Retro Duo System plays NES and SNES games

I recently found out about a new NES/SNES clone. Now, I've owned one of those in the past, but got rid of it because it can't play Duck Hunt and the NES sound sounded off. However, this one has improved sound and even plays Japan games! I could finally play Mario and Wario!

Now, I'm thinking of getting one for my friend, since he is a big Nintendo fan and its cheap at $50. There also making an SNES to NES controller adapter so I could play Duck Hunt on it.

So, untill that adapter comes out, I'll keep playing on the original consoles.

I saw one of these that was a combination genesis/nes. Isn't that crazy? Nintendo and sega inside one plastic shell... together.

Its like all those rumors that Game Pro and Egm used to circulate years ago that their was going to be an all in one system that of course never came out.

Well do not get a clone for playing of any Famicom or if so any other system unless it is a official developer in electronic products ( not just brand names ).
Famiclones can run on batteries, be made of cheap bendable and non heat resistant plastics, and tends to cap out after extrenal use. It is better to get a NTSC official or reconizable electronics maker system.

Some Famiclones will catch a fire and even be made of toxic material. So buying them is for personal use. However newer systems like the combo's made with higher quality then official clones might be your best bet.

However famicoms along with other systems have special chips and will not be as profciant as a well taken care of system that should be on lock down and for 24/7 like a arcade machine.

Using a famiclone ( or any other ) is like using a candle to light your path down a dark and long road. It can only be used a short time so it is better to get the Oil lantern with high nigh oil.

Yeah, thats OTHER ones though. This one is fully compadible with games that have special chips.

Acording to other users, they have yet to find a game that isn't compadible with this...except Duck Hunt because this system uses SNES pin out, thous making the NES gun incompadible.

However, there are working on a SNES TO NES adapter, so theres nothing to worry about.

So Regalsin is right about other famiclones. But you can trust this one.

I've never heard of a famiclone catching fire before, and I searched exhaustively for one case before I bought mine and never found one, not even a hokey flame-style accusation of one happening. I own a Yobo FC Game Console and an FC Twin and both have never failed in any way, except one of my 3rd party controllers didn't work, but that plug is kinda sketchy, it sounds like its about to break my real SNES when I put it in, so its not really fair to blame that on the FC Twin. Both the included controllers and the real NES and SNES controllers have all worked flawlessly without any failure. I've heard of a few cases where the FC Twin had controller issues, but I think those were all with the unbranded version before the official Yobo branded ones came out (which are definitely hardware revisions because problems like color muting and a green sky in star fox were corrected, as were incompatibilites with Mario RPG and others). Still, from what I hear the Retro Duo is superior and since it costs the same, its the way to go. However, if you get a good deal on an FC Twin, its certainly solid and the only real problem I've noticed is some instruments being muffled on some games, especially some konami games. Also, the Retro Duo is compatible with Castlevania III, and I know thats important to alot of people.

I actually just picked up one of the NES/SNES ones. It's a fraction of the size of the originals and accurate enough that I'm probably just going to store the others. It also has the added benefit of allowing me to use my wireless Playmessiah SNES controllers for NES games. Awesome.

If only they'd made the S-Video work with NES games, it would be perfect, IMO.

I meant with respective systems: NES with Yobo FC (NES only) and SNES with FC Twin (SNES controllers only). However, there is an adapter in the works for the Retro Duo to let you use NES controllers, specifically for games like Duck Hunt or Gyromite.

trust me, NES is no where near capable of utilizing S-Video quality, its barely enough for A/V.

It's more a convenience thing for me, really. It would be really nice if I could just use one cable to connect it instead of switching back and forth.

oh, you're supposed to use one or the other? I have S-Video and the yellow cable plugged in on my PS2 and I find it has the best picture quality that way. Hell, the graphics on SNES aren't THAT great, I'd just "suffer" a little bit and deal with lack of S-Video if it meant switching the cables every time.

And NES can benefit from S-Video. Dot crawl anyone? There's an RGB mod for NES.

Never The Same Color

I've been interested in getting a NES, but all the old ones seem to be broken and the model two lacks A/V output. I might get this too. My only issue is the inflated NES game prices I see in places like eBay; why the hell are games like Mario 3 15+ dollars? That's likely one of the most mass produced games to ever exist - it's worth a few dollars at most. I guess I'm better off checking local stores or better internet retailers.

Also, not entirely related, but does anyone know where to get a good A/V switching device with S-video too? My older TV has one input and I can't stand switching stuff all the time(the s-video issue with this just makes it worse). Any suggestion of an affordable unit that doesn't require power would be nice.

Super Mario Bros 3 is a classic and considerd by many to be the best Mario game ever, kinda how everyone feels about Sonic 3 and Knuckles. So of course the price is gonna be high. Besides, I don't think 15 bucks is that bad, considering brand new games are 50.

I know what you mean and I'd still buy it(I foolishly "lent" it to someone), but it's still over priced considering how old it is and how many units of it were made. Sonic 3 and Knuckles is only more exptensive since it's two carts.

Prices on Nes and Snes have gotten out of hand. I still find Smb2,3, world, Zelda 1-3 at thrift stores all the time. I have about 3 of each at this point and according to ebay and used games stores I must have a small fortune on my hands. What gets me is the Local stores here have these games overpriced and they sit on their shelves for months and no buys them. I really don't know where they get off asking that much. Even more aggravating is that they put sticker price tags on the boxed games thus ruining the box and still want some ungodly amount.

Oh I HATE that when they put stickers on the labels on cartrige games. I mean, how freakin' huge is an NES cart? Why do they have to put a sticker ON THE ONE PLACE WHERE THE STICKER COULD DAMAGE IT!

They do that too but they also put stickers on the original cardboard boxes. It drives me nuts. One day I will get the nerve up to ask them why. What really makes laugh are the high prices. They had a copy of Alundra 2 for like $40. Alundra 2 sucks ass. They also had Shinning Tears for the same price. Sure it looks nice but it is by no means rare or all that good, the load time made want to drink. The kicker is I have walked out with games like Cannon Spike for $10. Fools

you think $15 for Mario 3 is bad, try $70 or sometimes even $80+ for a mint Black label copy of Final Fantasy VII. If the wikipedia list is correct, FF7 is the second best selling Playstation one game, behind gran turismo. You know how much Gran Turismo sells for? ~$6 complete shipped, if anyone bids on it. I was given a CIB Sega CD RAM cart which I traded for a copy of FFVII, so considering I don't have a Sega CD and any games I would buy don't require a RAM cart, I think I did pretty well, but I just can't believe a game that sold for $20 NEW for YEARS now goes for more than a PS3 game. Its madness.

I think the problem stems from "perceived value," I find once a game starts going for a certain amount, everyone thinks it is worth that, so buy it nows change to reflect the new price and people start bid sniping any low finishing auctions. I can't tell you how many times I had a winning bid of $40 or less on FFVII only to have it be bought for $60 in the last 30 seconds. Next, everyone starts buying it in stores and flea markets because they know its worth alot, so you can't get your hands on it for less than the eBay minimum. And the biggest gripe from me is that FFVII isn't even the best game in the series. Sure, its OK, but I find FFVI, VIII, Chrono Trigger, and Chrono Cross are all superior games, but then again an SNES cartridge of Chrono Trigger also sells in the $70 range, especially complete, while FFVIII and Chrono Cross still have lots of sealed copies to keep the price in the low teens. FFVII is an OK game but the fanboy bullshit needs to stop and people need to realize there are plenty of copies to go around and need to stop paying small fortunes for it.

Final Fantasy 7 has like 8 copies here in the bargin bin at EB GAmes marked at about 5 dollars. SEGA CD Ram carts go for over a hundred... Plus you can't just copy them.

I can't really understand the mentality behind paying a huge amount of money for a common, cheap good just because it has a black label.

I remember when Sega CD ram carts were in the bargain bin at Toys'r'us.

I remember when they actualy HAD bargain bins. None of this having to ask a Wallmart employer just to unlock the door, check the game out, and then find out you don't want the game after all.

Why do they do this with games and not DVDs?

Not for NES games. If you try to play a NES game when connected by S-Video, you get a gray screen.

that second picture looks like an NES game running on a clone. For some reason the original NES A/V picture wasn't as sharp as the clones from Yobo. Both the regular FC and FC Twin have a really nice picture with just standard A/V composite cables.
