I find I can get a pretty good experience posting from my tablet, but it has a keyboard. Not too hot on forums with phones.

Online is integral to the Demon/Dark Souls experience. Can't say you've experienced Dark Souls otherwise.
Otherwise, yes they are free. On PS3, that is. For PS4 you have to have PSN Plus. But 3 games in the series are on PS3 anyway. PS - let us know when you start. And I'm not sure starting with the first Demons Souls is best. Might be better to start with Dark Souls 1?
Well, I just read some more on this, and if it means something a la Diablo bitd when PvP was sort of mandatory (but somehow making the game more interesting and engaging), then sure, I'll give it a shot. I understand otherwise you'll still get invaded by phantom NPCs if offline. But, honestly, even as fun as this may sound, it just dropped my interest in playing the franchise waaaaay to the back of my backlog. Simply bc I'm solely interested in solo games (pun intended ;)).
But yeah, I was thinking Dark Souls 1 first. Either that, or Bloodborne.
You don't have to PVP. It's basically still a single player game at it's heart. And you can only get invaded while in human form, of which most likely you won't be in human form. And even in human form, getting invaded doesn't really happen (save for like 2 invasion hotspots; Bell Tower and Anor Londo. And if you do get invaded, there's a grace period before you can get invaded again). You can also summon others to help you with an invader (only one invader can invade at a time while you can summon up to two players to help you with invaders and bosses).
Playing DS online is mostly for seeing what other msgs others and you put on the ground, bloodstains to see how other players died in their world, ghost of other players running around in their world appearing in yours, and most importantly... jolly co-operations. Most folks leave their summon sign for you to summon them just before a boss too, so you can still just play most of the game solo and get some help with bosses if you want it (I personally always summon help for bosses and explore the stages up to the bosses by myself at my pace. And likewise I put my summon sign down to help others + practice said bosses at the same time). You need to be in human form to summon others, and dead form for others to summon you. Others summoning you also gives you humanity so back in your world you can turn human again to summon others to help in your world. But still plenty of humanity to be found as items throughout the game without helping other online too.
PS - here's are the site for game mechanics, how online works and such. [URL="http://darksouls.wikidot.com/co-op"]Dark Souls[/URL & Demon's Souls.
Yeah, I gotta admit that does sound badass. It reminds me exactly of the golden days of the OG Diablo. And the setting is also akin to Diablo. So now I think I may be more interested in this online feature after all. I will try and move it up the list.
Don't have to move it up, QuickSciFi. Just as long as you play it.
Though honestly, I always fear the servers going down for these games. Only DS1 is P2P, the rest are dedicated server based. This is the bad thing about server based games, they don't last as long because they cost way more money for companies to keep up. It's actually unreal that Atlus keeps running Demon Souls servers since October 2009. That's almost 8 years! But Atlas says as long as players keep playing, they'll keep it going. What nice folks and it shows how much players love this game by still playing it. On the other spectrum, Namco Bandai owns the DS series, so who know how long they'll keep their servers up...
I can't use smart phones - due the fact I have big hands. I can't use touch screens because of it, not like I would use them anyway (I hate them regardless even if I could) and mobile phone keyboards usually have tiny buttons, which again, no good. If I could, I'd do this, but then I wouldn't, because I don't want to look like a giant twat. I'll stick with my cheapo £10 phone, gets the job done.
EDIT: Oh, wow. Alien 3 on the Genesis had a cut 20th century logo in the game; the only thing that remains is the theme, which ended up being unused. So fricking cool.

^That's neat. I gotta try it out again as well as the Game Gear version (8-bit version has better gameplay mechanics, imo).
P.S.> On the recent Ridley Scott's comments comparing the saga to Star Wars. I gotta say I have zero issue with it. I love the Alien Saga. At least the core films (also Prometheus). I know he is older now, but for what it's worth, I'm ok and interested if they would like to improve on the storyline.
Yeah, main reason is for the servers on the older ones.
That's nice, SEGA.GENESIS1989, but what made you put up that video? What game with micro transactions rubbed you the wrong way?
The last thing (besides Bond) I saw him in was some program about the KGB and UFO's.
He was always my fave bond and his first 6 bond movies were always my fave bond movies.
