After finishing The Last of Us Part II and then Days Gone I needed a retro fix.
I'm currently playing Wonder Boy in Monster Land and I'm loving it. I don't know why it has taken me so long to give it a serious play.
I'm currently in the Labyrinth/Castle; and I love seeing the labyrinth return. The game is throwing lots of Legendary Gear at me so I feel like I'm getting close to the end.
This week, it's still been me slogging through Yakuza 0 (I like it a lot, but it does have a grind to it in places), and playing Astro Warrior for this week's review for the channel.

So, believe it or not, I had never played the Genesis port of Mortal Kombat before. I just wasn't a MK guy back in the day, as I didn't like the whole block button as opposed to holding back situation. But decided it was time to dust it off and give it a look this week, and I actually had a lot of fun with it. Also, the music is pretty great, better than the SNES version for sure.

Oh, and I'm still crawling toward the finish line in Yakuza 0. But getting closer, I think I've done just about all the side stuff I'm going to do. I'm not going to waste time playing those Japanese card games or Mahjong. It's cool they included that stuff, but I'm already at almost 100 hours, it's just too much.
I finally finished Yakuza 0 the other day. Only got about 90 Percent complete, but that last 10 percent just isn't happening. It's mainly some of the harder rhythm games, plus Mahjong and the Japanese gambling games, the rhythm seems too difficult for me to pull off, and I just have no interest in spending the time on the other stuff, especially after 120 hours. Jumped straight into Yakuza Kiwami, and played it for a few hours, but I think I need a break since the games are so similar.
In the meantime, I spared everyone a post about my Art Alive review, and instead will skip it and link my review of Rocky instead.

Through a 5 day vacation marred by sinus infection/sinusitis, and tons of sleep because of it, put a little time into Magical Taruruto-kun for the MD. I love that game, it's colorful, fun, and a great cheer you up game when you aren't feeling well. First time I really put into it since I bought a copy earlier this year.
Just finished a Master System game for the first time, Master of Darkness.
Aside from the cheap difficulty, it's a great game. I'd die for an official or spiritual remake.
"Oh but that's just Castlevania!"...Yeah the gameplay is. But not the Victorian England setting, and the main character being a "normal human" has dragged me into it.
Now I guess I'm gonna try out Hades on Steam.

Yakuza Like a Dragon PS4. In Chapter 10 now. I earned the SEGA soundtrack CDs from Rent a Hero,NiGHTS,Persona and such. Mainly listen to Persona 5 when in the bar. Seems fitting. Liking the game more than I thought but still have some issues. I still much prefer Y0 or Judgment. I do like the Dragon Quest talk through the game.
I'm slightly ahead of you at Chapter 13. I love Like a Dragon so far. It easily stands with the other mainline Yakuzas. Judgment, 0, and 2 are my favorites, but really I love them all.Quote:

Balan demo. I have to agree with the internet masses on this. It's fucking terrible. TA is the only person who seems to like it. Everyone else is shitting on this thing and for good reason. Controls suck. Mechanics suck. Ugly game. It's straight fucking trash.

I've been playing Gothic 1. Currently in chapter 4. I've completed before many years ago and it's just brilliant.
I'm totally into it and I can't believe it was release in 2001.
Replayed Little Nightmares on PS4. Can't wait for part II to unlock tomorrow (or midnight).
After playing Silent Hill 1-3, I'm just not feeling 4. There's nothing that entices me to continue playing.
4 is where the series died for many. You're not alone.
I've been playing Vampire: Master of Darkness for Game Gear. Apparently it received a Master System release in some non-North American markets without the "Vampire" in the title. This game is great, and I'm really into it.
On the surface, it's clearly heavily influenced by the Castlevania series, but the weapon system is wholly unique and because each weapon has different range and power, choosing which one to pick up and use in certain areas of the game is an important strategy in and of itself.
The overall atmosphere is like a classic Universal or Hammer horror movie with an elaborate Victorian-era horror motif and an excellent moody chip tune score that really accentuates the mood. It's well worth checking out if you're into the Castlevania style platformers of that era.

A good buddy told me to start playing Gunstar Heroes after he played though it and loved it. He wanted me to beat it so we could discuss it.
I've had it for years but for whatever reason I never stuck with it for long.
Yesterday I plugged it in, set it to easy and just played through the whole game.
There was still enough challenge to make me work for it and it was a fun ride. The game is so much longer than I expected and it does a lot of cool things.
I can see why it's gets so much love.
I played and finished Radiant Silvergun on Saturn while listening to the Bari Arm OST on my old Phillips portable CD player. It was fucking awesome!
Playing a lot of Super Mario Bros. 2 FDS/Lost Levels on the wii. Amazing game. I think it’s the best 2D mario!
Aleste on Master System via M2's superlative Aleste Collection on Switch. Specifically the challenge mode which basically forces you to no-miss a stage or boss (or both) to gain a trophy, which is worth points that count towards your position on the online leaderboard.
The original scoring for these games is broken in a competitive sense, so this was a cool way to get around that.
After TA's glowing recommendations over the years, I had always wanted to try Panzer Dragoon Orta, especially since I loved the Saturn entries. I just never had the interest to actually buy an Xbox (1/One/OG/2001?).

I wanted to try it, and it works great! 60 FPS, and everything looks like it's running correctly. I'm LOVING Orta so far! Good call TA!
The Xbox 360 can run a lot of the OG Xbox titles. I ran DOA Ultimate today, on my 360 Elite, that I'd recently replaced the thermal paste on. It runs in widescreen 720p, without a hitch.
Never had a 360 either, or any other kind of Xbox!
It just never had enough games to appeal to me. I always wanted to get one for PDO, but now it seems there is no need. I could be missing out, but I have a great PC these days so I can play a lot of the big hits from back then with ports anyway.
360 is a great system. Maybe the best of its generation.
I had a PS3 from launch. The exclusives made the choice easy for me. The ports were not great sometimes, but even they were 80-90% of the way there.
The OG Xbox is one of the best gaming systems ever. Still, the system that got the best out of SEGA since they become 3rd party IMO and a system that felt so much like a DC2. I remember all us on the Dreamcast Technical Pages fell in love with the XBox, which EDGE didn't quite like LOL JSRF, Orta, Sega GT 2002 and House of the Dead 3 are incredible with Sega GT 2002 being the best home racer SEGA ever made. Orta is so awesome on the Series X too with its One X BC 4K upgrade still intact, but now on the Series it has HDR added too. You'll not believe how good Daytona USA and Orta now look in HDR running in BC on the Series X. Hoping MS bring more OG Xbox titles to its BC programmeQuote:

I played a fuck ton of Genesis games on the PS4 collection. Played some Saturn games these past couple of days. Soukyugurentai, Hyper Duel, and Radiant Silvergun. I played a little of the Saturn Tribute on Switch. Some of the remakes of Asha in Monster World. I finished Gleylancer on Switch. Played some 18 Wheeler on DC. House of the Dead 2 on DC but only with the controller. Some Crazy Taxi. DOA 2 and SC. I plan to play Zombie Revenge later today when I wake up. Finally, I played some games on the TG16 Mini.
Normally these remaster/remake games that are all the rage fall flat for me, and I generally prefer the originals. But this Panzer Dragoon remake is really effing good. I've been playing the crap out of it this week.

On the Mega Drive front, Darius Extra and Paprium on Very Hard
Never played a Hitman game before but did watch Giant Bomb play a lot of it. I tried Hitman 2 and eh it's just not for me. It does seem like a game more fun with a group as when things go wrong it's pretty funny.
Crysis Trilogy. I never played the series before but after so many RPGs the last few months. I needed some FPS sci-fi fun. I didn't expect this much stealth but having fun so far despite some frustrations.
Radirgy Swag on the Illvello Swamp double pack. Yes, I held out this long for the physical, and yes, I should cancel my Dispatch Games order I suppose.

G-Darius HD courtesy of Cosmic Revelation. It's a revelation in itself to be able to play the game without jittering textures. Of course, being an M2 production, you can always play that way too if you feel so inclined.
I very recently beat Ghouls 'n Ghosts on the Genesis. On Game Sacks recommendation I did it on Professional setting. I noticed the biggest differences from the Professional setting on level 1 and 2.
Took me a little under three hours to beat both loops. With check points and unlimited continues it was a real joy to play.
