Though game play being at least more fun, even if flawed, is still very important to me. ie. Why to this day I still have failed attempts at Morrowind and Oblivion just because I've experienced the more advanced, natural and fun game play of Skyrim & Fallout 3 first. Even for games like the first Mass Effect were everyone including myself says the game play feels pretty clunky and outdated, yet the game play is still very fun and a blast to play through again and again, like some gold standard NES game. It's actually what got me into the ME series and ME1, as I walked away from it a few times, but something about the game play kept pulling me back.
