Why?
Like, do you want me to quantify my opinion? Or do you want facts?
Just a little detail. What aspects of the game put it above the pack?
I'm not asking to start an argument. It's just, I've played A Link to the Past on multiple occasions. I don't hate it or anything. It's good enough for me to keep playing. But it doesn't strike me as God's gift to gamers. It just strikes me as an above-average game. People always gush over it, but they never get very specific. I feel like everyone else is speaking in some kind of code and nobody's bothered to clue me in on the translation.
Heh. There's a few games that I could swap out for ALTTP in that paragraph, but that's another subject.
I don't know, man. If you've played it on multiple occasions as you've said, and still haven't been taken-in by its magic, then there's little I can say to persuade you. I feel the same about how people praise Ocarina of Time, when in fact it is extremely bug ridden and just another platformer amongst many. But A Link to the Past is just one of those handful of games I simply consider "flawless", if there is such a standard, imo. But I've had enough arguments about my opinion for one day, so I'll leave it at that.
It's a damn fine Zelda game and should be in every GBA Collection
I bought the Orange Box for PC today for £2 second-hand, which is a freaking bargain as it usually goes for £15+; brought it home and tried installing it - the code was already activated by the previous owner. So I now have a 2 pound coaster. :( Fuck this Steam bullshit.
Also bought Black & White, Populous, Sheep Dog 'N Wolf (Sheep Raider to you Yanks) for PC, Hitman 2 for Xbox 1, and Duke Nukem Forever for the 360. All for under £10. Not a bad haul if I do say so myself.
Yes. That's not an unusual discussion. I didn't just say "why", I said "what aspects", which is a pretty concrete question. We're not talking about why someone does or doesn't like the taste of lima beans. We're talking about a game that has many aspects that are easily broken down. You could ask me about any of my favorite games, or books or movies, and I absolutely could go into a lot of detail talking about what aspects of those works I feel are exemplary. I don't like a game "just because". There has to be something about the game that I like. And "its magic" is not one of those things.
