostly CPU driven. Once I upgraded my old dual core to a 3.2Ghz, from 2.4Ghz, it ran fine. With the octal core it's smooth as silk, too bad I don't care for the game. I haven't tried Skyrim.

I could be wrong, but I think you might have already maxed out what a Dual Core system can do. Unless the game ignores the CPU and uses the GPU for everything you are going to see the same lag points and bottlenecks from the CPU. That is a very fast Dual Core though, most games ought to be smooth. If you can get a Direct X 11 graphics card that has on board physics you will notice a difference from that. The power constraint of that PSU is going to be the biggest problem for further upgrades.
I'm assuming this computer only has one optical drive and one hard drive and not much as far as expansion slots being used up. One day you might want to consider replacing the hard drive with an SSD, but I have yet to do that myself. So far I just use a 32GB USB3.0 flash drive for virtual memory and optimization.
Yeah, only 1 optical and 1 harddrive. I don't really want to upgrade this computer too much tbh; just want to get it to be able to play some of the latest games from last year at a decent rate and then, buy and build another computer from scratch for upcoming games. No more Dell crap.
According to this site, the 6670 looks like it wipes the floor with my current card; even if it does mostly get bottlenecked, it'd got be at least some what of an improvement. I think I'll get that when I can.

It's odd that you are having trouble at all, my 4850 runs everything I've thrown at it without trouble. I'm sure the higher end cards would be even better though. I've been waiting for an excuse to upgrade mine and put the 4850 back in my old dual core system.
The only game is seems to work ok with is Team Fortress 2, but that's not really pushing the machine graphics-wise. I don't know...could adding more RAM increase FPS? ( I can go up to 8, right now I'm at 4).Quote:
