1. Make the processor at least as fast as the Genesis
2. Less reverb on the sound, also make it less muffled (not sure what would be required technically to do this)
3. Full scaling+rotation
4. Make the carts smaller (its mostly air inside)
5. Add two more face buttons (this would help a lot in fighting games)
6. Component video supported
EDIT: Thats only six things, but I can't think of what else to do. Shouldn't we also be limited to using year 1990 technology?
The Neo-Geo was 1990 year technology.
Well, then I'd just make it like the Neo Geo with first-party Nintendo games.
Of course that would've made it ridiculously expensive at the time.
Add to my list a Power/Reset button on the controllers. I don't know why it took video game hardware companies seven generations to include this.
Sony PlayStation had soft reset in some games.
And that's exactly why it suck. If it was just a synthesizer plugged into the 65816, you can change a note by just loading a value into a register. With a processor, you have to send it all the opcodes it takes to do the functions it does.Quote:

- I agree with pretty much all that has been said before, indeed a change in the sucky game library and its fun for four year olds barney and friends style games would be great.
- Plus a better sound chip that doesn't have these cutsie childrens cartoon compositions and this "we can pull of orchestra music" delusion about it.
- No more this is 3d rubbish aka mode 7 (an attempt at 3d that is more like 1d, a piece of horrendously lacking in detail paper).
- Maybe if we could turn back time an alleviation of stringent monopolisation on nintendos part that stopped many a great franchise from being put on our godly megadrive.
- Perhaps a processor that meant shooters weren't painfully slow.
- Perhaps a library of sports games that rivaled the megadrive.
- Maybe games of the golden axe and streets of rage mold that don't play like absolute pants.
- I would also change their ridiculous mess up to have only 2 final fantasy titles on their machine that have english translations, a travesty.
- A non yellowing console, and proper controllers would also be advantageous.
- The ommission of a legion of we sold more consoles than you fans would be awesome.
- And finally I'd change the costs of the console to ridiculously high so it would have bankrupted nintendo and we wouldn't have to see endless wii and ds adds with sean wright phillips and nicole kidman

Why would you want the main processor to change a note? Instead of a dedicated processor that can decode the music block/sheet/pattern and updating the DSP regs, and requires 0 resource from the main processor? That makes no sense. A dedicated processor means it has 100% cpu resource allocated for large array of timing conditions for more advanced effects for building samples, where as the main CPU of almost any system does not.Quote:

Yes. The SPC unit is fully programmable cpu and you could feed it chunks of the music patterns a time or raw data as reg updates, every so many frames, but really there's no need to.Quote:

Maybe the soundchip isn't so bad if you know how to use it correctly(programming wise); but if the programmer is really stupid, it would be much much easier to mess up on the Super Nintendo than it would on the Sega Genesis. One thing console makers have to take in mind is that not all programmers are geniuses, and they should optimize their systems to make it not too easy to screw up for the less knowledgeable. Sega beaten Nintendo when it came to that.
1- (like everyone else has said) Faster processor
2- no more purple on grey color scheme
3- less games with Mode 7 (it's cool and all, but just taken way out of hand)
4- more games for ages 7 and up
5- backwards compatible with NES (without modification)
6- no region locks
7- Should've went on with the "nintendo playstation" cd add-on idea.
8- better plastics that aren't so easily smoke damaged
9- (and this goes unrealistically for all based cart systems) some sort of self cleaning contacts mechanism.
10- a NORMAL video out port. We all know you stand to make a few bucks by changing the shape so we have to buy name brand but come on.

get rid of the shitty ass controllers. Sega controllers=best controllers ever made. SNES doesn't have shit on the 6 button genesis controller.
64KB of osund RAM is still little too limiting... it would be all filled if I'd use the samples I use in my MD sound engine. There would be no room for other stuff, unless I severly cut down quality... only if ROM area would be visible for that IMO poor thing. 8KB in MD is no limitation... well, only when MCD is involved. I love reverb, I wish MD had it.
