Phantasy 'why don't you waste more of my time' II (1990)

There's just no starting this game on the right foot, is there? Wish I hadn't of lost my save file of first attempt a few months ago, starting another playthrough seems to be highlighing more issues. And that it's quite a slog.
Recall first time through a few months back that it took me awhile to figure out how to acquire new members, which really hampered progress early on. Somehow I'd forgotten about that again because that guy early on guarding that bridge is who I again assumed to be my third character (looks just like him). Cutscene happened and nope, not him, could have had third party member much earlier on. At least this time it came back to me that it's arriving at a new town that makes new party members appear at your house for hire (unlike last time which much longer and didn't have a 4th character for quite some time).
So currently arrived at this new place after acquiring 4th character and slog through a dungeon, slog, slog... aha, a door. "Need dynamite" Don't tell me I missed a third dynamite in the first dungeon because this game discourages exploration through constant out of the way dead ends and camera movement that don't budge until the edge of screen. Smh. Well, I'm super leveled up (lvl.10) compared to first time I've been there, should be able to instant run from all enemies in that dungeon, right? Nope. Slog, slog, slog... almost at the end of that first dungeon, but then had an epiphany "What if this game is trolling me and there is no 3rd dynamite in that first dungeon? Better look online to be safe and keep my marbles intact." Well, just finished looking online and guess what? ...

Saving the galaxy from work one system at a time.
Not sure I can continue with this game, have reached the dam missions and it's basically at a point I've foreseen. Now have to mirco manage the battles instead of brute force auto battling through everything and this game's menu system for battles is nothing short of a drag. Think I gave it a good enough shot and should just skim through a YouTube lets play video to get the gist of it and move onto Phantasy Star III.
From what I've played of PSII, Dragon Warrior 1 for NES is better and better paced.
I've been really eager to play Phanasy Star 2 again but I've been waiting for the fan translation of the Sega Ages 2500 version to be ready for play on the Sony PS2... but there is still a serious bug where the game will freeze when you get a random item drop after combat.
I might have to give up on that dream and head back to the Genesis for my Phanasy Star 2 fix.
*This same fan translation works via emulation.
I also want to play a Phantasy Start II. I love to death IV) So if Ps2 version is broken, then I guess I should look for that "fixed" version, as the random combat is too much for me in that game. Also I would love if someone can "fix" the horrible flickering when you or enemy makes a damage. It looks so bad :(
On topic, I just started Super Hydlide again, meanwhile a Saturn is coming! ^^
Super Lucky's Tale. Solid platformer.
For weeks now I've been Beta testing Tanglewood on real hardware with a flash cart. (Tanglewoodgame.com).
And it's a truly great game. I highly recommend it. Anyone still playing retro games should pre-order this gem. I have completed it many times now and it's a real joy.
I have no connection to Tanglewood other than I was lucky enough to get in on the Beta testing. (I begged and pleaded)
Currently replaying Front Mission 3 and doing a few matches of the FIFA 18 world cup mode.
The Lost Child
A budget Shin Megami Tensei game. I'm enjoying it but wish it had a better budget as the dungeon textures are literal early PS2 era. Sure this is also on Vita not just PS4 and Switch but Vita can do better. Music is great. The voice acting is good. Has somegood depth to it. All first person view.
My PS4 is getting all the playtime ATM. Still pushing score further in Raiden V, learning the second bonus mission boss to get as many resources as possible for the last stages. Caladrius Blaze and DariusBurst CS arcade mode are getting plenty of attention too.
Still PS4 but non-STG: Learning how to play WindJammers in a way that doesn't totally suck. Definitely getting better there.
So the game I am playing The Lost Child is a spin-off sequel of El Shaddai and one of the first characters or Astrals to fight in your party is Enoch. I didn't even realize until I just read about it. So for the very few who are a fan of El Shaddai, here is the followup.
El Shaddai is an action game but The Lost Child is a dungeon crawler in the same vein as SMT.

Done with this game, just not feeling it. Made it as far as the 5th stage boss and calling it quits.
Wolfenstein II on Switch. Panic Button did a great job. I you can handle 30FPS the game plays well and looks good considering the hardware. Looks better than the Doom port.
Danmaku Unlimited 3.So far the OST is outstanding
Was playing Battlefield 1 campaign mode and decided to start it up again and now my save is gone. What the hell is that? Putting this shit down now. EA is no good.
Assault Gunners HD Edition. Not bad for a $10 Armored Core wannabe. Has fewer options than an AC game but it's pretty fun. The only issue is it uses B to confirm. Not A. Took me longer to figure that out than I want to admit.
HYPER DUEL
Rocket League all day every day. Shining Resonance Refrain comes in Tuesday, so I'll be playing that soon, I suppose.
Just finished Nier: Automata (A B C D... and some others), finally beat Super SFII Turbo as I work through the 30th SF Anniversary collection, and am halfway through Super Bomberman R. Nier is ridiculously overrated on-line and takes far too long to become worth the time playing... but I'm glad I played it. I should have passed on Digital Eclipse's SF collection, but I wanted Third Strike on my Xbox One. Bomberman... is OK I guess. At least it was cheap.
Shining Refrain on NSW.
Also played an hour of CodeMirai to give my PS4 some playtime. Been a while since I have.
Man, this year seems like I only play on NS. Last year it was the same way with PS4. Just so many releases. My PS4 will thankfully be getting some love next month with Yakuza Kiwami 2 and in Sep/October be a bloodbath of games for both.
Only played up to Battery zone in Sonic Mania. Eh. Not feeling this game. Bosses are awful. I hate they put Chemical Plant in. Always despised that stage. Music is good but not blowing me away. Just feels like Sonic CD 2 with mixed results esp in level design. So far this game is ugh.I can do without it. Maybe warm up to it the more I play but it's not living up to the hype.
A few actually; Looney Tunes Collector and Scooby Doo Classic Creep Capers on Game Boy Color, and Link to the Past on SNES :)
I played Space Invaders Frenzy yesterday whilst on my hols. As with the usual title I got to level three. I really liked it, it's a fun shooter.
There's a cab on eBay for £10k. My wife wouldn't let me buy it. She's just so massively unreasonable.
Brought my Gameboy on vacation. Playing F1 Race at the moment. It's a surprisingly fun and well done racer.

Those other two games are solid, too.
So... Anyone else pick up Tempest 4000? I'm not crazy in thinking it's painfully slow (and more challenging) than Tempest 2000, right? Not enjoying it as much as I'd hope considering how much I loved the original update. Ship movement and default fire rate is sluggish, and the enemies and ships look messy and fat to me. Background effects look like a step down, too, but I haven't made it far enough yet to feel justified with that thought.
Octopath Traveler.
Got Sonic Adventure DX on Steam sale last week and started playing it finally. As much as I love the visuals, music, design - the controls and camera are just as bad as everyone has been saying, and there's been lots of frustrated wandering around. Still, I'm enjoying it, with caveats.
Best RPG released this year with an outstanding OST. Might be the best game that will release on the system this year. Combat is great and messing with the party combos is fun. The job system is great as it stacks on your previous skills and you can change them out anytime you want. While each character has their own story and not an overarching one for all. You can still experience everyone and the great thing is you get to choose who you want to start with. I like tanks in RPGs so I went with Obleric and worked my way counter clockwise to get my party. I like the thief in towns to steal peoples shit. Saves me a lot of money. Tressa is great to have to collect a lot of money. The game is really addictive. You can play it in short spurts despite being 80+ hours of content. Only 2 games have run my pro controller battery dry in one week. This and Xenoblade 2. That's 40 hours of battery. I don't know if I can finish it within the next couple months as I have a lot more games coming in.
My neighbor expressed an interest in playing some old video games. So today I sat him down and we played:
Streets of Rage
Golden Axe
Gunstar Heroes
Ghouls 'n Ghosts
Vapor Trail
He has better stamina then I expected. It was a fun gaming session.
I been playing two games as of late, Unreal Gold for pc and True Lies on the genesis. Unreal Gold is pretty great old fps with a really nice atmosphere and great sound, especially with 3d sound enable with either good speakers or headphones. True Lies on the genesis is really fun, but flaw movie game with solid shooting action and so-so level and sound design. Still the best movie game published by Acclaim and developed by Beam Software on the genesis.

EVERY DAY
Titan Quest is quite fun little Diablo clone. My experience has been sullied a little by some bugs and crashes. I think the game needs some balancing fixes on enemies on screen, damage output and their levels. Still I am enjoying it.
Finally got my girlfriend to play games, so the past couple of days it's been Overcooked and Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime. Enjoying them more than I expected, and thankfully she's doing better than I thought she would (though the analog stick is still awkward for her).
Beyond that, still working through Shining Resonance Refrain (which is meh), Super Bomberman R (meh), and Rocket League.
We Happy Few
The game caught my attention when it was announced back in '15 or so and for the price I could not pass it up.
How is it? Reviews have not been kind and TBH it didn't look good in streams.
The word escapes me ATM but it has a lot of pop in or what ever it is called when buildings and such just appear in front of you. FPS? If it is anywhere near 30 I'll eat my hat. The game play is fun. The exploration is rewarding but nothing too great yet although I am in the wee early stages. The story has me awfully curious since it has to do with an alternate WWII. Hearing Englishmen curse at each other is hysterical.
