I’m totally open to playing PlayStation but there’s still so many Saturn games I need to explore.

But something about Saturn feels like home, whereas PlayStation is like a foreign land

Im kinda pantheistic and believe all things have/are spirits even “inanimate” objects.. PlayStation has a harsher more confrontational vibe.. warriorlike but somewhat erratic and messy... and Saturn is more chill and gives off a “gentle giant” sort of personality.. but at the same time, almost ironically, the Saturn seems almost like an expressionistic/abstract painting and the playstation is like a work of minimalism. These things are hard to define with human language...

See Miyazaki’s The Cat Returns... as he stated in the movie when an artist creates something and believes in it it can take on a life of its own

I love Sony systems for the 3rd party games they get esp Japanese stuff but PS consoles have very few 1st parties IP's I care about and the hardware never feels like it has a personal touch like the hardware has a personality. MS same thing with the Xbox One. SEGA and Nintendo always gave their system a personal touch. Dreamcast home menu was colorful and did things when left alone too long. PS2 felt bland. Gamecube has several different sound effects booting up and plays Famicom disc music real slow on the main menu. Saturn had the spaceship when playing a music CD. Switch has the little sound effects navigating the menus that are just charming or the Wii U menu was nice..tho was slower than shit. MS had something cool with the blades and OG Xbox..tho creepy. Vita has a nice UI but every PS console and even PSP just didn't have the touch SEGA and Nintendo added/add to their systems.

That's bizarre, for me the anticipation and hype for the 32-Bit generation was through the roof. Also the gen where it truly felt like we were getting the Arcade experience at home (this was big since Arcades back then were the mecca of gaming). And once again part of the biggest fun was watching our fave franchises make the big transition leap to 32-Bit as the gen before. Alas, this was the last time this had any real impact. Gaming changed too much after this generation. I like to call it the Golden Age era.

PS1 is my fave from Sony too or maybe just my bias & nostalgia for that gaming era.

I was just playing Dreamcast. The home menu is like a bowl of mint, vanilla, and bubble gum ice cream.

Going by Thiefs logic why would anyone choose an NES over an Atari 7800 despite the success of 2600? The reason is simple. It was marketed heavily with tons of great games and big name games. Saturn had very poor exposure. Some retail didn't sell it.

The 7800 lacked the modern(at the time) genres you'd see on the NES and Master System, like platformers, RPGs, run-and-guns, etc. no one cared about playing space invaders and Donkey Kong in the late 80s. So yes, I agree with you although in a different perspective.

I had zero choice. I had just bought my $119.99 Model 2 Sega Genesis. It was simply not attainable to get a Saturn. Not even a PS1 or an N64.

But looking back, it is clear that the PS1 was where it was at.

I'm just glad I was able to afford a Dreamcast at launch. The only system I've ever bought at launch.

The Saturn had Final Fantasy substitutes. The Saturn suffered from idiotic management and marketing. It had the software and hardware to compete, thats not the case with the 7800.

Edit: I think we can both agree the NES and PS1 were more enticing for different reasons, and its no surprise the consumers chose them instead of 7800 and Saturn.

Edit#2: Besides Mark of Classic Game Room. He was the only kid on his block with a 7800.

The only thing I would compare the NES to is the Sega Master System.

Comparing the NES to the 7800 is like comparing the Saturn to the 3DO or the Jaguar.
