Finally decided to read the Thrawn trilogy, and it was ok I guess, but I don't really agree with the sentiment that it should've been adapted into a movie trilogy. Those books went over the top with Star Wars references even by Star Wars standards (particularly all the recycled dialog), everything that happens is far too coincidental far too often, and I really don't see what people think is so special about Thrawn himself. We're constantly told how great he is, but it never really pans out that way. Hell, the first real battle of his entire career is also his last. Spoiler alert!
It also dawned on me that possibly the most overused cliche in Star Wars is the prison break. Every single movie has one (I assume the Disney ones do as well). And from what I've seen, the books and games aren't much better. Even every Star Wars rip-off is full of prison breaks...like the Abrams Trek and especially the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. It's pretty hilarious how Gunn just swears up and down that he isn't making Star Wars when he's ripping it off so much that even the prison breaks are prominent features in both movies.

It's taken two days, but I finally have all of DBZ with in it's original Japanese broadcast audio. To think, this was in someone's private collection and only saw the light of day because it was leaked by someone who was trying to give it to Funimation; the same company who refuses to release the cartoon it's original aspect ratio and instead cropped 16:9, and milks the series for it's worth.
Bought their shitty Orange box releases, not buying any more of their releases.
Dubbing is always give-and-take, especially with most the shows of that era, but I thought they did a good job with DBZ; and one thing especially to me is that the American OST >>> Japanese OST. Hands down, Faulconer Studios just nailed it.
And DBZ should have ended at the end of Cell Saga. No Buu. No GT. Cell Saga to me was the ending. I still get chills watching that finale.
...also, no one knows Mighty Max^?
Of course I know Mighty Max. Rob Paulsen, Richard Moll, Tony Jay, and Tim Curry. Aired back to back in the morning WHILE EVERYONE WAS AT SCHOOL with Transformers Generation 2. Interesting series finale, too.
You know your Mighty Max man! I had a few of the toys, but didn't hold on to them... and I enjoyed the cartoon. Thinking about getting/making a Mighty Max Cosmic cap. Makes me feel weirdly nostalgic.
Transformers G2 on the other hand, holy cow, I have a large plastic bin worth of Transformers. And a bin of Z-Bots, POGs, Beanie Babies, whatever. Do kids even play with toys anymore?
Kids play with iPads now, getting turned into psychotic freaks by playing Minecraft and Five Nights at Freddy's or some such crap. Toys are for adults to pose in silly ways, then post pictures of them on the Internet.
Reminds me, I still need to finish watching that series past Cell Saga. Used to love love watching 2 episodes a day on TV back in the 90s, but all these shows always ending up on a cliffhanger made the wait for next days episodes painful.
Fast forward to the age of the internet and having them all on a hard drive. Felt good.
Not DBZ related (never really grew up with the series), but I've been eyeing that DVD TMNT box set at Best Buy for a few years now. The one with the van.
A young guy finds himself stranded on a deserted island.
As he washes ashore, he sees a woman passed out in the sand. Able to perform CPR on her, he saves her life.
Suddenly, he realizes that the woman is Scarlett Johansson. Almost immediately, Scarlett falls in love with the man.
Days and weeks go by, and they're making passionate love morning, noon and night. True heaven on earth in the man's eyes.
But for some reason, he starts drifting away. Something was bothering him.
"What's wrong?" Scarlett Johansson asked. "Nothing..." the guy would say...
She pesters him for a while, eventually saying she would do ANYTHING he needed or wanted to make him feel good again.
"Really? You'll do anything I'd like?"
"Yes!" she says "Anything!"
"Ok, first i want you to take off your dress and get into these pair of jeans that washed ashore"
"Ok..."
"Now put my T-shirt on"
"wha... ok" she said lovingly.
"Ok, now, take this hat and wear it, but tuck your hair under it"
She was very confused, but she wanted to make him happy, so she tucked her hair under the hat.
"Now i'd like for you to grab this piece of soot and paint yourself a beard and a mustache"
"Ok... if this is what you want..." she muttered.
"Now, please, put on these sunglasses, and start walking down the beach. I'll catch up to you in a bit", he said a bit excitedly...
She started walking... wondering... doubting herself... just confused about what had just happened, maybe it wasn't her, maybe it was him... suddenly the guy grabs her by her shoulder, turns her around and says: "DUDE!!! you won't believe who I've been fcking for the past 6 months!"
We got the Westwood dub over here. Long story short, I prefer the Westwood dub VAs, couldn't get into the Funi dub because I didn't like their VAs, and starting watching the Japanese version with subs. Can't watch it any other way now.
As for the Boo arc and GT, I'll agree they didn't live up to the earlier parts of the series, but they still had some standout parts. Have you seen DB Super yet?
Yeah, really liked the cartoon. Ending was odd. They went full on dark, killed off the main characters, and then did a full reset. Kinda wish it had a final season just to finish off the story.
No more commercial breaks. I sure as hell don't miss conventional telly now that I have Kodi and all my shows+movies on my harddrive.
Not seen that one. Must be US-exclusive. You're talking about the 80s cartoon right? EDIT: I'm referring to the box set, I've seen the cartoon itself. They repeating it (a lot) in the 90s. Great show. The 2003 series was alright as well.
