General Game Comment Thread. What are YOU Playing Today?

Played some more games:

The Simpsons: Hit & Run (PS2): Yesterday I finally got the Extra Game mode, and it's pretty much something like Atari Games' Sprint series, BadLands and Super Off-Road. Very good and fun when played by 2 people or more
The Warriors (PS2): Been playing it lately with my brother. Multiplayer is so much fucking fun in this game, especially in the Field Battle (or however the heck it's in the English version) and Army multiplayer modes. Lots of characters (once you've unlocked them, of course), excellent levels and overall a blast to play
The Yakyuken Special (Saturn): Yeah... it's one of those adult games for Sega's 32-bit wonder. Rock-paper-scissors meets 12 Japanese women (8 on the 3DO original) that don't look so nice (at least the 8 from the original 3DO version, which I never played. The Saturn got 4 more that look much better. Suckers)
Virtua Photo Studio (Saturn): Another one of those games, but this one's got a bit more depth than the previous one. Also, even though that there are only three women in this game, they look much better than the original 8 from The Yakyuken Special (quality over quantity, that's how it is). Unfortunately, the game might get hard thanks to someone who I call Captain Dumbass. It's some dude that's apparently a professional photographer, but he sucks. Not only that, every time you don't fill up the bar to the right by taking photos the way he fucking wants, you LOSE (good day sir!), and have to see a vid of Cap. Dumbass criticizing your pics. What's even worse is that sometimes the chicks (at least one of them) interrupts the photoshoot and starts asking you some shit that I don't know about. If you select the wrong answer(s), she tells you something, she leaves, and Dumbass gets pissed off at you. Game over. Still, even with those problems, it's a very nice game. Also, believe it or not, this game was published by Acclaim. 6 years before BMX XXX.

I is playing Battle Kid: Fortress of Peril. I'm kinda stuck on it at the moment. This here game be very very tricky, you gots be be perfect with your skillz.

Some Half Life 2 the other night... I'd give anything to see a wide open Non Linear RPG with this Universe.

Been playing a LOT of games recently, some which I haven't played in a long time

Dune II: The Building of a Dynasty (PC): A couple of months ago I played the Genesis port of this game (The Battle For Arrakis), and a couple of days ago I decided to try out the original PC version, and it's awesome, but what sucks about it is that when you build the concrete floors, instead of being 4 in 1, like in the Genesis port, it's only one. Still, it's very good
Command & Conquer Gold (PC, aka C&C For Windows 95): Tried out the original for the very first time (the other games in the series that I ever played were Red Alert 3 on the 360 and the PS1 port of Red Alert), and, like Dune II, it rules. Also, for some reason, the sound in the game (at least in my PC) sounds rather weird
Panzer General (PC): Basically a hex-based, turn-based strategy game, like the Daisenryaku series. Decent
Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike (PS2, from the SF Anniversary Collection): I got nothing to say about this one other that it is the best SF game ever made, alongside SF Alpha 3
Double Clutch (Genesis): Horrible. That's it. Except for the music, it's very good
The Lawnmower Man (Game Boy): I wasn't expecting this to be a high-quality port, but I didn't know it would be this HORRIBLE! Stick to the 16-bit versions
The Lost Vikings (Genesis): From the get-go, I knew that in this port you would have to do certain button combinations to execute the actions and stuff, like in the GBA port. And it's actually good! Still, I prefer the SNES original, but this ain't a bad one
AWS Pro Moves Soccer (Genesis): Meh, decent. But the music (especially the menu music) is awesome
Divine Sealing (Genesis): Yep. I could also beat this game, thanks to PGEN and it's score problem (the score count in EVERY GAME [and the time in Power Drive] has a little glitch in which the score raises more than it should)
Ahriboy: So Goooooood (Genesis, homebrew): Another adult game (:D), in the style of those graphic novels that are so popular in Japan. Unfortunately it's in French, but once you know when to choose the options (from left to right, a mouth, an eye, a hand and a penis PINGAS), it's not that hard
Payback (GBA): Awful, just awful. A terrible GTA clone with awful car control, pretty bad graphics and crappy gameplay. BUT, the music rocks. Y'know? I find it funny that terrible games have awesome music
Aerobiz Supersonic (Genesis): The only strategy/simulation/whatever game from KOEI that I can actually play without pretty much boring myself (because, as far as other KOEI games go, WinBack and Fatal Inertia are awesome). Been playing it recently with my brother, using a save state from PGEN that we had since 2008

Grand Theft Auto IV though I'm getting sick of it. For such a huge game it doesn't feel like the areas offer enough variety to me. It gets boring to look at for some reason :(

I've been playing Magic Knight Rayearth for Saturn this week (picked it up last weekend with a Saturn I bought). I've also been playing TopGear on SNES. Both games have been a blast so far.

I'll be playing some Assault Suit Leynos 2 for a while @_@

Torchlight - I have 3 characters all around level 25 now... and they are looking badass:!:

Washed down my 3+ hr session ^ last night with some Test Driving Unlimited.. was giving my fixed up Ford GT a run for it's money.

Got myself Batman: Arkham Asylum recently, looks very promising

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (Game Boy): Pretty decent platformer. Apparently this game's engine was re-used in The Flash for the same system, and that was published and developed by the same companies (THQ and Equilibrium, respectively). Even the logo screens (complete with the exact same sound) and title screen are the same!
The Flash (Game Boy): Unlike Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, this one sucks. Awkward controls and terrible AI
FIFA International Soccer (Game Boy): I wasn't expecting much, but this just sucks! The framerate is awful for a sports game
Rock 'n Roll Racing (Genesis): Been playing it again after so long, and I still love it!

Bioshock 2: I think I'm about two thirds through this one. It's fun simply because it is basically an expansion pack to the first game. If there was a reason other than a shameless cash-grab to make this game, however, I haven't seen it yet.

Castlenia Adventure Rebirth: Awesome. Surprisingly easy, though. I blew right through the first two levels without breaking a sweat.

Mega Man 10: Hey...it's Mega Man. Yep.

Virtua Fighter 2 - Pretty good fighter, though the weird moon's-gravity jumping is annoying.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Good game so far. I have yet to get through what seems to still be the tutorial. That is, shortly after you become a wolf-thing.

Winter Olympics: Lillehammer '94 (Genesis): Played it again after a long time, and it wasn't as bad as I said it was in this same thread (see quote below)

WildSnake (Genesis, unreleased): Very unique puzzle game. Unfortunately, it wasn't released, the only version that was released AFAIK is the Game Boy version (and, after checking on MobyGames, the goddamn SNES also got it. Nintendo, you buncha fuckers)
Olympic Summer Games: Atlanta 1996 (Genesis): A beloved Olympics game from my childhood, these days it's IMPOSSIBLE to play almost ALL of the events. When I was about 6 or 7, me, my brother and my cousin (who had the game) could play the Javelin Throw event almost flawlessly. These days, we can't even throw it without being disqualified! Damn you, Tiertex!
James Bond 007: The Duel (Genesis): One of the best games of the double-oh-seven for me, alongside GoldenEye, Everything or Nothing, From Russia With Love, and, nostalgically, all three of his games on the PS1 (007 Racing, Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough)
WildSnake (Game Boy): Still the same, but with the kind of downgrades you'd expect on Game Boy (graphics, sound and color)
Thunderbirds (Game Boy): A Japanese exclusive Thunderbirds game? Seriously, with this and Sgt. Saunders' Combat! for the SFC (which apparently was going to be released in the States by Activision), it makes you wonder why were the Japanese developing and releasing games based on old American and British shows exclusive to their country. Unfortunately, IT DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY (at least on the GB emu for the PS2 InfoGB and VisualBoyAdvance). From what I got to play (a shmup-style stage using the Thunderbird 3), it's AWFUL

Finally made it through the first level of Dark Void Zero (available for download from DSiWare).

Whoa, did you just buy it or something? I love that game, but I wish it had more replay value. I think I got it the day it came out, and played the living hell out of it. Enjoy it while it lasts, it goes by really quick.

No, I bought it shortly after it came out, played until the first boss, and then put it on the backburner while I bought some more games. I've been meaning to come back to it, and I imagine I'll eventually even finish it (in fits and starts).

DSiWare seems to have gotten good faster than WiiWare did. I've already downloaded a buttload of games, and I enjoy them all (except that damn Castle of Magic).

It's a pretty neat game. It seems more like a Gameboy game to me for some reason though.

Yeah, I can say I'm actually pretty pleased with DSiWare so far. How about those Shantae titles that are coming out at some time? They look really awesome. Those are going to be a day 1 purchase for me.

Streets of Rage 2 (Genesis): Been playing it again after a long time (read: about a month after playing it for the last time on the Sonic Gems Collection), and it's still a fantastic beat-'em-up with an amazing soundtrack (Yuzo Koshiro :ok: ). Fucking awesome
Thunderbirds: International Rescue (Game Boy Advance): After the huge dissapointment that was Thunderbirds on the original Game Boy, I decided to try this one out. And man, it's much better. First of all, in this game, instead of being limited only to the Thunderbirds 1 through 3, in this one not only you get to use the 4 Thunderbirds (the fifth one, the space station, can't be used), you also get to use both F.A.B. vehicles (the car and the boat) and the "Mole". The Thunderbird 1 stages play something like Scramble: you gotta bomb stuff (like radar dishes) and shoot fuel canisters to replenish your life. The Thunderbird 2 stages are something like the Strike games, Red Zone or a top-down version of Choplifter: you have to rescue hostages and blow whatever comes to you. The Thunderbird 3 stages are a bit dissapointing: it's like Space Harrier or any game like it, but pretty boring. You have to pick up some plasma pods while avoiding red (destructible) and yellow (INDESTRUCTIBLE!) "balloons". In Thunderbird 4's stages you have to pick up a certain item and go to the Tracy family's boat and deliver it. The F.A.B. stages are basically Spy Hunter. In the "Mole" stages you have to destroy some stuff underground, like oil pumps. And, the worst in the entire game, the stages on-foot are fucking atrocious. Still, it's a really awesome game, much better than the 2007 game for the PS2 (which I never played, but from what I saw, it's shit)
Driver 2 Advance (GBA): Meh, decent, Driver 3 on this system is a much better game
Drome Racers (GBA): I heard that this was a really good racing game on the system, and it was! Pretty good graphics and spot-on gameplay
Blockbusters (GBA, homebrew): Pretty good Arkanoid clone for the system, and the title music (the Ghostbusters theme, actually) was awesomely done (in the style of Commodore 64 music)

Been re-playing both Sonic compilations (Mega Collection Plus and Gems Collection)

Sonic Blast (PS2, from SMC+): Dear lord, they saved the worst for last regarding Sonic's Game Gear entries. The graphics are rather crappy, the bosses are real easy, the gameplay isn't so good (and it's slightly glitchy) and the bonus stages are both boring and awful
Sonic the Hedgehog in Triple Trouble (PS2, from Gems Collection): Decent, a good one, but Sonic Chaos is better in my opinion
Sonic Chaos (PS2, from SMC+): This is it, this is the absolute BEST Sonic game on the Game Gear. Really fun, with very good stages, classic Sonic gameplay, and, unlike Triple Trouble, lacks any kind of flicker and slowdown. Also, the bonus stages are awesome, especially the huge rings, which can give you plenty of lives. Overall, one of the best handheld Sonics (alongside Pocket Adventure and all three Advance games)
Sonic Drift 2 (PS2, from Gems Collection): Before I really didn't like this game, but now I think it's really fun and good. Thank god this one DID leave Japan
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Game Gear (PS2, from Gems Collection): I prefer the Master System version to this one, mostly because of the screen resolution, because with the GG's resolution, the first boss is almost IMPOSSIBLE
Sonic the Hedgehog Game Gear (PS2, from SMC+): Pretty good, although the way you earn emeralds (finding it in hidden spots) is rather odd
Sonic Labyrinth (PS2, from SMC+): For some reason, I kinda like this game. Once you get past the fact that Sonic can't run because he apparently has Robotnik's shoes, it's rather fun
Sonic Spinball (PS2, from SMC+): Unlike the awful Game Gear/Master System version, this one ROCKS! Especially stage 1's music (Howard Drossin FTW)
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (PS2, from SMC+): It's Puyo Puyo, what can I say? Except that, since this one's based on the first one, you can't cancel whatever the opponent's sending to you (added in Puyo Puyo 2/Tsuu). Still, it's classic Puyo Puyo (SONIC TEAM WTF DID YOU DO TO ARLE IN PUYO PUYO 7?), and you can kick PINGAS Robotnik's ass! In a game of Puyo Puyo! How kickass is that?

Also, regarding Mega Collection Plus, it would have been awesome that they included the same commercials and videos from Sonic Jam, plus American and maybe European commercials as well. Seriously, I want some FUNKY ACTION (SONIC SPINBALL JP COMMERCIAL BABY!) in my PS2

Been trying out and playing several GBA games (three which I haven't played in a long time)

Advance Guardian Heroes: Pretty decent, and fun as hell, but the translation is ATROCIOUS. Ubisoft, after the very good translation of Lunar Legend you did, what the fuck happened with this one? Oh wait, this translation was done by a Japanese (hired by Ubisoft, I think), unlike Lunar Legend's translation which was done by someone at Ubisoft (or someone they hired, I don't know)
Asterix & Obelix: Bash Them All!: This includes two games: Asterix & Obelix, which is a port of the SNES game of the same name, and Asterix & Cleopatra, a game exclusive for the compilation. Here are my opinions on both:
-Asterix & Obelix: Very good platformer, much better than Asterix in The Great Rescue. One of the best Asterix games alongside the Master System game, Asterix and The Power of the Gods and Asterix & Obelix: XXL on the GBA (aka Asterix & Obelix: Kick Buttix in the US)
-Asterix & Cleopatra: Meh, decent. Instead of a platformer, you get a beat-'em-up (like Konami did on the arcades). It's just pretty repetitive
Asterix & Obelix: XXL: An excellent attempt at a 3D platformer on the handheld. The game looks excellent (it uses the same engine that was used on the GBA Driv3r), and has some good and challenging gameplay. Also, unlike every previous Asterix game, you can switch between Asterix and Obelix on-the-fly with the press of a button, because while Asterix has a double jump, Obelix can pull or push giant blocks. In conclusion, it's excellent
Cartoon Network Block Party: A board game with some old-school CN characters. 'Nuff said
Big Mutha Truckers: It's a good game, something like Eighteen Wheeler
Corvette: HORRENDOUS. When I first started playing it, I knew there was something familiar about this game, and it was that it uses the same engine and stuff that was later used for Ford Racing 3, which sucked balls! Stay far, FAR away from this
CT Special Forces: I'm a huge fan of CT Special Forces 3, so I decided to try out the first and the second games. This one is passable, and it has something the sequels lack: items, like rappels and handcuffs, which probably were included in the 2005 CT Special Forces game for the PS2 and PC
CT Special Forces 2: Back to the Trenches: Ok, this is the best game in the series, it just surpassed the third for me. First of all, you can ride vehicles (which I don't know if you could on the third one) and the game starts with you controlling a combat heli (unlike the third in which you had to use a parachute at the beginning). I recommend it, it's that awesome
Dual Blades: From Vivid Image (First Samurai, Second Samurai, Street Racer) comes this Samurai Shodown rip-off which is pretty shitty. And, oddly enough, they didn't include at least ONE character from First Samurai (even though one of them looks like the main character of that game), which is something I was expecting
Extreme Ghostbusters: Code Ecto-1: Crap. Like the show which this is based on
F-14 Tomcat: Oh my god, this game is awful! Crappy graphics and pretty bad gameplay, but the music's awesome
Guilty Gear X: Advance Edition: It's a nice game, passable, not as good as the GBA versions of Super SF2 Turbo or SF Alpha 3 but definitely much better than MK Advance or KOF EX2
Inspector Gadget Racing: Published by LSP, the same folks who did the CT Special Forces games, and developed by Bit Managers, the same guys who did Bomb Jack (GB), Radikal Bikers (PS1. GET OUT OF MY WAY, I'M RADIKAL BIKER. GET OUT OF MY WAY, I'M RADIKAL MAN. That's how it says on the lyrics, it's true), A&O: Bash Them All! and several MSX and Spectrum games, this is a very bad racing game. Well, the same can be said about almost all of the millions of racing games on SNES and GBA that used Mode-7
M&M's Break 'em!: Completely late GBA cash-in, because this is Gem Smashers (fantastic game, BTW) but with all 5 M&M's (Gem Smashers and its Japanese version, featuring the Pazunin from Cho Aniki, had 3 characters). Still, it's awesome, even though it's a cheap cash-in. Destination Software, you bastards
Muppet Pinball Mayhem: Very good pinball game, much better than Pac-Man Pinball Advance, but still not on par with Pinball of the Dead and Super Pinball II
NASCAR Heat 2002: I was expecting Mode-7 or anything like that for this game, but it's in the style of awesomeness like Power Drive or Pro-AM, but the way the car takes the curves is AWFUL: it fucking CRAWLS. Still, it ain't super boring NASCAR (like EA's games), it has only a few oval courses, instead it has more normal circuits
Super Monkey Ball Jr.: Excellent, excellent, fucking EXCELLENT! This is one of the GBA's best games in my opinion
Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis: It's abysmal. Everybody knows it

After completing Mass Effect 2's primary quest, I'm happy and smug knowing that my Shepard might be some revered space-opera hero who'd painstakingly save every single one of the orphans from their burning orphanage and STILL find time to go and blast some Blood Pack mercs with his Space Bros Garrus and Jacob, but all the same he's quietly had a booty-call button installed in his cabin.

Premier Manager 2005-2006: Why did I decide to play this game? There's load times EVERYWHERE! In a cart! But, then again, certain SNES (Mickey Mania, Batman Forever) and GBA (Crazy Taxi: Catch a Ride) games have load times
Racing Gears Advance: Many critics praised this game, saying that it was the GBA's best racer, and I agree with them. Instead of being Mode-7 crap, it's a semi top-down racer, in the style of Power Drive, Pro-Am and Neo Drift Out (NEOGEO! NEOGEO!), but with weapons and items, like oil slicks, missiles, turbos and other stuff. The music is awesome, the graphics are very good and the gameplay is fast and responsive
Rayman Advance: The very first time I play a Rayman game, and it's with a port of the original. And it's just excellent. Very good and detailed graphics, superb animation (especially Rayman's) and classic gameplay
Rayman 3: Rayman Advance was fantastic. This one... not so much. Especially in the graphic department. Unlike the original, this one has some washed-up and slightly grainy graphics, but the gameplay is still great
Rayman: Hoodlum's Revenge: I thought this one wasn't going to be so good, since games where you mostly have to jump to platforms or avoid spikes (whether it's an action game or a platformer) sometimes aren't so good (Army Men: Turf Wars, for example), but this one is excellent! Much better than Rayman 3 in my opinion
Racing Fever: From the creators of the Gekido games comes this so-so racing game (as if the title didn't clarify it). Like Racing Gears Advance, but with bigger sprites, no weapons and not so good gameplay
Samurai Deeper Kyo: The very last GBA game released in the States that isn't one of those [insert number]-in-1 carts from THQ (the Columns Crown and ChuChu Rocket multicart was apparently released in November 28, 2008!), it was released in 2008. It's a hack-'n-slash, and a very good one at that. The gameplay, while slightly repetitive, is fun, mostly because you get to slice up bad guys with some demon sword (the Muramasa). Also, the game has some pretty nice graphical tricks for the system
ChuChu Rocket: I thought this one was going to be pretty hard, but it's rather easy to play, and it's fun too!

Completed Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on hard, I love the story behind both bad company games but the single player is so damn short, completed it 3 days after I brought it, ah well I'm sure it will provide much fun online :)

Game Gear Outrun Europa is awesome. Has to be one of the best GG games I've ever seen. You start on a motorcycle, racing through traffic, punching other bikers and cars (including cops), and making them blow up. I've only played Outrun games in the arcades, and only with the red convertible and blond babe. This is a whole different experience, at least the 1st board is, cuz I haven't beaten it yet. The cops always nab me at the end. The sides of the road have repetitive but huge houses and buildings that fly by you. It's all very fast and impressive.

Also recently played the Genesis Williams Arcade Collection, so I played Sinistar for the 1st time since I was a little kid at Chuck E. Cheese. AWESOME.

I tried out Mystic Defender: nice graphics but it's hard as hell. When I 1st started it up, the whole game was glitched so that there were no enemies in any of the stages!

Oh yeah I also got Roadblasters and this game is extremely solid, fun, and nostalgic.

Inspector Gadget: Advance Mission (Game Boy Advance): I wasn't expecting this to be a good game, since it came from the same three companies involved with Extreme Ghostbusters - Code: Ecto-1 (DreamCatcher, LSP and Magic Pockets), which, if you remember one of my previous posts, was crappy. But, to my surprise, it's actually a pretty fun and enjoyable platformer! What's good about the game is that all three characters have different abilities: Gadget can plant dynamites, Penny (or Sophie if you're from France or Spain. Thank you, Inspector Gadget Racing! :ok:) can go underwater and Brain can double jump and use a penguin disguise. What sucks about the game, though, is the music. It's awful and repetitive. Still, the game's good
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (GOTY Edition) (Xbox 360): A couple of hours ago I was playing it with my brother and two cousins in split-screen multiplayer. And MAN, it was a BLAST! It's really awesome in multiplayer
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas (Xbox 360): I have Vegas 2, but since one of my cousins brought the first, we decided to play that one. And I suck at it, I'm not so good on these tactical shooters. Still, it's a pretty good game
Midnight Club: Los Angeles (Xbox 360): Me and my brother LOVED Midnight Club 3 on the PS2, so when we saw that our cousin brought this one, we decided to play it. And it's motherfreakin' JAWUSUM. Awesome graphics, excellent soundtrack, very good gameplay and fun as hell. Recommended for those who like awesome arcade-style racers

Can't seem to pull myself away from Virtua Fighter 5 on 360.

Darn it! Shinobi is too hard for it's own good. :mad: I love a hard game, I seek the challenge, it's just that I thought this would've been an easier, more casual style of gameplay; considering it being a tap-tap-tap style of gameplay. Now I'm halfway, so might as well continue on. Wish me luck.

As for Sonic 2 on the Game Gear: I've decided to beat it one level at a time for now. Man o' man is it hard. And yet, I loooooove it. My kind of game. If this is supposed to be the worse platforming sonic title on the GG, then I can't wait to get my hands on the other ones. :D

As for Sonic 2 on the Game Gear: I've decided to beat it one level at a time for now. Man o' man is it hard. And yet, I loooooove it. My kind of game. If this is supposed to be the worse platforming sonic title on the GG, then I can't wait to get my hands on the other ones. :D
