!! RANT INCOMING !!
I normally take the side of GameStop when others decry it as the evil empire. I don't really care about trade-in values as someone who doesn't trade-in. I also don't usually pre-order, but decided to this time because they aren't stocking a lot of Switch games for some dumb-assed reason, a lot of stores won't even get a single copy if the game is low profile.
So got a text yesterday, my pre-order would be ready today! Great. I go to pick it up, and.... uh.... "we didn't get it? Says still in transit. We have the PlayStation version, but no Switch. Sorry?". That's BS enough already, no street date guarantee? So I pull up the app, and it says one other nearby store has the game "in stock". Whatever, I'll just cancel my pre-order and go pick that one up. Get to the store, ask for the game and... uh... "I'm not seeing it. It must be held in the back somewhere. If someone pre-ordered it, they have 24 hours. Sorry?". That's BS!!! The app says "in stock", it doesn't say "someone pre-ordered it". What do you want to bet they'll be transferring that -missing- copy to the other store where I pre-ordered it?
I'm not driving back there. The only reason I would is so that I call "tell GameStop" in the survey how they fucked me and I'll pre-order with Amazon instead now. Their distribution for Switch games is fucking horrible.
I was a manager there and they are evil in more ways than people complain about.
TV Movie yeah. I sometimes confuse it as a series since King had so many mini series in the 90s.
Do you think it's much better at fucking Amazon? Or at any brick and mortar store? Where I live, the number of Switch titles at even a Wal-Mart is not the greatest selection. Kind of hard to trust Nintendo. Even a 3DS lineup at a store is very thin.
Have you gotten more cynical lately?
lol no but I know things at least how Gamestop used to run and it was some nasty stuff like letting employees take home those opened new games home to play for a few days was allowed. Employees got to rent those new games and people still paid top dollar for a used game. Now gutting a game is still new as it's never been played in theory unless they still allow employees to rent games. Gamestop is also a Commission noncomission job. Then there were the "refurb" consoles. They were not refurbished. Just sent to a warehouse and put in a box and shipped out. Not much testing other than does it turn on. So you can imagine how many systems got returned(this is also why we see so many systems opened up and have roaches inside..no testing_). For a while when PSPs were trades in many didn't check the memory stick slot and used PSPs got sold to kids with porn. At some point, we had to remove any media from a PSP or DS or whatever. I have much more GS is so anti-consumer and they know it and don't care. To me the thing that bothers me most these days is they throw out DS cases. We didn't do that back in the day but I hated when guides and merch were pennied out. Meant we had to destroy them.
Gotcha. You're still an asshole. Thanks for the reminder. Back on ignore you go.
Not every GameStop is evil. Not every mom and pop store is good. I don't know what I did to hurt your feelings, but your story is something that would have been heard ten, fifteen years ago. No one even says those kind of stories anymore. And people are sick of the generalization.
No. They don't give a shit what trolls on forums and YouTube comments say. I'm talking people on forums getting tired of hearing the same sob story over and over about GameStop fucking someone over and generalizing the company when it's just one store in particular and not every single one. Typically, a mixed reception. There's quite a bit that don't believe the stories and the other half does. It's not like every place is bad at handling things. Just gotta have pure luck that you have a store (any store, not just GameStop) that knows what its doing. I've never had any issues that others have complained about.
^ Yup. Not franchised at all. Stuff I described was a universal thing in the company. All those used consoles we sent out were sent out to a place in Texas. Gamestops have a region manager and echos corporate changes on new polices or things the stores will change and such. Not an individual store thing. Wasn't a sob story. Just things you learn working there. I was never mistreated really.,my personal stories are more amusing than sad with the exception of one but that isn't me but a customer.
If I have a bad experience in one shop, I tend to avoid the whole chain of shops and take my custom elsewhere. Reputation spread by word of mouth is a lot more damaging to companies than people think.
