Earthworm Jim. I can't seem to get past that second "Down the Tubes" level. It's not that I loose, I just turn off the Retrogen after my pod explodes a second or third time. It's so frustrating. Maybe I should try a better D-Pad, who knows?

One of the best. I still play that one today even though the graphics don't even compare to all the games today (or even games from the Dreamcast era). It just has the most satisfying control responsiveness I've experienced in any video game, and it has such a wide open and wild level design. And the music is great too. Hell, even the game over screen is legendary.
GAME OVER, YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm playing Phantasy Star II ^_^
Well hey, that makes two of us. I just started it up yesterday and have already devoted more hours to it than I should. Initially I was quite put off by some of the downgrades compared to the Master System version. The generic backdrop for the fighting screen pales in comparison with the backgrounds that would match whatever environment you were traversing in the original. The other problem is that not only are the backgrounds generic for the fights, but the enemies are too. In the original PS, if you walked on the shore, you'd face monsters from the ocean. If you walked in the forest, you'd get mystic tree dwellers. There is no strategic variety like that in this game.
The other big drawback is the lack of 3D mazes. Those things were absolutely beautiful on the original PS, and quite riling with that memorable music. These dungeons are far less interesting, dulled by the obvious and movement hindering piping that scales overtop of the characters.
What I am liking so far, though, is an improved battle system. I really like how it will auto fight for you if you let it. I think that's a great idea, especially considering the game forces you to do a lot of grinding in weaker or repetitive areas, so it works well to just hit C and then go and get a pop or something. The story is pretty good, too, with more NPCs that you can meet in the towns and so forth.
It's really annoying, though, every time you want to SAVE it not only asks you if you want to rewrite over the save you're currently playing (duh) but then it asks you what name you want to call the new save. I wish there was a function, like with most games, where you save and that's that. The Shining menus are a lot more intuitive, to say the least.
Still, already I'm warming to the game and after a lengthy stint of grinding while surfing this site, I'm ready to jump in full force.
Now I'm playing (Game Gear) Sonic Chaos! Just picked it up and started it but it seems surprisingly great! The first level is similar to Emerald Hill on the Genesis Sonic 2. Sonic has the spin dash of the Genesis games, and also a peel-out like in Sonic CD! You can choose to play as Tails and control his flight too. I always saw this game at the store, but never picked it up, because I was afraid it was one of the really BAD GG Sonic games -- like GG Sonic 2!!!
Sonic Chaos seems excellent, but the music is nowhere near as classic as GG Sonic 1! I can't wait to try out some more of the codes, like the one that apparently lets you throw fireballs!
LandStalker is really good. Picked up a loose cart for a couple bucks a few months ago, just started it yesterday. I'm having a lot of fun with it so far.
Yeah, solid game. Has a lot of personality. I played it after DARK SAVIOR on the Saturn, though, and compared to that though this game just seems so simple and limited. SAVIOR is definitely the most underrated game I've ever played, it's a shame Climax didn't do many more RPGs aside from those two, TIME STALKERS and the two early SHINING games on the Genny.
Best part about the game: how you can jump on top of the chicken and just ride around the village.
Ok I'm currently playing more of my genesis games :P
Right now I'm playing
Phantasy Star II
Sonic The Hedgehog
Sonic The Hedgehog 2
THats all :P
I've been playing the crap out of Megaman X collection, Megaman 8, and Megaman and Bass lately. I'm hoping to finally complete Megaman and Bass, but holy crap is this game ever hard.
I have Dark Savior too, but I've never played it (well, I threw it in my Saturn for five minutes to make sure it worked ok). Probably gonna jump on that one next, just so I can see how it stacks up. It's interesting that you prefer Dark Savior, as most reviews that I've read seem to be of the opinion that it is a lesser effort than LandStalker.
De Blob on Wii. So far it's not exactly what I was expecting, control-wise.
Let's just say it wouldn't make a believer out of 17days

I can't believe how much I love the battle system. Is XIII going back to the usual? If so, that's unfortunate.
Outside of Final Fantasy Tactics (which sprung from the mind of the same dude), that's absolutely my favorite Final Fantasy game. Damn the dialogue is just so fucking good, I love it. The battle system is awesome, I seriously have never found a standard RPG where I like grinding even half as much as in FFXII. It's a shame that the story kind of loses focus and steam about 3/4ths of the way through, and you can tell that Yasumi Matsuno had a lot of story ideas that couldn't be implemented due to time constraints (and then the whole debacle of him either leaving or being fired from Square-Enix, whichever it is), but still, even with all of these faults it is one of the very most highlights of the series.
I'm sure they'll regress on the battle system, which sucks. The more I hear about FFXIII, the more it sounds like par for the course. One of the reasons I really enjoy XII is due to how different it is from the rest of the series.
XII was juggled around halfway through development & the game kinda fails to remain compelling halfway through it.
The battle system will somewhat remain in 'a final fantasy XIII' Not sure which one though, "FF XIII" or "FF Versus XIII", two different games, more Squenix naming confusion shit.
FF XIV is going to be a MMORPG like XI. High hopes for that one.
Ehhh, maybe to you. As many problems as this game had, I still find it amazing. It is definitely a case of being more than the sum of its parts. I just wish Matsuno had been able to complete the story, I love the political intrigue and the deception that goes on in Arcadia, very Shakesperean (reminds me a lot of FFT & Vagrant Story as well, Matsuno's two prior games) but near the end it really fizzles out and you can tell that they had to rush things. But still, it's the most fun FF game to play. It's a flawed masterpiece, to be sure, but it's still a masterpiece.
