Beast was awesome in X-Men III and made up for Nightcrawler's absence.;)
^The acting was superb, but he wasn't nearly as tremendous as Night Crawler. Sorry.
I thought I had already thoroughly stated my distaste for The Last Stand.
And yes, I hate that they didn't make him part of the team. Apart from Morph, he is the most interesting character in the whole franchise.
But there's much more to it than that regarding my loathing of The Last Stand. I liked it for the special effects and SciFi, but hated it for the storyline, unnecessary deaths and total incompleteness at closing.
Oh, and, that dude "Angel" is about the lamest excuse for a mutation ever; third only to that idiot who "spikes up" and does nothing else at all! (who, in turn, comes second to that other moron in the forest trying to kill Wolverine by throwing these spiky sticks that come from the bottom of his wrists. The dude doesn't even shoot these things, he has to fucking throw them. With his hands! :?). Point being, they had decades of literature with which to work, and instead opted out by making-up the lamest of mutations. The only good thing about the lame mutants is that they pretty much made it so that "Angel" will never effectively become "Archangel" because his wings actually grow back even if he trims them down to a knob.
Yup, none of the X-men movies have even come close. It seems like the directors just see all of the characters that have been created and assume it is a free license to make up their own and mix up some of them (Looking at you Rogue I mean Kitty Pryde).
I can only assume that either Night Crawler was too busy filming Josie and the Pussycats or the studio was like, "General audiences can't handle two blue monster guys!"
Probably both.
And Angel was completely worthless. I can't believe they even tried to imply that he was some kind of pivotal character in the movie. What's even more hilarious is that the DVD cover shows him in the X-Men uniform. I like that actor that played the spikey guy, but goddam he was a lame character. What was he, like a Class TWO mutant? Lulz!!
And seriously, why start classifying the power level of the mutants after two relatively non-comic-booky films? Sheesh...
On the other hand, I really enjoyed "First Class".
I loved First Class, particularly the actors and characters of Xavier and Magneto. Those two absolutely made the movie for me. And yay, Oliver Platt!
What I didn't like:
1. Janky, second-hand mutants. Okay, so I can deal with the fact that there's no Cyclops, Night Crawler, Storm, or Jean Grey. But don't give us lame versions of them, alright? Go all the way or don't bother at all.
2. Kevin Bacon.
3. So Angel's a chick with dragonfly wings, now? Weak. (I nearly called her a fairy, but I figured that would invite too many gay jokes, particularly from those who have seen 3:10 to Yuma.
I was impressed with Kevin Bacon's performance. He was scary as shit.
I thought First Class was a good movie on its own for sure, I just don't understand why they couldn't have at least given a nod to the actual original X-Men in some way, rather than making up even more characters. I don't even care that the first X-men battle was against Magneto not the Hellfire club, I just don't understand why they create the team and it has, what, one of the original members? Avengers would have been a really stupid movie if it had one original member and a bunch of made up ones. Antman and Wasp missing wasn't really a problem because they're just too weird anyway.
The interactions between Xavier and Eric were superb though.
Nah, it was too much of a clusterfuck. Movie was dreadful.
@First Class: I watched it about 4 nights back, I liked it. Only complaint I had was Magneto and Xavier's friendship being rushed; in the comics and previous films they had them as long time friends; yet in First Class, it's only a week that they go from strangers, to friends to finally, frenemies. But I can live with that.
Magneto comes and goes as a good guy throughout the X-Men franchises, he even leads the X-Men for a good long time. Magneto and Xavier only don't get along because of their differing positions on normal humans, where Magneto is a fascist to Xavier's egalitarian position. When it comes to how the world should be run they aren't very different at all, excepting when Magneto goes megalomaniac or tries to destroy the world. Those seem more like psychotic episodes more than his normal character though.
